Great way to measure project speed.

Reviewed 4 years ago
Pros

Tick simplifies how our projects are tracked and budgeted, providing every employee with an idea of how much time is expended on every project. Resulting in increased productivity on the long run ,as employees are able to compare their speed rate on one project against another. Tick integrates well with Basecamp ,and it is so easy to import our projects from Basecamp into Tick.Likewise , making it very easy to estimate the cost of new projects and compare them with past projects we have done.It has a nice Chrome extension and can be used while on the move ,via mobile.

Cons

It is a whole lot of work trying to manage a project management program on one hand and using Tick on the other hand ,on a single project. Will be a good development ,if Tick can be upgraded into a full blown project management tool.

Easiest time tracking tool

Reviewed 4 years ago

The simple and low-profile integration (app) with our Mac users makes it easy to track time. I would hope a more robust app version would be implemented as an option in the future.

Pros

I love how easy Tick is to use. The interface is streamlined for both the user and administrator. The API is simple, yet has just enough features to make it worth implementing.

Cons

The software is great for freelance base and general time tracking, but not for payroll. Because of this, we use another software for actual payroll.

Where have you been all my career, Tick?

Reviewed 5 years ago

Allows me to track my time quickly and easily. Saves time while making me look like a genius.

Pros

Where do I begin? Tick saves me an immense amount of time *and* it makes me look good doing it. Time sheets used to be druggery. Always playing catch up at the end of the week (or even end of the month!). The project management software I was using was a clunky solution at best. Other time tracking software was too expensive or was part of a larger ecosystem I had to buy into. Tick is an elegant stand-alone...

Cons

If I had to say anything less than glowing about Tick it would be that it's not the easiest to edit past time entries from any of the summary views. The user must find the entry in the task, note the date, and then navigate to the date. That's easy enough if you have Tick multiple browser tabs open but it is *one* thing I'd like to change.

Tick Overall Review

Tick is a great add-on for Basecamp. It provides an easy way to enter time for different projects. We use it in conjunction with Basecamp II. It is super easy to import your projects and add different tasks. i.e. For our projects, we assigned tasks such as Construction QC, Construction Engineering, Indirect Time, Meetings, PTO, Training, etc. Easy user interfaces to select project, select task and...

Pros

Ease of use.

Cons

Vendor response

Hey Frankie, Thank you for reviewing Tick. We've added new phone apps and a Mac App to replace the old Adobe Air application. We also rolled out Basecamp 3 support early this summer so you can track time inside Basecamp 3 if you ever decide to upgrade. Thanks, Alban

Great For Time Tracking Across Several Projects

Convenient, but with Help

Reviewed 6 years ago

For backstory, my team is gauging how long certain tasks take to better forecast where people should be assigned and when to start tasks. I'm used to keeping track of my hours and time spent per task for freelance work and have made a spreadsheet where I can enter the start and end time of a task, get the total HH: work sheetMM spent, and then it convert it to Decimal Hours through formulas. I...

Pros

I like the Recently Used sidebar for easy time logging. I had to re-do three weeks of entries and the Recently Used sidebar was definitely a lifesaver in that situation. It also makes checking into tasks much easier after the first entry. I really like the comments section as well. My team lead showed me the narrative I had constructed around a task because of the comments I had entered.

Cons

Time to Enter (decimal hours) and the Stop Watch feel a little too specific, but I mentioned previously that I'm so used to entering something like "9:00 AM - Start" and "9:47 AM - End" that I made a spreadsheet so I could enter start and end times, get the total HH: MM and have it convert to decimal hours through formulas.

Hard to manage on-the-go

Reviewed 4 years ago

I can understand the benefits of clocking in on the go and managing different times on different projects, but the overall low speed and loading times made what should be a simple process longer and more distracting than easy.

Pros

I used Tick when I was working for a professional dog walking company. The ability to clock in and out from any location was particularly useful. I also liked that I could manage logging the difference between actual walk times versus commute and key change times. The mobile layout was fairly easy to follow and view, and I can imagine it would be easy to use on a laptop.

Cons

The connection to the internet was spotty for all employees across multiple networks, which resulted in a lot of time spent on clocking in. With every minute precious to someone traveling and walking multiple dogs per hour, stopping to make sure your clock in had loaded was frustrating. Compiling times at the end of the week to turn in was also not intuitive, having to click through multiple menu screens.

VP of Sales, Marketing & Strategic Consulting

Reviewed 5 years ago

Very easy to use internally and with contractors. I wish it would enhanced to allow entry of role specific rates for each project and then a report to show gross project profitability each week, month, quarter etc. This would seem to be easy to add and would provide us much benefits.

Pros

Low cost, easy to use time sheet entry and reporting online tool

Cons

Repetitive entries are cumbersome, requiring multiple entries of same information for multiple days. No way to restrict entry to maximum hours setup for a role in a project, or request for overage. No way to restrict daily maximum hours entry.

Great product

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the overall product. It is feature rich, easy to use, and is affordable. Checks all the boxes for what I was looking for. Highly recommend.

Pros

This software is very easy to use. I was able to learn how to use very quickly. It is also very applicable to what I needed it to do. The feature I like best is the Timecard. makes it easy for everyone logging their time.

Cons

This is a pretty solid software. Getting set up with it was a little bit tougher than I thought it was going to be. But once set up, works perfectly.

A painless way to keep track of project time with low learning curve for new users

Reviewed 5 years ago

It's easy for our team to keep track of hours and see when / if we are meeting budget or going over.

Pros

I like the fact that it's easily accessible to new users with uncomplicated, easy to navigate screens. There is a lot of customization features that are very handy as well. We are a television media production company and require a lot of different categories for services and Tick provides us with the flexibility to do what we need.

Cons

I would like to be able to see at a glance what I have entered hours on in the past month and the month before that. I need a quick visual reference to all my hours in separate projects, grouped in one space so I can review quickly.

Still getting used to Tick

Reviewed 6 years ago

So far I've used Tick exclusively through its Chrome extension (which works amazingly). This process is still being adopted by our organization to identify major time constraints in our department. It didn't take very long (a day or two) to get into the habit of using Tick (again through the Chrome extension). I think for what Tick tries to accomplish the current features and functions are complimentary,...

Pros

Ease of usage through the Chrome extension. I usually hate Chrome extensions and they usually tend to be useless, but the extension for Tick works flawlessly, well done.

Excellent value, performance issues with very large datasets.

Reviewed 5 years ago

I've been using Tick for years, and it's been doing its job well. It always records time properly, and it always gives useful reports to the people who need them. The only issue that I have with it is that, now that our project and client database has grown so large over time, Tick can take 5-10 seconds to load each time it refreshes, which can get somewhat frustrating. It's a small price to pay, but worth mentioning.

Pros

Great price, incredibly easy to use

Cons

Feature set somewhat limited compared with some of the competition. Slows down with very large databases.

We needed a simple way to capture timebooking information for our people. Tick is perfect!

Reviewed 5 years ago

A simple ability to capture and report on time booking data in a highly efficient and cost effective way.

Pros

Simple to set up and use, great interface and UX and the ability to run multiple timers on multiple devices is loved by our team. The simple reports give us instant views on our key data and the CSV export allows us to dump data into Excel easily for more detailed analysis if and when we need to. Unlike other resource management tools we tested prior to going with Tick, it does NOT feel like we are using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. The cost of the "unlimited projects/unlimited people" licence means we can deploy Tick across our business without spending a small fortune. All told, a great solution!

Cons

The structure of client/project/task can be limiting and requires careful planning. A way of grouping at sub-project or workpack level with a project would add to the flexibility of Tick. The permissioning structure (effectively either Admin with access to everything everywhere or User with only personal timesheet access) is fine but we have cases where a "team leader" type role would be much better.

How software should be

We needed to start tracking our development teams time on various projects, we have a few dozen projects and ~60 engineers. My first thought was oh know this is going to be a pain, You see for many years I was part of a engineering services company and tracking time was always a pain and never easy. So I have flash back visions of this turning into a horror story. To my surprise I found tick and I was amazed at how well it fit our needs and how easily it was adopted by our engineers. It's so easy to use, it took almost no training time to set up or get the engineers to use. I highly recommend Tick.

Tick Review

Reviewed 3 years ago

My overall experience with the Tick software is that I am a bit underwhelmed with the general operation of it and also the design is very plain. No vibrant colors or unique features that really stand out for me. The look of the software just doesn't strike me as software that I would recommend to colleagues or to friends. It's just a bit too plain and boring.

Pros

What I liked most about using Tick software is just how well it organises my time for me. It literally counts down the amount of minutes it takes me to complete a task or how long I still have left over to finish up on a task that I am working on.

Cons

What I like least about Tick software is that while the first 30 days are free a monthly subscription after the free time trial has ended is a bit of a steep rate considering that Tick really is just a glorified clock ticking down the time just as your wristwatch does. Unfortunately I do not really see a lot of value for money in using Tick unless they can maybe add another feature to the software that could make it worth the almost twenty dollar a month price plan.

Tick Really Saves Time To Focus On More Important Things

Reviewed 4 years ago

Tick allowed us to improve our time management skills to increase profits and run as a more efficient business.

Pros

Tick is a time management software that can be used for any business, regardless of its size. It's cloud based so you can access it anywhere, anytime, from your computer or phone. You can use multiple timers to track your activities throughout the day and even setup auto timers for reccuring projects. Timecards are easy to complete with the option to add notes and you are given budget feedback based on your input in real-time. I could set user permissions to ensure privacy for certain projects and integration with Quickbooks Online allowed me to quickly export hours reports. Subscription cost varies but there is a free 30 day trial available. This software has been very beneficial to me in the past and I'm currently in the process of getting it approved for use at my new job.

Easy-to-use time tracking software offers nothing new and few integrations

Reviewed 3 years ago

Not overly impressed with the UI or functionality.

Pros

The on-boarding info was quite thorough and helpful and requires a shift in thinking from the way other tracking apps proceed. At first I balked at being lectured to but once the different approach set in I recognized its value. The set-up was easy. Time tracked is constantly updated in the Chrome tab. Nice. I don't use Basecamp at the moment but a colleague who does let me look over her shoulder as she integrated Tick. The integration works well.

Cons

Tick is a one-trick pony and there are few integrations. Basecamp is a biggie and an obvious choice but I was hoping I could see how Tick integrated with Clickup which I'm evaluation now. Other time-tracking apps are supported.

Pros

I like that my projects and the time spent on them are archived and I can review time spent on past projects to help me price future projects.
