Not my favorite project management software

2019-01-09

I would recommend Trello way before recommending Mavenlink.

Pros

For the record, I'm writing from the perspective of a copywriter, rather than a project manager. Mavenlink acted as a hub for all of our projects. All of our assignments, assets, and time management lived there. Every time I asked my project manager for an asset, she would always tell me it's "somewhere" in Mavenlink. I knew our documents were safe with Mavenlink, but finding them could be a bit tricky.

Cons

I found this software to be more confusing as a non-project manager. The user experience was less-than-great and I often wasted time looking for documents that were hidden somewhere deep in the Mavenlink database. The design of the software is also not very appealing to me. It feels very stale.

Frustrating

2018-09-06

I wind up creating my own task list on paper, in Trello, or in OneNote so I can stay out of the software as much as possible.

Pros

It does have decent formatting options within task descriptions and comments

Cons

Completely unintuitive. Lacking basic features like sorting tasks, cloning/copying tasks. Sometimes the limit on nesting tasks becomes a problem.

Not my favorite project management software

2019-03-26

I would recommend using Trello and AirTable well before Mavenlink if you want a better experience for your team.

Pros

Mavenlink works as project management software. You can create tasks, track time, and attach essential info. But it feels bare-bones and doesn't have as friendly of an interface as other project management software.

Cons

I've used Mavenlink, Trello, and AirTable, and Mavenlink is easily my least favorite.

Well Considered with Lots of Potential

2017-01-26

The interface is clean and open and the tools you have access to are head and shoulders above "free" offerings like Asana and Trello.

Pros

Nested task view is awesome, dependencies and Gantt charts are great and the multitude of ways you can parse the data is peerless.

Cons

Their "app" is a web app, with no offline mode. Really disappointed about this one, since we're moving from Asana, who's app is WONDERFUL.

Recommendations to others considering Mavenlink

If you need task dependencies, project start dates, or any sort of budgeting incorporated into your task management, look no further. Otherwise, you may want to dig into the details to see if Mavenlink is right for you.

A Visual Way to Track Projects

2018-06-12

It helped our team break down the steps needed to complete various projects in a easy to understand format.

Pros

This is a simple way to get your team to collaborate on a project. The cards are intuitive and it's easy to get your team to understand how to use it. I appreciated the Slack and Google Drive integrations.

Cons

I prefer Mavenlink and Basecamp.
