Qwilr Tutorials - Text, video, images & embedding data

Video Transcript

Speakers in this video: Jimmy (GetApp) and Mark (Qwilr)

Mark: So, you can maybe say you want to have it centered, you could also change the background and say, 'You know what, that's what I want to have for this particular block. It's very easy and simple to do to change styles and to make it feel the way you want it to feel. All of the colors that are used here are set at the admin level so that you can set up brand colors across your account, so that yourself, people, or your team are very easily able to go in there, play around, make it look great, while still following the rules that you set across your company.

So, the video block is also another incredibly easy and simple to use block. When you've edited a video, you can simply add text as you usually would, and when you come down, all you need to do is to drop a link into the video you want to use. Qwilr supports YouTube, Vimeo and Wistia. And all you need to do is drop the link in, and it works straight away.

That's my co-founder ... coming down through there. So, the next block we have is the splash block. So, when you get to add a splash block, you can either add a video background, or an image background. For now, let's add an image background. So, we come down here, we can choose an image from the stock images. Obviously you can upload your own if you want to, but let's just come down here and choose something nice. We've got a meeting with a client coming up, maybe we'll use this one here.

So, straight away you can see it, you can add text here as you normally would, but you can say this isn't quite looking right, maybe you want to change it a little bit. When you click on the background, you are very easily able to edit this splash block. So you can say, "Oh, I'd like to add the video instead of an image, I'd like to replace this image", do you want to have content in here at all, you can turn that off, and you'll see that there's no content in the block. You can turn it back on and say, "Yes, I do want content", maybe you want to have a background for the content, so we can see straight away that we have the text inside a content block. But I'm going to remove that for now and I'm going to say, I don't want to have this half page, I want to have this full page and I think it'll look a little bit better if it's tinted dark.

So, maybe dark blue instead of the black. So now, "It was great meeting you." We can look at this and say, we're happy with that, we're happy with how that looks, and we can change that. Obviously, because Qwilr is designed for the web, and works really well on mobile, this'll automatically resize depending on what size device your client is looking at it. The same is true for PDF.

So for this source block, when you click on this link, you get a range of options. The first thing to say here is that the source block allows you to embed anything from around the web. So, you can have your website embedded here, you can have anything that you want. We provide a few suggestions of things to get people started; but really, your imagination is the only limit here.

So, if you just want to go to the extreme, you can click on an iFrame embed, and so this is - you can just simply drop in a URL into here, and it'll work straight away. We'll go back here and let's do a Google Map. Okay, so to add a map, all you need to do is go to Google Maps, and we'll just come across here, go down to share or embed map, and then you just go to the embed tab and then select all of this and copy that. And you can we've got a nice map of Sydney, where Qwilr is built with love.

So, you drop that in, and then straight away you have the ability to see your embedded iFrame. Now if we go back, we can see this is working live. We can zoom out to see the world, and this is a live bit of the web that lives within your document. So, you can do it with maps, you can do it with surveys, you can do it with spreadsheets, and we have a bunch of financial firms who use Qwilr to show off their models within a Google spreadsheet or another cloud-hosted spreadsheet, and you can do a range of really, really cool things with this.

You can also have graphs and data that are live so that you can have live data being displayed, so you're not just showing a static image of what happened recently. You can have live data that can manipulate and play it around with. So, really just one of the things that makes Qwilr fantastic is that we do embrace the work, and when you are making your document, not just being able to do the regular text, and images, and video and things like that, but you can also do a few other very cool things on the side.
