Pros

It is one of the best if not the best development environment for almost every type of programming language. Especially if you want to program in any of Microsoft's proprietary programming languages.
I have had very good programming experience with this solution. The view and layout is nice and comfortable for when you have a lot to work with.
I love all of the out of the box capabilities, but also love how quickly you can add in great tools from others (like custom controls).

Pros

A very easy to use IdE with a free access makes it the best choice for c/c++ programmers and provide great features that makes the user experience very smooth.
It has a super clean UI and easy to use interface. The IDE also comes with a lot of other features like debugger, editor themes, and keymap configurations.
As a student pursuing a degree in CS at the college level, I found Code::Blocks to be a useful and user-friendly IDE for my programming projects. It had a good interface and was easy to navigate.

Cons

Before it didn't support python, and I write code in python, and I used to hate VS for this, but now with the new version of V2017 and VS2019. This problem is catered for.
Often the launch of the application is very slow, and due to bad logs, it can be difficult for me to find the problem that has arisen.
Beginners will definitely be intimidated by how hard learning everything is.

Cons

The style has the same feel as software such as Notepad++ or Delphi 2010. Code suggestion/ completion is really bad, as well as error dialogs.
It has awful and outdated UI, the UX is terrible.
This software has a little slow startup and as it is an ide it has many features which can be confusing.

Great for creating and modifying source code in many programming languages.

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

The ease of use and overall format make any project you are working on easier. The formatting tools and identifiers allow easy discovery of opening and closing tags. Takes away the worry of nesting code blocks within other code blocks.

Cons

Even with researching, I can never get the 'Beautify" feature to work. So if pasting an unwrapped text code block, the feature should organize and format the pasted code, but I have yet to see it work.

Visual Studio IDE

Overall this is great IDE for your development activities. code completion, intellisense, code assistance, code hinting, TFS integration all are great features

Pros

I use this IDE for my .NET development activities. It is fast and has user friendly display. Intellisense lets you help write the code where you are not sure.

Cons

Frequent crashes are bit of annoying when you are in the middle of something. It surely needs to be fixed

Visual Studio as an IDE

overall experience is good and it lets to do quality coding

Pros

Debugging is super easy and it comes with lot of color themes and templates to be selected with and this makes the user easier to differentiate code blocks, syntax errors comments likewise. And it allows the easy version controlling with the built in terminal and also the add-ons make it easier always to customize the experience

Cons

It takes a lot of time to load the project when you open the IDE. And the IDE is very expensive. Sometimes it takes a lot of CPU

Best IDE experience.

Reviewed 6 years ago

Easy to use code editing. Bootstrapping of code, integration with cloud repositories.

Pros

Visual Studio is heavy, but it has progressed immensely over the years and that is one thing that I love about it. It became lighter, it supports multiple languages and it no longer feels as a just microsoft IDE.

Cons

It is still heavy. Dont get me wrong it is a quality software with multiple capabilities, however I would still like to be able to run it on a medium laptop without making the fans go on full speed.

Pros

I like that Visual Studio incorporates most if not all of the relevant development process for devs in all areas.

All shortcuts you need to write code faster

Reviewed 7 years ago

Write code faster.

Pros

Visual Studio is awesome suite for .NET software development and bring all tools needed to a developer write code. But to take more advantage of Visual Studio brings to you, forget your mouse. Visual Studio provides us all shortcuts we need to become more productive, write code faster and do all tasks needed to create great software. I said shortcuts for "all tasks", not only common tasks: open files, navigate in project folders, focus in different windows, many refactoring tools, build, debug, autocomplete, find names, code replacement and much more. If you can, you don't need more the mouse to write .NET code, Visual Studio's shortcuts let you more productive.

Cons

You need to have a good machine or notebook, with a fast CPU and memory RAM available to run Visual Studio in a smooth way without freezes.

Microsoft Visual Studio

a professional compiler for a professional person!

Reviewed 5 years ago

I have used Visual Studio for 5 years now and I can say it is one of the best(if not the best) Softwares on this particular field. I use a lot of programming languages and fortunately, Visual Studio supports almost every other language so I am absolutely satisfied with it. you can do massive projects using Visual Studio, and it will not let you down!

Pros

it is functional, it has many features that will make your programming journey much smoother and more fun. when writing code blocks, Visual Studio will make a distinctive colour for each part of the program, making it much easier to keep track of your progress and your code. it supports a variety of programming languages, such as; C, C + +,Java,JavaScript,Python, and much much more! the workspace provided is comfortable and huge. you have an option to change and manipulate the font and its size so that it fits your preferences.

Cons

Visual Studio provides many features and supports tons of programming languages, which requires a lot of free space to be available on the Disk, however, due to its huge size it sometimes will run slow on your pc and it could be really heavy on your CPU. Other than that it is honestly hard to find any bad aspects of the Software.

Best for coding

Reviewed 4 years ago

Visual studio is great coding tool and helps you to write code effectively by suggesting the auto code fill ups. It have many addons and really good for debugging your code.

Pros

It supports programming on various languages. The features it provides like coding, code debugging are exceptionally good. I dont think any other tool in the market has such powerful debugging capabilities. It also have a pretty good compiler which suggests the very appropriate cause of error in the code. It is best recommeded IDE.

Cons

Installation process is long and take a while to get install. Frequently new updates takes time to install and sometimes create unnecessary dependencies. It is slow sometimes as t is big software and consumes a lot of memory and RAM.

Great Free Tool for Writing Code

Reviewed 7 years ago

Visual Studio Code is the best free coding tool I have tried. It is intuitive and allows for easy debugging of code. Users can easily toggle between lines of code and troubleshoot any errors.

Pros

Debugging and troubleshooting code with Visual Studio Code is great and intuitive. The ability to search, highlight lines of code, and toggle between lines of code makes it very easy to use. With Visual Studio Code being free to download, it is a fantastic value to a developer.

Cons

There really isn't much not to like about Visual Studio Code since it is a free coding tool. The only thing I can think of is that the updates to the application don't seem to be automatic so any update has to be done manually.

Writing simple C# test code.

Pros

Easy to setup and install. Developer friendly IDE having lots of features which makes life easier. Support for writing unit tests. Can develop all types of application using Visual Studio. Feature of showing references of each methods and variables upfront helps in making life easier. This feature is missing in Eclipse IDE.

Cons

Price is on slightly higher side. Ideally, price should reduce with increase in number of subscriptions. Also, during installation it gives n number of option to choose to initiate installation which becomes confusing for a person who wishes to write simple C# code.

Microsoft Visual Studio

A user friendly versatile tool for software programmers

Reviewed 3 years ago

We are AI based solutions provider and often our work is in python. So far all my modules are written with the help of VS code. It allows me to write code in javascript and java aswell. Configuring files and creating, altering jsons are easy. Before switching to VS code I always had problems of finding multiple language support and graceful code formatting within a short time. VS code has solved this problem.

Pros

Installation of third party tools, possibility of live code share session and support for several langauges are the most impactful features in my opinion. The product is also relatively easy to use only if you use it frequently have spent sometime to learn about the features like formatting, searching files, functions and text, resolving dependencies etc. Nevertheless it was easier to integrate the product with our business use case.

Cons

The product is somehow sometimes not easy to go around for example to search for files and to search for specific text inside all files is bit confusing, the interface sort of works the same way. Also when dealing with ASCII doc files or tabular form files, there are always 3rd party extensions that are required. Excel files are difficult to format (zig zag columns) but however they only be viewed in a user friendly way. Specifically for python there are sometimes problems with the kernal, even though the right kernal is selected, yet the code fails to run and restarting vs code with the right kernal helps. The same is true for running jupyter inside VS code.

Code:Blocks - I had better

Reviewed 3 years ago

Overall, I think Code:Blocks is an average product. It may work well for someone who is a beginner and is just starting to work with IDE's - or maybe for someone who is more old school and used to older look and feel. For more advanced features, I would recommend something like Visual Code or Atom.

Pros

The product does the basic job yeah )) You can have color themes on different code syntaxes, compilation is there and the other fundamental things, like a debug/output window.

Cons

Honestly, I miss the plugin ability. Other software, such as Visual Code where there is a massive community library, has the ability to pull in various multiple plugins to enhance working experience. This is something I do not see in Code:Blocks and the devs can consider adding this in the future.

Code::Blocks logo

Code::Blocks

A good free alternative for C++ development.

Reviewed 7 months ago

I have a very fond recollection of my time with Code::Blocks, it made learning C++ development a very accessible process when compared to the smorgasbord of buttons and configurations needed to get a project building in VisualStudio. It does very little to get in your way, just write code and hit compile and it works.

Pros

It's very lightweight and launches in seconds, I can run Code::Blocks even on the most lightweight netbooks and embedded devices where VisualStudio would completely bog down the machine. It is purpose built for C++ development and has good tooling around working with the language where VSCode has to largely rely on plugins to achieve the same thing.

Cons

It's a very barebones IDE, it's good at writing and debugging C++ in trivial projects, and lightweight environments when you have limited processing power, but it's not very competitive with the types of features and tooling that modern enterprise IDEs like Jetbrains CLion and Microsoft VisualStudio now offer.
