I used this for years, but InDesign took over.

2018-03-30

It was a great asset in the beginning of my graphic design career.

Pros

Great for books (large and small), pamphlets, ads, posters, and anything text-heavy. Third-party plugin were useful, and their developers were collaborative.

Cons

Hasn't kept up with OSX, or the industry in general. The last technical support I had was not only rude, but uninformed. of their own features, namely the tables tool which they said did not exist, even though I was using it right then and there.

QuarkXPress

2019-05-09

Overall QuarkXPress does what I need and does it well.

Pros

With their conversion and simple importing you can work on a variety of filetypes and incorporate many elements into a piece.

Cons

Although the user interface is pretty intuitive and simple - it is very outdated. The design of the program doesn't hold up to the designs it can produce.

Makes my job easy

2019-07-24

My boss had traded it from a design company that owned him money.

Pros

And I can import InDesign files, pdf, and most other files into my program.

Cons

Cost is getting a little out of hand. Seems like each year they are wanting me to pay so I can get an upgrade.

Some nice features, but lacking many. Rickety user experience

2019-01-14

As a former InDesign user, InDesign has all the features that QuarkXPress has, plus more options and control. The QuarkXPress interface is buggy and frankly feels unfinished.

Pros

Master pages are very useful for streamlining the creation of a large document (we used it to automatically show chapter headings on every page of a user manual). 60 days of free tech support is a nice perk.

Cons

Anytime you click on one of the palettes in the side bar, the whole user interface goes into a mini-seizure and flashes light and dark. Exporting PDF has no progress bar, the software just goes "not responding" for 10-20 minutes so you have no idea how long you will have to wait.

Quark after using InDesign for about ten years

2019-10-30

Laying out ads and pages for our newspaper is very easy in Quark.

Pros

Very easy to transition to after using InDesign for about ten years.

Cons

There are times that files imported from Illustrator do some strange things when you export the Quark file to a pdf.

I used QuarkXPress to create books & versions of ads. It is fantastic with typography & layout.

2018-01-16

This was an easy to use layout tool.

Pros

It was really easy to layout a design in Quark.

Cons

I use primarily Adobe products, so the tools are different, look different and/or are in different places, so it takes a little bit of time to get used to.

Good sleep, less stress, a peaceful work week..... Oh I thought you said benefits from using this software.

Pros

Ok the software is pretty wonderful and through the years we continue to choose Quark for book/media publishing over other products that we use more frequently day to day with other media because Quark just has always gotten the job done and done well.

Cons

Focusing on becoming a software for producing cross-platform media and new media has taken away from their bread and butter of being the go to software for book and print media publishing over the years.

Pros

It is comparable to InDesign as far as features an functionality go.

Cons

I do like how easy it is to use Typekit with Adobe software, so I've been spoiled with that.

QuarkXpress is a great tool.

2017-11-23

Pros

The interface is quite straight forward for a design tool. I love that a number of products can be designed using Quark, from books, the brochures, to posters and Newsletters.

Cons

Not much cons, in my experience. However, I think for image editing, it should have more features to edit graphics.

If Quark were a man, I'd marry him.

2019-07-31

I have used Quark for everything from business card design to websites.

Pros

I love everything about QuarkXPress. I've been using Quark since 1990 and also taught Quark for a few years. There is an elegance to the way Quark works that is missing in other page layout software. It was set up by graphic designers for graphic designers. Even though I own Adobe Creative Suite, I prefer to use Quark for print and web projects.

Cons

Even if I run into a snag or problem I am able to find a solution easily with the Quark HELP feature or on their website.

simple and fast, functions that go straight to the point when designing

2018-05-22

Pros

I can make a newspaper page in just 10 minutes, because of the ease of handling the palette of styles and predesigned templates in a window, the QPS function for me is great for assigning press releases to journalists easily and quickly. equally the way to create the styles is quite easy

Cons

It is horrible that this program suddenly closes for no reason, both in mac and pc, I do not know if it is because it requires a lot of memory, because I also do not like it to be quite heavy, and when handling many jpeg files the interface becomes slow , so I'm forced to do it some time in several documents.

QuarkXPress Review

It's a software that most magazines, newspapers, and publications use to package their content.

Pros

The software has tools that are simple to use when one designs news pages, magazines, and other graphics. it allows one to show creativity in order to come up with eye-catching designs.

Cons

The lasso tools are rather difficult to use and can be improved.

Quark is just like Adobe InDesign with less bells and whistles, and is a little harder to use.

2018-03-14

It was super easy for basic projects.

Pros

I used it in college, and it was a great beginner tool for learning how to do page layouts, and is relatively cost efficient.

Cons

It doesn't integrate well with other software, and it falls short on the graphical layout side.

We use it this product for years but we have to switch

2019-02-25

Amazing we use it for years, but we have to change to more modern product can solve the current workflow of digital/print media

Pros

If you go for make prints books, is amazing... but if you work in print and digital media... well is gonna be a pain.

Cons

So you have remake the book for digital, other products save that more time because offer a solution to that problem Also the pricing is very expensive, they should try to find another model In the last 5-10 years they lost the market because of that.

Desktop publishing With QuarkXpress

2019-05-26

I use Quarkexpress in small projects because of its user-friendly features.

Pros

Ever since it was released in 1987 QuarkXPress has dominated the Desktop Publishing. I use Quarkexpress because when its come to page layout it is the best one out there because of its simplicity.its text tools are very user-friendly and lets you get the job done very quickly and efficiently. Also, QuarkXPress supports more printers than any other desktop publishing software.

Cons

Maybe PDF exports could be easier in the future

I've used this product for years and love the ease of designing with it.

2018-06-05

I can create my design projects just the way I want them to be because it offers many options and is easy to use.

Pros

I have found Quark much easier to use than InDesign.

Cons

I'd have to say the cost, it's expensive for a stand-alone product. Because of the high price I am very slow to upgrade to newer version.

Great for Layouts if this is your only program

2020-10-09

If you are simply doing layout, Quark is the way to go; however, if you need to incorporate images, links, etc. then stick with Adobe Creative Cloud and InDesign so you are not paying for two software formats.

Pros

Quark is absolutely fantastic for multipage spread layouts or any multipage project that requires standard margins, guides, templates etc.

Cons

If you are a fan of Adobe for your art work and work as a graphic designer it's just much simpler to use Adobe's InDesign as it ties in with all the Adobe programs.

Great Software for any kind of Publishing!

2019-10-12

Software is easy to use if you have used other professional publishing software.

Pros

The user interface has a good flow and everything can be spreadout with multiple monitors.

Would like more customization of the user interface. Overall no cons that would deter from considering for those that publish to the web or print on a regular basis.
