This Is One of the Best Tools on The Market

Reviewed 6 months ago

Really good. I use it's for content production and with clients all the time

Pros

This is seriously good software openly availabile to the public. It's like a Swiss army knife for capturing and managing digital video. The record quality is considered top of the line, the easy of use is great as a tech enthusiast, and the price is free.

Cons

Honestly no complaints, just wish there was more time in the day to try every feature. The live streaming is really good just takes time to set up due to the nature of the service.

The Recorder and Broadcaster's Homeland: OBS Studio, the Free Resource

Reviewed 4 years ago

OBS Studio is the successor to the original Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) application, delivering a lot of serious Quality of Life benefits to the software and allowing for a more Professional Grade look while also not having nearly as many problems as the original OBS suffered from; while OBS Studio suffered in its earlier years because many of those who adopted to this from the original OBS were...

Pros

~ Virtually Lossless recording quality when capturing footage locally in any available framerate and resolution provided by the software. ~ Plentiful visual effects and the ability to layer multiple images and clips allows for a Broadcast Quality and Professional Grade template and appeal for any project or Live airing. ~ Customization of User Interface themes allows for proper Eye Care when in Dark Mode. ~ Users of the software who are running an Intel CPU that has QuickSync will see a reduced load on their Graphics Card by about 05% to help improve performance and stability in GPU~intensive workloads.

Cons

~ RAM consumption is high and not meant for modern systems with 016 GB or less without the proper CPU and Graphics Card combo. ~ Users who have a CPU and Graphics Card with a low core/thread/pipeline count, frequency, and VRAM can expect noticeable framerate dips and massive performance instabilities, especially when using hardware that is running on older architectures. ~ Footage may occasionally get inexplicably cropped Horizontally when imported into Vegas Pro and other video editing software for Post~Production. ~ Not fully compatible with all forms of Video Capture devices, Webcams, and Professional Grade Cameras (though there are workarounds for some forms of hardware).

Bring remote teaching to the next level

Reviewed 4 years ago

By using OBS forums and some Youtube videos I got started in a few days and could manage my online lessons by myself, giving them a more professional and effective touch. I then learned how to bring outside speakers and computers into the show, and the possibilities were amazing.

Pros

OBS Studio is a free video editing software with lots of helful functions for live sessions. You can set up multiple shots (close-ups, half-length, etc.) and bring multiple elements into your scene (e.g., another computer screen to use as background, an external camera, even a co-host that is broadcasting via his/her cell-phone and that you can put next to you on the same screen!). Features are almost...

Cons

Like many video-editing programs, it is CPU- and memory-hungry and eats up a lot a PC resources. Accordingly, it may freeze or crash if your PC is not strong enough to cope with the load. The fact that it is open and community-developed does not help. There are commercial alternatives that are more streamlined but less flexibles (and expensive), and you may decide to turn to them at a later stage.

Take your livestream from amateur to awesome!

Reviewed 3 years ago

When COVID first hit and we were trying to keep some form of "contact" with our members during the shutdowns, one suggestion was to do some sort of "virtual class" to at least keep us engaged with and communicating with our members. Being a last-minute sort of idea, the implementation was very lacking. Zoom is a fantastic conferencing software, but for the purposes of broadcasting a live exercise class...

Pros

High flexibility, very robust feature set, the price is unbeatable (free for some people's purposes), and it is highly customizable.

Cons

Learning curve can be a little steep for new users, takes some time to setup scenes and sources if they aren't done already, with this many features and options there can be several points of failure, or it can get confusing if not decently experienced with it.

OBS Studios is the X-Factor for Recording

Reviewed a year ago

My overall experience was extremely positive with this software. OBS Studio is a dream come true for content creators, streamers, and anyone looking to capture or broadcast their content. With its user-friendly interface, limitless customization options, and low resource usage, this software has become an integral part of my content creation toolkit. I highly recommend OBS Studio to anyone looking for a reliable, feature-rich, and affordable streaming and recording solution.

Pros

Using OBS Studio was a welcoming experience for me. First of all, what you get as a user for free is outstanding in itself. One of the standout aspects of OBS Studio is its extensive customization options. The software provides a wide array of sources to capture, including display captures, webcams, images, and even browser windows. The ability to create multiple scenes and seamlessly transition between them has elevated the quality of my streams to a whole new level!

Cons

Well again, OBS Studio is open-source software, making it accessible to everyone, regardless of their budget. If I had a con for this software, it would be a few rare times, my screen froze up a few times when I was adding in layers in the main screen.

OBS Studio review: The best screen capture and live stream tool on the web

Reviewed 2 years ago

I love OBS studio, it is perhaps one of the best open-source software available online today. I can record from multiple sources and even livestream if I want. I can configure it any ways I like to suit my system and my workflow.

Pros

Easily record your screen and live stream Open source and free to use with a wide range of options some paid tools can't offer Not so heavy and so you can still get the best of it even with low performance or budget laptops Good for multiscreen setup It has support for all the major livestream services like twitch, YouTube, Dailymotion, etc. Great for gamers

Cons

Requires a bit of learning or getting used to - Not an intuitive software.

Best streaming software on the market

Reviewed 5 years ago

At the time I switched over to OBS, I was using the now defunct "Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder" (a mouthful). OBS was a massive improvement over existing streaming applications for a multitude of reasons. FMLE was showing it's age (and lack of support). XSplit was a heavyweight when it came to hardware requirements. And other software on the market was obscure and occupied the same space as XSplit.. only XSplit did it better. And then came OBS. Free, lightweight, open source. It was fantastic. I've never used another streaming app since.

Pros

Well for one, obviously the price tag- can't go wrong with free. But not only is it free, it's lightweight and simple. I've taught many people how to stream using OBS.

Cons

The interface can be a bit of a pain to use. It's a little too simple in my opinion. Some more functionality baked into the main UI could go a long way. This is mostly solved with the "Streamlabs OBS" version, which is built on top of OBS. Honestly it's been a while since I had to use the profile functionality, but admittedly it was a bit lacking when I did have to use it.

Free and relatively painless

Reviewed 5 years ago

Overall, I have found this program to be dependable. It runs every week, and I have not had to troubleshoot anything in the program in over a YEAR. That alone is commendable for a program that I run on a weekly basis. I run apple products that need more hands-on management than this program. The interface is not as sleek, but it gets the job done. Give me a little more control over audio and video syncing, and some transition effects, and I would be slamming the #5 stars across the board.

Pros

IT IS FREE. May all of my complains and frustrations with this software be safely tucked under the umbrella of a customer who is pleased at the end of the day with a product that is reliable and costs him nothing. That is a miracle and I believe that it is getting easier and easier to use. I love the fact that once I have everything set up in the back end of the program, I can get going with one click....

Cons

Set-up was a long process of educating myself with very little reward and no long-term application for the knowledge that I gained. There seems to be certain settings that you need to select for different types of streaming. Having to wade through numerous youtube videos in order to find what I needed specifically, was not fun. I would love for this software to develop presets for different purposes....

Customized streaming solution on a budget.

Reviewed 4 years ago

OBS provides an excellent way to either stream live demonstrations of software to YouTube, including voice-over audio, picture in picture to provide a talking head view in the corner of the stream. Recording streams allows for editing and uploading video compilations to multiple streaming platforms.

Pros

Integrates well with most common streaming platforms from YouTube to Facebook, Twitch and others. Simple user interface allows for quickly getting up and running with streaming or even screen capture. Support for multiple platforms allows for hosting streaming from Linux, Windows and MacOS. The interface is consistent between platforms. Supports both streaming and recording, both individually and simultaneously....

Cons

Does not support streaming to multiple destination streaming platforms simultaneously unless you have the commercial StreamLabs Prime version. Does not have built-in support for sharing a source input. There are technical methods to do both streaming to multiple streaming destinations through use of the command-line open source tool ffmpeg. You could also split an input source using ffmpeg and use it to feed multiple copies of OBS to stream to multiple destination streaming platform simultaneously, but that method is complicated if you are not familiar with ffmpeg.

The streaming software par excellence

Reviewed 3 years ago

Having this free software at your disposal is almost mandatory to have it on your computer, since possibly at some point in your life you will have to use it, and more than that we are already living in a digital age where it is completely based on making videos where you can record and save it, or just try to be a streamer and broadcast live from any platform you want to direct your stream to.

Pros

It could be the best platform for streamings in the market, since it has all the necessary tools to have a quality stream, since it has several advanced functions to be able to adjust your stream to your liking, and also to be able to manage the use of the ram and processor that your computer is consuming with the use of time. It could be said that at the beginning, the interface may scare you a little, since it is very technical and you will have to get used to the tools displayed, but with the passage of time you will get used to it, and be able to make an excellent stream. It adapts to computers with low resources, thanks to the fact that this software is very light and does not consume much towards our equipment, this advantage could be the main one said by famous streamers.

Cons

It might be quite technical and have several settings which you might not understand, but it is enough to know what they work for with a simple tutorial that there are thousands on the internet, and that is enough to be able to familiarize yourself with the software.

An Excellent Tool For Screen Recording and Streaming

Reviewed a year ago
Pros

I've been using OBS forever, and never had any issues with it. It has so many features, and I can stream or record videos instantly. I love how i can easily customize my streams and it also provides wide range of plugins to extend it's functionalities further like chat overlays, custom scene transitions, audio filters and so much more. Since it is also an Open Source Software, it is definitely worth using without any cost.

Cons

It will take some time to get used to the tool and learn how to use it properly for new users. And, occasionally I would have some performance issues, as it consumes high CPU and RAM resources.

OBS Is the King of Streaming Software... For a Reason

Reviewed 3 years ago

OBS can be a pain to set up, but once you get over that initial hump, it's peerless. The feature set you have access to for free is incredible. There's a reason why most professional streamers have incorporated OBS into their workflow: it's the king. There's simply no better value out there than OBS.

Pros

The fact that you can use OBS for free is a testament to the open source community and their commitment to providing value. I've used OBS to do online workshops, host virtual events and capture screen footage. It has done every single one of those tasks flawlessly, and without costing me a penny. Hardware acceleration is well implemented, too, so you know you're getting the most out of your rig.

Cons

It can be a bit cumbersome to set up, and a bit counter-intuitive. If you've never set up a capture and streaming type of software, than it probably will take you a few YouTube tutorials before you're up and running. Commercial solutions are much more user-friendly, but cost a bunch of money.

A powerful tool specialized for creating both live stream & prerecorded videos

Reviewed 4 years ago

I would suggest it for professional videos for startup and small companies on a limited budget. It does take time to learn the interface and features, but tutorials are available to get you started. It can also be used to stream presentations for companies and businesses. Many game streamers also use it for their professional YouTube and twitch channels.Overall, it would prove to be useful, customizable and powerful tool for all your professional needs.

Pros

I like that it provides a great level of customization options, specially for advanced level users can configure it to make professional videos that can be uploaded on company's official channels of video sharing platforms. One can live stream videos on all popular platform like Twitch,YouTube,Facebook and many more. It's open source makes it love It is also good for low spec computers with limited resources because of its low impact on the bit frame rate.So it's a quick, efficient and reliable software.

Cons

It's interface is not as user friendly as other screen recording software and takes some time to learn the features. But after that you will love to explore and use the tools to make your perfect video.Other thing is it lacks post production editing features like adding image, video, sound or motion effects, graphics and other modifications. For this other software will be needed which is an additional overhead cost.

Open source, free software for streaming and recording

Reviewed 2 years ago

It's a very customizable, free and highly compatible sw which you can use for many different things. Since it's open source, if you have some problems, you can find tons of forums and videos because the community is ample. It's not perfect but definitely worth the price (again, it's free!): recommended. Go check it out.

Pros

OBS is free, open source and is compatible with Linux, Windows and and MacOS. It's fairly simple to use and it's highly customizable (choose quality, format, framerate, sample rate, number of audio channels, decay rate, set hotkeys and much more). You can preset many different scenes and screens, so it's easy to switch between different windows during the recording/streaming. It's easy to manipulate...

Cons

Sometimes there could be strange bugs, difficult to solve... like there's an issue that may affect PCs with 2 different GPU. You'd have to tweak between the setting of your PC in order to let OBS know which one is active. Otherwise you might get a black screen suddenly while recording.

OBS Is a Great Free Resource

Reviewed 8 months ago

For a free software, I very much appreciate its versatility and streaming services. It offers as much as most products that have significant costs to them.

Pros

I appreciate greatly that it is free and works amazing for the price. It gives us what we need for video recording and the quality is solid. The multi-screen capturing gives us versatility to get what we need for our production. It is fairly light-weight for what it accomplishes. I really appreciate the streaming service it offers.

Cons

It was a little tricky to get setup and diagnose issues, especially with the low quality of our video and our slow internet. I've had issues with the screen recording and haven't had fixed the issues yet. There are limited resources available to troubleshoot issues, too.

Fantastic Screen Capture Tool

Reviewed 5 years ago

I've used OBS in the past to create presentations/tutorials for teams as well as streaming for a simple screen-share solution with other developers. The combined simplicity of the interface, ease with which to setup a scene as well as switch between scenes for different elements of presentations has been invaluable.

Pros

Literally the best feature of OBS is "free", but as far as features and functionality goes, even if it were paid it'd likely be one of the best tools available for straight forward screen capture and broadcasting. My favorite features are the scene management and sources tools, switching between shots and sources, as well as interfaces and transitions, it's incredibly flexible and invaluable, especially if you're either streaming or recording instructing or giving a presentation.

Cons

Help documentation could be more robust, though with a low-moderate knowledge of encoding it's really straight forward. May have too many features for some, explaining to someone unfamiliar with elements of encoding or the interface can be challenging.

Overall OBS has been great, it does what i want it to do, whether it be streaming or recording. It does it all!!!

Pros

Let's start off by saying that this software is FREE, while the saying "You get what you pay for" is a valid statement, i think OBS is feature rich for the cost of 0$. You can link up all the different streaming platforms and customize the streaming, recording settings based on what you want. I was actually very surprised how in depth this software was for being freeware.

Cons

No complaints on my end, i haven't run into any issues with it lately, i am a happy user!

OBS is absolutely ESSENTIAL software for online streaming

Reviewed a year ago

Thankful that this software is (FREELY) available and works so reliably. Doesn't matter the video/audio source; it handles everything well. Absolutely no plans to switch to anything else (even if they were to start charging for it).

Pros

We've been regularly (weekly) streaming our services for 3+ years now, exclusively using OBS Studio to do so, and it's worked essentially flawlessly. While the options for configuring the software are abundant, they're still not TOO hard to figure out, and the ability to easily work with (in a variety of ways) any incoming video/audio are great. Plus, you can't beat the price!

Cons

Honestly haven't yet found any downside to using this software.

OBS is the best screen recorder for gaming

Reviewed 7 years ago

I am able to create crisp, professional looking videos at the low, low price of zero. I also really enjoy learning new features that I can perform with it, which I do almost every day.

Pros

OBS is free which is great, but there are so many good features about this product that it is impossible to list here. What I really love about OBS though is the level of control that it gives you over your gaming videos. You can screen record, while also recording yourself giving a walk through of the game, it looks amazing, and there is no watermark like there is in some "freeware."

Cons

OBS is INCREDIBLY difficult to master. Thankfully there are tons of Youtube videos that give you incredibly detailed instructions.

Pros

As an avid user, OBS Studio stands out with its cost-effectiveness and versatility. Being free and open source, it eliminates licensing concerns. With a wide range of features, customization options, and an active development team, it offers endless streaming possibilities. Cons

I appreciate its powerful features despite a learning curve and occasional bugs. The built-in audio delay ensures smooth synchronization, and while setup can be challenging, online tutorials help. Fairly simple and powerful tools for improving your stream/video's production value

Reviewed 6 years ago

So far I've used OBS to record instructional videos for some clients and friends, and have also tried out streaming animation work and some games. It's a good simple tool for my uses.

Pros

OBS takes what seems like a daunting and difficult process and makes it simple and straightforward. Setting yourself up to stream on platforms like Twitch and/or record video for Youtube takes a few minutes. For someone like me who knows very little about the finer details of video and streaming, this is great. The ability to create different presets for your streaming and capture is also fantastic, so you can easily switch between "starting soon" graphics, your game or software, full-screen face shots, etc. It has ample tools to set yourself up for a successful stream without hassle.

Cons

The OBS interface isn't as intuitive as it could be - as easy as it is to get started, it's not really a "pickup and play" kind of software. I've had trouble getting certain functions to work, particularly in organizing additional elements in a scene, and also selecting my audio source.

OBS Studio is THE solution for training, podcasts and streaming!

Reviewed a year ago
Pros

OBS Studio is very versatile, and a producer can integrate many features to put on professional productions. The cost of OBS is FREE, but there are other additional plugins, such as those published by OWN3D, that allow really neat overlays and a very professional look. Also, easy to integrate mixers, slides, and other media, including videos and music.

Cons

While there are a ton of videos and tutorials about OBS Studio, it should be mentioned that you will have to expend a bit of time learning all the ways it works to be competent with it. It's not a toy software... it has a lot of features. These take some time to master. I come from a film and video background, have used analog and video editing tools, include Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, and AVS4You. It is a similar level of learning curve. However, once your deep into it, you wonder how you got along without such a versatile piece of kit.

OBS Great For On-The Fly Garageband-eque Performances

Reviewed 4 years ago

It's my go to for an organization on a limited budget and works well. I've found many different ways to use it and it's been flexible enough to meet every need I have thrown at it, including ones I never thought of before.

Pros

Free. Very little cost for startup. Very flexible and multi-platform means I can roll this out to a wide variety of devices as needed without needing to worry about licensing. Awesome. I've been able to plug in webpages as a video input, media files, PowerPoints, even wireless iPhone camera feeds with very little issues. Exporting video is super easy too and I've been able to use this as an in-house broadcast for a projector for school events very easily. This can port a video and audio feed (with some technical know-how) to Zoom, and then go from Zoom to Facebook to stream. Crazy.

Cons

Can be a bit clunky and may not be for the beginner. If you are willing to put some effort into getting things working, free will do you well, but this is not plug and play and takes some time to configure. Expect some time to figure out how to hack your setup into the software. If you need support, online forums seem to be your best bet, but that's about it. You get what you pay for.

Very useful and easy to use. We only found one framerate issue but I'm pretty sure the solution is on the web. Besides that, it's really lightweight, the results are visible inmediatly after the recording is stopped and generates easy to share file formats. The included volume options for mic and desktop audio are all I normally need.

Pros

I didn't need much: record videos for myself and the team of very specific processes. Setting up the app was extremely easy. I loved how the app is very lightway and doesn't take any additional time to process the file: you can see it as soon as you press "stop recording". You're given a lot of audio and video options , as well as the fantastic ability to record the desktop audio which was exactly what I needed. If you eventually need to go beyond that you have filters, multiple input, etc. Only tried once broadcasting in youtube and it was really easy to setup because the interface is really easy and self explainatory.

Cons

I noticed an issue when trying to record footage for a very light videogame we're making that even when the game was running fine, the frame was apparently very very low in the resulting video. Never tried again because it wasn't fully necessary to solve. I really miss not having suggestions from the app itself about how to improve the recording quality specially with some software that is very popular to use (like main game engine editors).
