Great if you need flexibility and custom workflows

2019-02-19

because I put the time and chill Burnet, I really like jira. It can do everything I needed to do. Sometimes it's a bit frustrating because settings are not straight forward.

Pros

Jira makes it easy to set up a very complex and specific work clothes for different situations and to apply those were close to many different projects, jira also makes it easy to set up a dashboard that can span tasks from multiple projects.

Cons

Jira has a steep learning curve compared to a competitor like Asana

Robust Sodtware for Agile Teams

2018-12-15

This is best option for IT company for multiple type of operations: Help desk, Agile software (scrum, kanban) development, project management with waterfall methodology, time sheet and project budgeting. etc.

Pros

- We keep multiple operations (support, SW development, project management) in one place - very robust, stable, enterprise grade software - lot of plug ins that extend the functionality (service desk for SLA, tempo for time sheets, big picture for waterfall project management.

Cons

- a bit complex in some cases comparing to Asana, Trello

All the configuration you need for a workflow

2019-02-01

Pros

JIRA lets you set up any possible workflow you can think of - very powerful structure and workflow support (e.g. tags, assigning tasks, etc)

Cons

Exactly what makes it so powerful also means that managing tasks and bugs just isn't as slick and easy as Trello or Asana.

Better alternatives exist

2018-09-10

Pros

- Probably the cheapest in the market - Responsive customer support - Pluggable system. Can extend functionality by installing various plugins. For e.g., you could get a Kanban board by installing the GreenHopper plugin - Very flexible administrative options that enable you to setup the project in any way you want. You can setup weekly sprints, milestones, projects etc

Cons

- Can get slow over time, especially when many plugins have been installed - Feels archaic, especially when compared to other competing systems such as Trello and Asana

Best for Organising Projects

2019-01-20

Pros

I like Jira because it covers almost all bases i have been trying to compare it with other programs like Asana but i think Jira is better.

It's what everyone uses because there aren't a lot of great alternatives

2018-11-04

Ability to assign projects cross-functionally and have transparent breakdowns by who is accomplishing what task, where the bottlenecks lie, and how work is distributed.

Pros

Can be used by other less "technical" departments also - really agnostic unlike platforms like SmartSheet or Asana.

Cons

It's like of just like a Wiki. It's all about how well-organized the team or department is... something I'd think a a bunch Google Sheets checklists organized in Google Drive might not be all that different.

Good but better products out there

2018-07-02

Help t organized a product backlog and current sprint objectives.

Pros

I like that it is geared towards agile development. It helps you to be able to know how to do agile development because it isn't lenient on how to use it.

Cons

Other tools such as asana or trello you are able to do whatever you want.

made for big orgs w many dependencies

2018-10-18

If you have a large org with many dependencies, this is probably your best bet. if you're a smaller team, just go with something like trello or asana.

Pros

it has a boooaaatload of features and it's extremely configurable. you can really customize it to meet the needs of any team.

Cons

on the other hand, it has a billion flows that aren't all necessarily intuitive. it's also easy to overengineer your dashboards and end up with ticketing systems that are more complex than necessary.

Designer who was forced to use Jira

2018-05-04

Pros

As a designer I appreciate the new design interface but going from Asana to BusyBot to Jira.

Cons

Almost all of it. It's really hard to train people and because it's a pain in the butt no one ends up using it. Also it really helps that the person who sets it up knows what they're doing or else all our sprints are messed up.

Powerful but steep learning curve

2018-12-20

Pros

Very customisable with search functions that work well for developers with code-like search operators. Dashboards are a great feature and fairly easy to generate.

Cons

Wasn’t intuitive coming from Asana. Seemed to be more code driven before I found easier search settings (which do exist).

Jira Cloud has become really really slow

2018-01-19

Pros

Great tool for large agile software development projects with good reports and customizations avaiable.

Cons

Good ticketing system for developers - anyone else like us marketing guys might be overkill

2018-06-14

Good software, lots of options and something developers can use. Might be too much for anyone other than a software developer to use - like a marketing team or someone else not technical.

Pros

Good robust system with a lot of options and control, easy to use for Sprints and Agile frameworks and for software developers.

Cons

In marketing, we use the Kanban board but it's overkill - something simpler like Trello or Asana might do better for us.

It does it's job, and there is no other better alternatives

2018-05-10

Easy reporting of issues, management of releases.

Pros

UI is confusing at first, but when you get used to it, it's not too bad compare to Asana, which has a really busy interface.

Cons

Nothing to complain really, everything we need in the team it has it. Although people sometimes complain about it's hard to use, but don't really have a solid reason.

Depends on the type of project you have, but JIRA works.

2018-09-22

Pros

JIRA seems to be a highly functioning project management software for those attached to more logistics, numerical, software based projects. The Kanban structure is worthwhile sometimes.

Cons

I felt as though, as a person trying to use the software for less numerical more to-do list based items, it wasn't the ideal structure and ultimately ended up going to Asana for it's multiple flexible viewing panels.

Feature-Rich & Ultra Customizable. User-Friendliness Lagging Though.

2018-08-10

Pivotal, Asana, Trello, Wrike and even Excel, I still consider Jira the most capable for tracking projects, requirements, bugs as well as support requests.

Pros

Jira can handle any scenario you could imagine throwing at it! The ultimate customizability and endless pathways to perform an exact task are Jira’s strengths. The built-in reporting and analytics capabilities are truly impressive. Integrability easily beats its competitors.

Cons

The UI is overly complicated. Even experienced admins end up spending hours looking up Atlassian support forum, just to perform the most fundamental chores. Try changing permission, for instance! Now imagine how confused end-users would get! The entire platform seems very much programmer-designed. Atlassian, please invest in a UX team.

Almost great

2018-03-21

Pros

It's a comprehensive tool that manages to provide solutions for a variety of different teams, from project management teams to marketing, development and beyond. The features are, overall, very powerful and allow for communication and planning to be synced between teams.

Cons

I struggle to get the features that we, as a marketing team need and, as a result, have had to stick to using Asana. Atlassian has been buying/ creating a variety of other very useful tools so I'd like to see these more in-sync with each other.

The slowest and hardest-to-use tool (which you can't get rid of)

2018-11-19

It's the opposite to Asana, for example, which is cool and easy-to-use.

Pros

It's super complete, full of features that sometimes you may need. You can do almost anything with it, and it solves a lot of companies achieve their goals.

Cons

The User Experience is non-existent at all. My God, even with the new redesign it's awful. It's a tool created for devs with just devs in mind, but MS-DOS was more user experience oriented than Jira is. Highlights: - It makes no sense that in 2018 it still opens links in the same tab. - To do something super easy you may need to do up to 5-10 clicks, when it could be easily done in 1-2 maximum.

Functional for specific purpose but confusing

2019-01-25

Atlassian also makes Asana which is essentially the same tool but geared towards Product/Design.

Pros

Once you get passed the learning curve, it's fairly simple. Ability to keep in sync with a Dev team is probably the best overall Pro. Devs seem to be able to understand the features and flows here more than anyone. Integrations with other software make it a consideration. Ability to track in kanban style.

Cons

It's not Aesthetically pleasing at all. There are a lot of features and capabilities that are in-line or buried that aren't evident. There is a pretty big learning curve with Jira and it's purpose. There are SO many capabilities, integrations and functions that are constantly being changed or updated that by the time you catch up to the curve, something changes and you're behind again. Support team also is not super clear on communication.

Great for project management but not so great for agile software development

2018-02-07

Pros

It's really easy to use as compared to Jira Software and has powerful features for project management with infinite level of sub-tasks

Cons

It doesn't have good features or customisations for agile software development. With the introduction of Kanban style boards and adding a custom field "estimate", using unito.io integration to sync it with GitHub, we tried to use it for our agile software development routines. However, it lacked the reports like burn-down charts and good backlog management with Epics and version etc.
