How does this even work?

I love that you can categorize your documents and give access to a team that works all over the world!

I keep coming back to Basecamp

2018-10-29

I've tried every project management & teamwork app under the sun, and I keep coming back to Basecamp. The tiered communication channels - docs, messages, campfire, pings - help to surface urgent messages while keeping everything else organized. The "work can wait" philosophy helps to keep notifications and activity from becoming overwhelming.

Pros

Basecamp promotes a tiered system of communication channels - docs are the least urgent, followed by messages, comments, campfire, and pings for the most urgent. Unlike Slack, where every message, no matter how mundane, is received with the same sense of urgency, Basecamp allows my team to get into focus mode and prevents unnecessary interruptions.

Cons

There are very few options for organizing documents, and the Google Docs integration is little more than a link out to the Google Doc.

Basecamp Review

2019-02-22

I've pushed our team to move away from it, opting to work with Google docs , Workfront and other collaborative systems that are easier to navigate.

Pros

Basecamp is good for external use and working with multiple teams. Uploading content is very easy to do, which is great for collaboration.

Cons

The functionality and navigating of basecamp was a struggle to learn. It isn't the best to use within a single team.

I have used basecamp on and off for years.

2018-04-17

project management tool

Pros

I like that it's an easy platform that can serve as a tool both internally and externally with clients.

Cons

I appreciate integration with other platforms and documents (google docs for example) but wish it supported editing within the basecamp site.

I used Basecamp on a team project and it streamlined communication and project management.

2018-05-09

Pros

I appreciated the "hub" that Basecamp provides. Allowing one space for communication, document sharing, and scheduling helped keep the team on track with projects. The best feature by far on Basecamp is the customer service. They are prompt with answering emails and with troubleshooting.

Cons

Sharing documents on Basecamp isn't as intuitive as Google Docs and some team members would revert to using Google Docs over Basecamp.

Collaboration tool, not great at project management

2019-02-13

Not worth the cost though- Google docs and sites could be used for free.

Pros

Basecamp has good collaboration features and ability to spin up new team sites quickly. It can be useful for link groups together on calendars and grouping documents/files together.

Cons

Terrible at task management and Gantt charts. I find it difficulty to task manage, assign, and get a holistic picture of projects.

It's been great to use for church organizations.

2018-05-30

Pros

That it is easy to read announcements and schedule changes. I like that I can be in touch with the people in charge of scheduling in my church rather than find something out via a church bulletin.

Cons

It feels a lot like a google doc when I use it, and I receive the notifications through email.

Basecamp has been extremely helpful for our team to keep everything in one place and communicate.

2017-07-11

Pros

I LOVE that it helps us compile everything in one place. We are able to keep a history of all our content in one place and be able to reference it for future use.

Cons

You can add google docs to the system but it does not automatically share with everyone in that project.

Our research team was never better coordinated

2018-03-19

Pros

Its use is very intuitive, fast to handle. It helped me a lot to carry several conversations and to organize the flow of information

Cons

And I would like to be possible for future versions, that the handling of documents was more similar to Google Docs.

Good for large teams trying to stay on the same page and working remotely

2018-08-16

We used this product for two years but eventually switched to Google Docs which was included with our email suite and did not cost any extra amount.

Pros

I loved that you can set tasks and mark off the list, share content and store documents. Great way to communicate with teams that work remotely.

Cons

There are cheaper options like Google docs that can accomplish much of the same things.

2019-02-17

Pros

For teams that want to use only one tool, Basecamp provides comprehensive features for collaboration and updates.

Cons

This is a great programming and marketing software/service for many types of organizations.

2018-01-10

The ease of having all items for one project and the communication about that project in one unison area.

Pros

The convenience of creating projects and sharing it with a group of people to work together in unison communication.

Cons

I would love to see a feature to download all items as regular Word Documents of Google Docs in order to improve organizational succession and transitioning of people's roles.

Has made project management and timelines better for our office, and keeps people accountable.

2018-06-20

Streamlines project conversations. Keeps us on task for projects. Keeps communication clear when doing multiple projects.

Pros

Share to-do's with task assignments and deadlines has kept people accountable to their part of the project. Our supervisor was historically the worst at getting tasks done related to the projects. Now, we can objectively refer to Basecamp and it makes confrontation of missed deadlines easier. We really do stay on tasks now as an office. Even when our dreamers are dreaming! The collaborative work environment is great. Like Campfires. Easy to use and get started. Simple format. Basecamp is always adding new ideas without making it more complicated. You can add people outside of the organization for projects that use contractors.

Cons

It allows you to connect Google Docs to a project and also has an in-house document tool.

Cloud storage for company

2019-02-21

The first tool that I used to start working with American clients. When a huge array of information hits you, Basecamp copes brilliantly with database content and is structured, so it didn’t work on it. Did not carry anything, just took the desired system. True without a Gantt chart, which deprives the system of "vitality." For these tasks, I'm using Trello, and for more global - Vrik. Conclusion. Basecamp is a convenient strategic "projectile" that is used in a tank, uses a charging mechanism (Wrike), and with the help of Trello - exactly on target.

Pros

Perfect integration with Google Docs, convenient availability calendar events, the possibility of forming the design of the project, really huge capacitive tool for work, very easy and intuitive.

Cons

Message board is not comfortable, hight price for small business, lack of russification and Gantt

There are shortcomings, but overall, a good project

2018-01-31

Pros

Basecamp allows you to clearly form the structure of each working project, it has a built-in calendar of events, and also perfectly implemented compatibility with Google Docs.

Cons

If you are a small business owner, the price may seem overestimated. In addition, the internal structure of the project is rather confusing.

Staying on top of things is the main priority here

2018-02-17

Pros

It is almost like Google Docs (to me at least) when it come to collaborative tool.

Cons

Decent Team Management Solution

2019-02-04

Pros

I like that you are able to add Google Suite (i.e. Google Docs or Google Sheets) to the platform and not just Microsoft Suite items for real time collaboration.

Cons

The biggest con is really how the user is using Basecamp. With multiple folders and sub-folders, things get lost easily and takes longer to find items that are needed.

Easy to organice information

2019-02-25

Pros

The bad thing is that despite Google Docs is the worst alternative, it is free.

Cons

Just the price. I think Basecamp is very good software, but I am not sure if it can be recommended for a team of two people. Also, I have to say we are a startup.

We used Basecamp to track our employee hours across multiple projects.

2017-12-04

Pros

It was extremely easy to set up, add users, add projects and then track hours per unique project. We kept track of multiple freelance and staff workers across multiple productions with ease. And the communication threads for group discussions and sharing files was invaluable.

Cons

I used this product a few years ago, and at that time I would have liked to see better integration with Google docs/drive.

Simple, easy, but lacks features

2019-04-03

I used the "Classic" version when the new version came up. And it was not an update. Features were dropped off, like time tracking... It was just another product - it did nit make sense. It was long time ago, but the experience was not good.

Pros

I like that it is very simple. You can see the attention to details.

Cons

I could use Google Docs to manage my projects without all those features...

Basecamp - really takes your project to the next level

2018-11-28

We love the Message Boards and the ability to connect to Google docs & sheets.

Pros

I love that Basecamp is constantly improving their software. Every time I log in, there is a new or improved feature.

Cons

Sometimes it can feel as though you have to click through a lot to get to where you need, but it really does depend on the complexity of your setup. The learning curve is a bit steep for non-technical users. The notifications via email can also feel excessive.

The benefits of getting a job done right.

Pros

The ability to modify entries in real time. It allows you to create entries quickly and to make changes fast.

Cons

The one thing that I'd love is if Basecamp could be expanded to almost have its own Google Docs, or Google Sheets aspect of it wherein you can modify docs native to the program.

Most versatile and reliable way of document sharing

2018-04-26

Pros

Not only are the compatible with transferring data from excel, word, or pdf files, they also integrate with many other software programs and project management apps, such as Basecamp. Another benefit is that you don't have to have a gmail account to be invited to access GoogleDocs.

Cons

The one downside I've found to GoogleDocs is that the sharing settings can get little confusing. While it's very easy to invite people to view and/or edit the document you are working on, I've often found that people forget to enable editing privileges when sharing the document, since the default is to send a view-only link.
