We've relied on Authorize.Net for over 10 years

2019-03-13

It is easier to use than PayPal Manager.

Pros

Authorize.Net provides good, helpful API documentation. Its web-based virtual terminal is also easy to use.

Cons

I would give their support a grade of B. Fortunately, it is rarely needed. A few years back, there were some rough patches where the service was down or unreliable for brief periods. We have not had reliability problems for the last few years.

Authorize.net is good, though data analysis is clunky

2019-02-22

Pros

I am able to make ecommerce possible through buttons, though there are limitations to the design of the button (much like PayPal), and the payment pages are straight-forward.

Cons

I do no like that payments are organized by day and you cannot research payments made according to the category of payment. The data retrieval is not user-friendly, and it means that a lot of time will be spent just researching a customer's payment details.

Works well for making and receiving payments

2019-03-13

PayPal enables me to easily make payments. For international payments, it is cheaper and less trouble than sending a bank wire.

Pros

PayPal makes it easy to create invoices, receive payments, and send payments. It also remembers contacts that I regularly send payments to, making them easy to select.

Cons

The PayPal Manager virtual terminal / gateway (for other credit card merchant accounts) is not as simple or easy to use as Authorize.Net.

PayPal is the standard... still recommend after 10 years of using.

2018-12-05

Overall, great experience with PayPal and that is based on 10+ years of use. A couple years ago and then again last year they made some changes to the Admin pages that took some getting used to... but they were good improvements overall and worth taking a little time to learn some new methods of getting things done. Like most things... it depends on what you need the payment processor to do. If you need to setup up to 10 products and sell them online the PayPal buttons are awesome and something other payment processors don't offer.

Pros

A big advantage of PayPal over others (such as Stripe, Authorize.net, and so forth) is that PayPal provides for creating individual buttons for products sales that have optional fields.

Cons

No cons really when used for the right purpose. I always recommend PayPal when a website needs to sell up to 10 products and doesn't have any kind of shopping cart. Also, anytime there are months with no sales and/or sales of less than 20k per year. Then, as long as the PayPal Payments Standard is used, it makes it easy and financially the right choice.
