We switched over to using Sitecore 4 or 5 years ago, transiting from another web content management system. The transition was a lengthy process, mainly because we had to switch over the look and feel and content of the existing site. Sitecore is a great tool and is very flexible, but it requires more skill and people to maintain then our previous CMS. We enjoyed the previous one, but made the switch because of the capability and functionality available with Sitecore. I would recommend Sitecore, but just as long as the team that supports it has the technical skill and there is a well thought out plan for how it should be configured.
Because Sitecore is essential just an online platform that is a .net application, you can set up and configure the system anyway you want, and get as granular as you want with the permissions. The system is real flexible and if you can think of it, the system can most likely do it! It is a more advanced system then some of the other CMS out there (which is also a con).
You need a real concrete plan for setting up your CMS, everything from the templates to how you want users to edit the pages. There is a lot, so it takes a lot of planning and forward thinking. You also need people with the right skills and tools to maintain and configure the system. It is a more advanced system then some of the other CMS out there (which is also a pro).

We were initially excited about their new accelerator product, SXA, but soon realized that compared to other visual builders on the market it was at least three generations behind. The targeting/audience was really unknown--you had to have extensive coding knowledge to use it, but it was cumbersome if you did actually want to just code. If you didn't have coding experience, it was totally unusable, so you're much better off with a WordPress page builder solution (which is what we now use).
The only real thing we liked about using Sitecore's CMS was the stability. It didn't crash more than a few times a year, and it never got hacked (that we know about ).
Where do I start ? This product is just awful. It's hard to use. It's not friendly to marketers, only developers. It requires extensive customization and coding just to produce a simple site. There is no upside to the expense and effort if you're a marketer or content producer wanting to publish good content quickly.

Once you learn how to use it, it allows you to do a lot more than other major CMS, it allows you to customize your website very easily using different modules, without any need to use your precious IT support hours. Good if very few and skilled people need to learn how to use it, and if you have the time to learn its logic. The system
I found the learning curve for this CMS longer than any other I've used before, you spend a lot of time trying to figure out how things work. Some processes could be streamlined. Being it kind of difficult to learn, I wouldn't advise it for organizations that need many people to use the CMS. Overall, it's very expensive not only in terms of money but also in terms of training. Also, apparently not many freelancers know it well, hence might be hard to find an extra pair of hands for a deadline.

This CMS is amazing and has a ton of features, but getting it off the ground can be expensive. I am not a fan of the per user license and would rather pay one price and have as many users as I want.
Excellent multisite multilingual tool. Easy to update with a ton of extra marketing features
EXPENSIVE. Per user license agreement. Needs heavy customizations.

For large enterprise operations with a fully staffed full time team to support this is a great option. Especially for small to medium multi-site environments. Scaling up from dozens to hundreds of sites however looks like it would be a challenge to govern content and code base.
For experienced .NET teams familiar with the Sitecore platform we can customize and extend virtually every feature of the CMS. Newer marketing automation features really enable us to take our marketing and retail based sites to a much higher level of sophistication with modern features like content personalization and real-time A/B testing etc.
Once our team got familiar with the Sitecore way of configuring sites they felt effective, however that ramp up time a longer than some other systems. That has made it difficult to find experienced talent. It has also made outsourcing more experience than some other more common CMS systems like Wordpress or Drupal.

While the tool was by far the most challenging CMS I had to work with, its logic and how it's translated at different levels of the arborescence is really consistent and allows mutualizing content. Another thing I believe Sitecore is doing a good job at, is how efficiently you can upload and organize your image library.
Understanding the logic behind the CMS/site build wasn't the easiest. In essence, the concept itself is logical and makes sense once you get a good grasp of it, but nowadays, there are easier ways of doing things/achieving the same goal. As such, it looks a bit deprecated in terms of logic to me. The layout is extremely outdated and could use a fresh build. The tool itself also lacks reactivity and can be slow as hell at times.

I managed a website from 2006-2010 on the Sitecore platform. I thought it was a great CMS and very flexible. I am not an expert coder but found it very easy to use. Ultimately, it had more features and tools than the organization found necessary for the price they were paying and they switched platforms.

I honestly cannot think of anything I like about this software that other content management softwares don't have.
At least the version I use is definitely not user-friendly. It is slow and complicated to use. Everything is complicated and takes forever. The aesthetics are outdated. I have never fully learned how to use this software because no one in my organization knows. We have all learned by trial and error and random online forums. I cannot wait to use a different CMS for our company website.

It's good and gets the job done, but more flexibility would improve it's usage for dynamic websites that are constantly changing and adding new content types.
Well structured layout. Easy to create new custom pages with the modules and page layouts.
Limited search function - should be able to search for content based on author and be able to search through the text in the content. Needs better wysiwyg editor support. Difficult to add custom content types or create your own modules based on typical functionality (ie. list N items from ListA sort by Field).

The Agility CMS coupled with the customer support we have received makes this a complete package that deserves high praise.
A robust and well-designed CMS, perfect for localization/multi-language sites and assigning content update tasks to several employees with ability to approve content prior to publishing. The Version History feature has been indispensable, allowing quick rollbacks not only to the last published content, but to content that has been archived since the launch of the site. Customer support has been top-notch, and the continual refining of Agility reveals how serious customer feedback is taken.
The ability to work with other applications such as SalesForce and Eloqua within the website environment should be easier than it currently is.

Agility CMS was a vital part of transitioning our website and it's functionality to the next level. The team works effectively with you along your journey to get your CMS exactly how you need it to be.
The robust nature of the CMS let's us control how we want to promote over 25 years of content, with minimal limitations.

Agility CMS is a feature-rich content management system that provides a variety of tools for managing, organizing, and publishing information. It is helpful for companies that require a reliable and secure system, but some companies may find it to be complicated and pricey.
- Provides a variety of tools for organizing, managing, and publishing material.- Access restrictions and workflow management improve security and compliance.- Building and designing pages is simple because to the drag and drop interface.- API functionality enables simple system integration.- The content management process is streamlined with built-in LMS Task management and Approval Process Control.
- People who are unfamiliar with content management systems may find it difficult to comprehend and operate the program.- Building a unique feature might need developer assistance.- It could be a little expensive for some businesses.

Agility replaced a combination of off the shelf and home grown CMS solutions. Being able to integrate and get everything in one place was an enormous help. Our campus uses Drupal which we found to be overwhelming when we tested, and restrictive given that campus restricts our editing through how they've set up their templates. We needed something that would allow us to implement the features we needed while maintaining the visual identity of campus. Agility allows us to do that easily.
The flexibility of Agility has been a huge asset and allowed us to rebuild our site from the ground up in a relatively short period of time. The editing interface is simple enough that we've been able to have many team members contribute to the site even during the initial template building phases (i.e. content could be added to Agility even before we had the visual template to pull the content into).
There are some minor issues like the inability to see a comprehensive list as to where any given asset is being employed on the site. Having that ability would make organization of components, images, and other elements much simpler.
Thank you so much Travis! We are glad you are enjoying the flexibility and editing features! Great point about Drupal, we wrote more about this on our blog just recently: https://agilitycms.com/resources/posts/drupal-migration-what-s-the-alternative

We have and continue to recommend Agility and Edentity to anyone looking for a robust content management system that will literally transform to fit their very specific needs.
Customer support is beyond comparable to any other 3rd party vendor I have ever experienced. The continued support and implementation of new features as well as willingness to meet our ever changing needs has been amazing and almost unheard of in the industry.
There are no cons.

The support team has been available 24/7 and very response for any questions we may have and when we have to deal with urgent matters - doesn't matter what the ask is, good or bad, the team is there to help support us and our development partners.
The ease of using the platform, the integration abilities with third-party tools - super developer friendly. We're able to connect through APIs with our development partners to have data flow from our database through the CMS, content to the app.
There are limitations to the platform, like anything out there - and so not everything is baked into the CMS but we're able to get around that and still connect through APIs to get the data that we need. To get enhancements to the platform we know it takes a long time to get them, as it affects the entire platform, so this is another reason why we do tend to look for API integrations.
Hi Deep, We are very happy that you enjoy the ease of the platform and the very easy ability for integrations through the APIs. It is great to see Scene using some of the more advanced features and getting real benefits from the platform.

It is positive, I do not have to worry about whether our website is properly indexed on search engines or the back-end programming is up-to-date. I can concentrate on content and keeping my website updated.
Agility is a very flexible platform for developpers, offering a way to easily create CMS content for any kind of website. The built-in photo editor, the easily searchable media & documents are great for keeping track of anything we put online. Agility CMS update their software frequenltly with new features.
As an editor, this is a software that is best used by someone who is familiar with products like Wordpress. It is not intuitive enough for someone who has very little knowledge of the web to use.

Having never worked on a website before, Agility made this process very easy (and fun)!
- Very user friendly - Easy to follow as set up is similar to our actual site - Love the ability to have shared content - very greatful to have the "revert" capability - The unpublish feature is great especially if we need to modify a section and don't want users to see it (without deleting it)
- some files should be restricted to upload if they are too large (or a warning should appear). It is sort of after the fact that we realized some files are too large for the general user to open easily on the site. - Would love the ability to upload multiple images to a section of agility but not just to the documents section. It would be ideal if the zip file could transfer all the files to the actual module in agility.

I really like that it allows you to manage all the content in one place and its distribution to different touchpoints is very easy. It provides an intuitive creative experience that enables non-technical staff to seamlessly make changes. It offers the option of using any programming language, generating a lot of flexibility in the creative process.
This is a very robust and flexible platform, the only downside is that it can be overwhelming for new users to handle its wide variety of features.

I understand the change request fee cannot be waived, but instead of issuing change request fees for smaller modifications, provide a bulk modification fee. For example, we are currently working on revamping the Corner Office Blog and will require several changes to be made on it within the next few weeks. Perhaps there could be a general change fee for the modifications on the blog instead of individually. I'd...
Agility CMS is fairly easy to use. For the most part, it is easy to complete simple tasks like posting a blog or changing the content on a page. It is also easy to find things on Agility as everything is organized and labelled to be user-friendly. The interface requires for little or no coding knowledge in order to have the website up and running. Also, the customer service is usually prompt and much attention to detail is given, with a few exceptions (See Cons). And help is received whenever we have an issue or query.
Although the accessibility to content is an important function, I find that Agility doesnt allow for the user to have much control over the appearance of the website aside from the initial set-up. Any other adjustments after this usually involves a change request which require a few days to be completed and additional fees. This is especially inconvenient because other website or blogging platforms allow users to modify the appearance themselves and have the changes be immediate. With customer service, although the initial response is speedy, I find that there are miscommunications that lead to projects being delayed or not completed at all. My recommendation for better customer service would be to schedule phone calls when e-mails require further clarification.
We are offering services in blocks of hours now to address the concern of 'one off' change requests. We plan to do more to educate our development partners on what to recommend and best practices, but ultimately that is their decision.

The most valuable asset this CMS platform has going for it is its customer support. As a client using this platform for the first time, our development team had many questions, and the Agility team was always there to answer them and provide support in a timely manner. Agility CMS is the perfect solution for clients that want to be able to get content management out of the hands of IT and into the hands of business users, yet also has the flexibility to be highly customized by an experienced development team using the .NET platform.
It may not be intuitive to use as some of the other CMS offerings out there, and may require some training to get the most out of it and use the platform to its fullest capacity. That said, the Agility team has offered various in-house training opportunities and personal one-on-one sessions to get us up to speed and using the platform confidently.
