Pros

Great solution to build landing pages / small & big websites with low budget - but if you got the money the results will be amazing.
If you are a person who has many thoughts that you would like to publish or perhaps you like fashion and want to show that interest, then WorldPress is your best friend.
WordPress is really an amazing content management system, that allows you to build stunning and amazing websites within few hours.

Pros

This tool is an excellent knowledge base. This is the primary use for it that we have, and it does it perfectly.
It is a great great tool for creating documents like PRDs and Information Documents of Projects and then sharing with team members to view and collaborate.
Confluence is reliable and offers a good set of functionalities and features, the capacity to organize and edit documentation online is great.

Cons

We've found ourselves stalled out badly with problems at times because a theme or plugin had terrible support.
The biggest problem with WordPress is the lack of understanding that it is a blog software.
As a result, I'm forced to disapprove and delete spam comments individually, and when you get hundreds of these kind of spam comments each week, you can imagine that it can be frustrating.

Cons

Sometimes I have difficulties with formatting some of the tables as it is frustrating when it does not follow what you want it to do and it takes a while to correct the mistake.
Searching was severely handicapped, and no linking of documents was really feasible. There was also poor management of permissions.
Performance over the last 6 months has degraded and it's now really slow. The over-arching user management is really confused.

Confluence is a great next step

We use Confluence primary for KM management and we especially like how easy it is to move the thousands of KM articles over and have them be indexed.

Pros

I love the ease of the product and easy it is to update content for our KM data. It also allows us to move data over very easily.

Cons

There is a little bit of a learning curve for anyone using Joomla or WordPress to using this product.

Once a Market Leader

We use Confluence for hosting Tech Blogs, Incident post-mortems and various other info for our Tech Community. As a Tech company, most of our users seem to find the product easy enough to use, but for those outside of Tech, they find the UI dated and overly complicated versus Wordpress (for example).

Pros

Confluence is user-friendly and welcoming to new users, but only if you're familiar with other products that Atlassian offer (JIRA etc.)

Cons

Confluence was once the market-leader but now seems to rely too heavily on name rather than product. The UX seems dated and somewhat bloated compared to others in the sector

Confluence

A great enterprise wiki with the right planning

We had the need for a central documentation source and found SharePoint to be lacking. Confluence was a good fit and works well on mobile for reading (which is how most use it where I work.) Authoring required staff who were unfamiliar with blogging or WordPress to be trained, especially those coming from a MS Office background. But those used to web publishing took to it fast. Plan out your spaces and pages according to how your org is structured and based on existing directory structures you have in Active/Open/Azure Directory.

Pros

A fast and capable wiki that works on mobile

Cons

Self hosting requires in house technical knowledge and staff training will need consideration

Confluence

The Perfect Internal Knowledge Database

When WikiSpaces recently reported that they were closing their service right after I purchased an annual membership, both myself and my employer was quite disappointing. AS a result I lost funding for our internal knowledge database (it was a pet project to improve my value to the company). As a result, I experimented with many different alternatives, and finally settled with Confluence. I have been so happy with it that I also use it for my own small businesses knowledge base. it is efficient, has a dedicated mobile app, full of features and integrations, and carries a very modern look.

Pros

An incredible amount of features and integrations. Confluence is able to easily communicate with Google apps, Microsoft Office programs, etc. It even includes it's own widgets for creating Gantt charts! The presentation is quite modern, and though I haven't dig into it yet, I've seen that there's also a theme system in place to change the appearance of the environment. Embedding pictures and diagrams are really easy and have enough options to get it to look the way you want. Confluence frequently has both minor and major updates, it can be kinda exciting to login on a Monday morning and see something new!

Cons

It would be nice to have some level of image editor native to the app, similar to what one has in WordPress. It seems to have everything but a proper footnote widget, something that I really favor in both my research and my workplace. With the frequent updates, also comes the chance that not everyone will appreciate the changes; I had been using the blog feature for a few months quite happily, but recently they changed a few of the features in the blog function to make it more mobile friendly. As a result I lost a few features that I favored. It did however improve over time and I got over the lost of those features.
