Easy to configure on a Synology NAS to backup to the Cloud

Reviewed 2 years ago

This was an excellent experience, from signing up to installing -- the whole process took hardly any time.

Pros

I loved the fact that there is a native app available for our Synology DS220+ NAS. This app made installing and backing up our data very simple.

Cons

It's mildly irritating to have to login to iDrive from the Synology dashboard each time I visit the status page.

Attractive Offer But Doesn't Function As Described

Reviewed 17 days ago

Frustrating. I can't recommend this product.

Pros

The price is very reasonable and the fact you can back-up multiple devices at no extra cost is a handy feature.

Cons

I have been trying to back-up my devices with iDrive for over a week now. The back-ups fail every time and completely eat up my broadband connection despite tweaking the 'throttle' feature in the app. Despite being in regular contact with customer service I can not get iDrive to back-up my files to their server.

Vendor response

Hi, thank you for the review. Mind emailing us at publicrelations@idrive.com so we can look into this for you?

Idrive is great

Reviewed 3 months ago

I have been using Idrive for years now on other pc's and I have told all my friends and family to use idrive. It's simple to use, easy to set up and simple to acess all your files. You can also have a cloud drive on your pc with files you access most and they are always backed up, so for me this is all I need, and I never had any issues with Idrive.

Pros

I like that it's easy to use, have a simple way to backup and access my files, I like how easy it is to use. I tried other companies, but after a year or two it was so costly, I could not afford those other places, and they were never this simple. took forever to get my files back

Cons

For me, I have not had any issues with Idrive, I think it's worth the money and simple to use, so for me I have no cons about Idrive.

iDrive Cloud Backup is a game-changer in the realm of data protection.

Reviewed 19 days ago
Pros

Its user-friendly interface and easy setup make it a joy to use. The backup and restore processes are impressive, ensuring that your data is safe without interrupting your workflow. The security measures are top-notch, with 256-bit AES encryption providing peace of mind that your data is secure. The ability to sync files across multiple devices is a standout feature, making it easy to access your files anytime, anywhere. The 24/7 customer support is responsive and helpful, always ready to assist with any issues. Overall, iDrive Cloud Backup is a reliable, efficient, and secure choice for all your data backup needs.

Cons

While the service is excellent, I believe it is too expensive since there is no unlimited data storage.

A backup platform that doesn't quite work as a cloud storage solution.

Reviewed 2 years ago

I've been wanting to back up my image archive for a few years now, after a few scary experiences with FreeNas and TrueNas. I'm just a small photo business with around 30TB of assets and yet the likes of Google and Amazon treat me like I'm Nasa and want to sell me enterprise-level solutions. I don't have time to wade through their incomprehensible marketing and no need for their features, just a little...

Pros

Good initial space allocation that is suited to the needs of content creators. Great price. Simple to use once set up.

Cons

Designed for backup so all its features want to mirror what's on your server / workstation. It doesn't work very flexibly as a stand-alone cloud drive. You can't manage your files once in the cloud with the same flexibility as an OS. The website doesn't state how much the product costs after the introductory offer which I'm sure holds a lot of people back. There is no feature to expand storage on personal accounts beyond the original 10TB offered as of May 2022.

Easy to use cloud backup solution with affordable price

Reviewed a year ago

Finally I don't have to worry about private files in case of HW failures.

Pros

I use IDrive for personal use. I purchased it around BlackFriday with nice promo price for 10TB storage for 1 year.It has the best and the most user friendly Windows client application which allows to setup backup/restore files, to schedule backup tasks, it supports incremental backups, offers definition of folders which will be automatically synced with cloud storage and also to perform complete computer...

Cons

Huge price increase after 1 year promo price period expires. Hopefully, there will be some promotions before expiry which will allow existing users to prolong subscription under better price.I like to fly with my drone and record videos. Beware that there is a huge problem with IDrive related to file size limit. If you need to share files bigger that 2GB, unfortunately IDrive won't be a solution for you unless you prepare your files by splitting them into smaller ones.

Good for back up not good for a quick retrieval

Reviewed 7 months ago

My overall experience is mixed. I believe a iDrive does very good with seamless back up. I believe they manage the portions very well. I believe it’s easy to select what you want to back up. The encryption is very good. The seamless ease-of-use is very good. The technical support is pretty good. Like I said one guy was a little patronizing. However, I believe that was the only problem with customer service. I do think their customer service is very good in their sales were very good. Also the price is out of this world stellar.

Pros

Weather like most about idrive was, it was truly plug-and-play simple to back things up. It was also very easy to manage the user interface and the customer support was top notch.

Cons

iDrive took 72 hours to download a 650 GB file and still after 72 hours it was only 71% complete. I ran a random junk Internet test to verify with a different service and it downloaded 275 GB in three hours on my connection I was on the phone with customer service three separate times and they told me everything should be working correctly and they seemed a little patronizing.

Gets the job done, simple to use.

Reviewed 10 months ago

Excellent value, no issues with upload speed. Allows data to be secured with a key only you have access to for privacy.

Pros

I have been using IDrive for several months now, and it is doing a great job of backing up my primary C drive as well as my two auxiliary drives full of RAW format photos and 4k video footage. It is simple to use and set up, and seems good enough for pro use. It also doesn't put too much of a load on the system unlike some competing products. I'm glad I purchased it, and it's a good value.

Cons

At this time there is nothing I do not like about IDrive.

Backup software is poor compared with other options

Reviewed 6 months ago

I suspect the downsides are a case of 'you get what you pay for', but as long as my data is reliably stored somewhere, it's hard to complain too much about everyday use. If other options are comparable in price upon next renewal, I would almost certainly switch away for the benefit of better backup software, even though it means having to re-upload everything again.

Pros

The price is good, based on an introductory special offer.

Cons

The software - particularly for the initial backup, when a lot of data will be transferred - is poor: - there's no threading available and limited throttling options, and the impact on performance was significant even on a high-spec machine - the 'time left' for backup of a large amount of data always sits at just under 23 hours (it doesn't seem to go over 24h) - there is no feature to prevent the computer from sleeping while backup takes place - there is no auto-resume upon restart, only a message that the backup has failed, and then a wait until the next scheduled backup unless you manually resume

Inexpensive online backup with extra features

Reviewed 2 years ago

Idrive is my sole online backup, it also has a ton of other features that I have found useful. File sharing, phone photo backup and sharing, a dropbox like file synchronization. It seems like every time I check there are more features added.

Pros

The online backup, once you have it uploaded, works very well. It can be slow to upload large amounts of files to start but I use Idrive express (free) which really speeds up priming the pump. Rather than uploading 800 gb in file backups and 1.2tb in image backups, they send a hard drive, you fill it up directly from your devices and then ship it back at no additional cost. Once they receive it they put it online and you can sync your online backup and it will add the files created in the meantime. Much less bandwidth needed, and everything is encrypted in case the drive ends up lost en-route home.

Cons

Image backup takes significantly longer than regular image backup software. not something that would be tolerable as a standalone solution.

Don't be surprised when they drain your account

Reviewed 3 years ago

I finally got rid of all the data and schedules even though I have 11 months of time left I will not backup or connect in any way to these scammers again

Pros

Retrieving files were quite easy. When it worked it worked well

Cons

The usage meter lies until they somehow get you far over your max then they will not let you delete files. Then there rip a few hundred out of your bank account then sup[port tells you if you upgrade to a larger account (more money) he will see to it your money will be returned (lie) Then over night you backup 3TB of data even though you only have 700GB on all three computers and they go after another grab from your account .

I really wanted to like it...

Reviewed 5 months ago

I really wanted to like IDrive and was really hoping this was the solution for me. I have since tried backing up 2TB of my laptop to both Google and Dropbox, and each of those providers have had serious issues in their context.

Pros

The option for them to ship me a drive in which I can backup directly and ship back was a really nice feature. Sadly, thats about the best I can say.

Cons

Backing up 2TB directly to an external hard drive is still going to take several hours. Well, for me it was 11 hours which is fine. So much better than the days it would have taken over the internet. I was expecting a smooth experience and was sad when it didnt happen. First, about 9 hours into the backup, I needed to reboot my laptop. I went into the IDrive app and paused the backup, then rebooted....

Really impressed to far

Reviewed 5 months ago

Overall I'm really pleased, the cloud backup market has clearly expanded significantly since I last shopped around and I'm very impressed with this service.

Pros

I switched to IDrive recently after a bad experience with my previous system, Arq. Immediately IDrive has been better in every way I can perceive so far. The software is much clearer, better organized, and easier to use, but I haven't noticed any lack of features. I'm using it to backup my work drives to the cloud drive, both running a daily full backup as well as hourly 'Continuous Data Protection' backups. I love that i can then access that data from other computers, vs Arq which has a very limited feature set for accessing your backups (only from the computer that initiated the backups, only from the desktop application). It's also much cheaper!

Cons

I honestly haven't noticed any downsides so far, will be doing a test of the backup retrieval process soon.

Inexpensive storage with great basic functionality

Reviewed 2 years ago

Pretty good. Upload speeds are limited by my bandwidth and I would definitely use the mail-in Express service if the UK shipping charges were more reasonable, or they had a UK-based upload service. Backups have worked as expected and I hope never to have to use the recovery service for anything other than testing purposes.

Pros

The cost per terabyte is commendably low and was the initial reason I tested iDrive. All the basic functionality was available in the desktop app that I needed - scheduled backups of internal and external media. Initial testing showed that everything worked pretty much as expected 'out of the box' and that backups could be easily restored. I was sufficiently impressed to purchase the software. I've...

Cons

All timings by the software use PST (Pacific Standard Time) and a US format timestamp. I'm on the other side of the world and it seems nonsensical for me to schedule a 9 am backup on the 10th of November (10/11/22) to find that the system records it as being made at 3 am on 11/10/22. If backups are daily and no more frequent this shouldn't be an issue, but it could well cause problems (or at least...

Easy to Use but Customer Support Needs Improvement

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

I love how easy the product is to actually use. When I first used it, I thought I was getting the hang of it, but it was doing something I didn’t understand. But that was easy to overcome and with a little bit of practice, became easier and easier. Love this product for sharing files between members of my team and for the price - absolutely amazing! We are a small team and only a small number of us...

Cons

My main complaint is customer support. I called twice and chatted once with IDrive’s support and was met with snarky characters that had rude attitudes toward me. They also didn’t seem to understand the IDrive product. I asked if I can use the Cloud Sharing without Sync on because it was taking up the space on my computer (which I did not want). One rep was very quick to offer me my money back as...

iDrive is Everything I'm Looking For and More

Reviewed 2 years ago

As for iDrive itself, I never had problems about reliability. It was just recently when I had issues logging in and had unnecessary back and forth with customer support. However, as for Drive itself, it comes highly recommended and I strongly vouch for it. It works as described and your backups are guaranteed safe. I just hope they fix their customer support response times and I hope I get better answers next time. That's my only qualms about this product. However, Customer Support is a vital aspect of any business so they should do something to address it (based on my experiences).

Pros

The most important factor for me is reliability and security and iDrive excels in both. I never had major issues using it as it is the set-and-forget kind of tool. Additionally, my Synology NAS has a native application for it so that I'm able to backup NAS data securely and without any fuss. It's as easy as it gets.

Cons

I never had problems with it until recently I had to send emails to customer support because of two issues. First, there had been issues with upload speed. Secondly, I'm having problems with my account being inaccessible on my NAS but otherwise works when outside of it (my NAS device). I've reported it to customer support but I had to do 2nd or even a 3rd follow up just to get a reply. I never had...

Excellent backup program

Reviewed 3 years ago

Backups are crucial. Idrive does it well for a very competitive cost and good support. It takes a bit of time to set and learn its functions up but once working, it basically takes care of itself. It's a good program at a good price.

Pros

For years I've used Onedrive but also use Idrive for extra security. One aspect of Idrive I like is that you can do both local and cloud backups. I have external hard drives connected to my two computers and having a physical backup is an extra layer of security that is important. Also, a full restore of a crashed hard drive can take days to do online but probably less than an hour from a local...

Cons

The Idrive interface has a bit of an old fashioned look and setting it up for the first time is less intuitive than it should be. That's where excellent support comes in. But once you figure it out and select the folders to backup, it basically works in the background and can be left alone, for years if necessary without intervention. I did need to contact support to figure out how to backup Outlook files. That's been my only hiccup with the program.

At last, a backup vendor I can depend on!

Reviewed 19 days ago

Excellent. Very happy with its reliability and, especially, the help that is available when I need it. I am located in Europe, and am used to having to contact customer support teams at inconvenient times due to the time difference. But IDrive support is always available. That's a huge win for me.

Pros

I like that it is a reputable company with superb customer service, and that their product actually WORKS. I was with a competitor for many years--basically inertia and wanting to avoid hassle kept me with them. They were very costly, and there were always glitches causing me to re-install the software. Their customer support doesn't respond. Period. I was actually a bit of a stooge for staying with them for so long. I did a search of reviews and IDrive came up No. 1. I am very pleased with it, and feel much more secure about business continuity, especially as my Mac ages.

Cons

I had trouble with installation, and required help from customer service (which I got immediately). But it wasn't intuitive. I also get some random error messages I don't understand, that I need to research.

Easy to use and non-intrusive

Reviewed a year ago

I just needed a reliable off-site backup of my files.

Pros

Easy to set up and specify which folders to back. There is no need to move all your data to a special folder as there is with OneDrive or DropBox. This is a big issue as it lengthens some already long paths I have. Both OneDrive and DropBox actually corrupted and lost my data, whereas iDrive hasn't done that. I get emails and alerts to tell me if a backup has failed for any reason.

No real problems found.

Probably one of the best services out there

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, IDrive is a great system if you need to make backups of multiple systems. It's customer support will help you 24/7 with real solutions. I like it a lot, but I would like to see the GUI improve, especially on the scheduler side, and have better support for Linux (maybe a GUI like on other OS?).

Pros

The automatic backup service is incredibly effective on Windows and macOS. Once correctly setup, the backup will run automatically and send a log to the user via email. Very useful when you have multiple systems you want to backup.

Cons

Although the automatic backup works very good, the scheduler is confusing. It needs a lot of UI/UX polishing. If you are able to make it more comprehensive, you will probably have the best backup service on the block.
