Project Management for Everyone

2019-02-08

At my last two companies this software has been the basis of everything we did. It's the tool that you open first thing in the morning and put away last thing in the evening.

Pros

What makes this software most appealing is that literally anyone can understand it and use it, unlike other project management tools which can be very engineer-centric. It also handle every single part of a project, from To Do items, to scheduling meetings, to handling email from partners.

Cons

Lack of Agile functions like KanBan boards, Sprint planning etc.

easy to use, inexpensive and friendly software

allows me to keep track of tasks and assignments. It just makes working together with my team so much easier

Pros

I like because you can access from any device, this is beneficial at a certain point because it facilitates the development of projects anywhere in the world , have too a low learning curve to get started and work in Basecamp. With an intuitive user interface and reasonable cost, Basecamp is a good one.

Cons

is not so good in bigger projects because doesn't have great roadmapping and sprint planning features.

Great tool for project and time tracking

2018-06-04

always know what my team is up to with any given project and any given time.

Pros

Very useful tool to use with teams to track projects and the sprints involved with them.

Cons

From a get up and running standpoint it does help if you've had some experience with project tracking and time tracking software. Can be a little overwhelming to jump right in and try to set this up on your own.

Working on projects across teams never been easier? Well, that depends.

2016-11-08

I didn't really have an impressive experience with Basecamp. Don't get me wrong the tool is powerful for project collaboration/management but I felt that in our team it just never really grew wings. We are a close group that loves open communication and collaboration. We talk openly about projects in face-to-face meetings and in Slack, so Basecamp never really felt a natural fit for us. It added distance between us as we felt forced to communicate project ideas inside of Basecamp rather than keep a direct line of communication. And for documentation and management we exclusively use JIRA. So documenting more in Basecamp was redundant for the most part. Although, I have used Basecamp in the past for client work, and it made much more sense then, and was much more useful.

Pros

It's lean, the interface and experience are not bloated and confusing. With Basecamp, what you see is what you get, and I like that. Teams can easily collaborate and share project information, docs, mockups all while keeping everyone else, and management informed as to what's planned and what's going on with the status of a project. Automatic Check-ins are really useful for keeping teammates regularly involved in communication with the rest of the team that is involved.

Cons

As an agile team that works in sprints, Basecamp didn't make my workflow easier in anyway or help my productivity, and it hindered my communication and collaboration with my teammates.

Recommendations to others considering Basecamp

My opinion is that Basecamp is not the best tool there out for an agile team that works based in sprints. It can definitely work for an agile team, but it didn't cut it for our team. We plan and document in JIRA exclusively. While project communication happens face-to-face or in Slack.

Highly scalable pricing

2019-03-26

Great for what it is

Pros

The pricing structure is a great deal for a growing startup looking for a way to maintain a documentation system and a product management workflow all in one place without going broke. Flat rate pricing FTW! Also has a nice clean UI and a generally good user experience.

Cons

More of a basic to-do list workflow without a fully featured agile/sprint interface.

Great tool for a medium sized project

2018-03-20

I don't see it working as well for Software project management as a tool like JIRA because it lacks granular time tracking and doesn't have great roadmapping/ sprint planning features.

Pros

Basecamp is very easy to setup and employees had no problem learning the ins and outs of the system. Their card-based project system is a great way to track a project across multiple teams. It's a more visual version of a "ticket" in other project management software.

Cons

The calendar and roadmapping features are pretty weak and don't communicate the overall project timeline very well. There is also a lack of more granular time and task tracking which is why I wouldn't recommend this software for a very complex project.

Simple list-making tool

2018-02-26

Pros

As an agile marketing team we work in two week sprints. Basecamp makes it very easy to check things off the list and add them whenever necessary.

Cons

It doesn't have some of the features of other project management tools, and the interface isn't as pretty as other tools. Very basic.

I would like to share few things about Basecamp

2018-12-14

It is a must have product for a team that works collaboratively to reach a goal.

Pros

It help me and my team to keep our daily activities planned so that we all can be on the same page after every sprint deployment.

Cons

1. I personally believe that there is really some scope of improving the USer experience by limiting the navigation and limiting the number of emails

Basecamp is a great tool for collaborative projects.

2018-07-04

Pros

When discussing action items, you can create and assign tasks to other team members to check off when completed, ping team members separately in private conversations, or continue large item discussions in threads.

Cons

Between notifications, pings, weekly sprints, assignments, activities and everything in between, it can get confusing to keep track of everything going on.

Basecamp

2019-02-14

Pros

Basecamp does what it is intended to do, Project Management. It is great for collaboration, storing files, as well as assigning tasks and projects. When you are in need of keeping track of various projects and prioritizing them, Basecamp is the way to go.

Cons

When in a development sprint, I feel that Basecamp is slightly more difficult when it comes to having a complete overview of assigned tasks as well as how long each task will take and the difficulty of them.

Lots of powerful features, too much navigation.

2018-08-31

The UX/UI is good, lots of powerful features, but Basecamp has too many "areas". I spent more time navigating between screens and less time managing my team's work. In the end, we had to try other solutions - Trello being the simplest, and pure Project Management / Gantt tools the most full-featured.

Pros

Creating multiple lists of to-dos under different projects cascades up to an individual user - all my to-dos can be seen in one place, even though they're connected to different things.

Cons

Secondly, I felt like I could see all my personal to-dos easily, but I couldn't take stock of all the things my team needed to do in a given week / month / sprint / release.
