Pros

This software has the great advantage to be completely free and having the capacity to integrate other free and powerful APIs.
Inkscape surprised me positively for the number of features and more, for being free and for having open source. Creating knots, curves and modifying the lines is super easy and simple to use.
This software is so powerful, it's like a nuclear missile. I love what you can draw with it - literally anything.

Pros

The thing I like the most is the ease of use of software and the amount of awesome features that is included with the software.
The pros of this product is that it is extremely great for creating projects, especially when using a MAC. I highly recommend Apple products as it works best for designing.
You are able to make beautiful and stunning illustrations for your social media posts or any posters. You can edit any symbol, picture etc with it.

Cons

The only problem I have had with this software is its weakness in exporting formats compatible with Latex.
It's hard for me to find something to dislike about Inkscape. I'd only say that it could use some tweaks in the interface itself, especially in the dark theme.
No option to see colors are print or screen-friendly. Inkscape lags behind premium vector graphic options.

Cons

The bummer about Adobe is that you can no longer purchase the software as a one-off. Now it’s a subscription that you have to pay monthly or yearly and the fees are quite hefty.
I think most of the frustration comes with user error and not doing enough research on the current subject.
On rare occasions, the app will stall or close down altogether. This could be a flaw with either the application itself or the system I'm using it on.

The only best software for performing vector based illustration designs for free

Best alternative for adobe illustrator!

Pros

> Being a Scientific illustrator, Inkscape is the best alternate for adobe illustrator. > The interface is clean, minimalistic and user-friendly. The latest version has Dark mode, which is cool! > The vector files can be saved as svg, eps, pdf, png, jpeg and many more. > The software is completely free and open source. > Inkscape has a wonderful, highly supportive community that can help you resolve most of the problems faced during the workflow. > Now, one can import simple illustrations from Bioicons (science illustration library) directly.

Cons

> Gradient feature can be improved a bit so that illustrators can create better visuals.

Best Free Alternative for Vector Graphics

Reviewed 4 years ago

GREAT FREE alternative to Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator !

Pros

It's Free!! If you don't have yet around $500 to $600 to buy Expensive competitors like Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator, it's the best alternative around to draw vector graphics with nearly as many features.

Cons

Well of course since it's free, you couldn't expect too many "additional" features apart from the basic vector point to point and shape drawing tools. It could use way more embedded shapes (like chat smileys, fruits, nature symbols, common application navigation icons, etc...) and also If Inkscape could create multiple pages documents by default without an external plugin just like its competitors it would be great. One last thing from my opinion, being able to add links to texts and objects inside exported PDF's directly from within Inskscape without the SVG turn-around alternative in the browsers would be a GREAT FEATURE for beginners targeted by this software.

Pros

It is a good opensource alternative to Adobe Illustrator, and it can open and edit Illustrator files

I used Inkscape when I first launched my business because it is by far the best option out there for FREE! I could not have ever created any of my first designs without this program.

Pros: It's open source which means it's FREE! Similar layout to Adobe Illustrator Very powerful

Cons

Cons: There is a pretty steep learning curve (especially if you've never used a vector program before) Although it's very powerful, it lacks some options that the competitors offer

Used Inkscape to design my logos for my clinic but then ended up switching to Adobe Illustrator because of compatibility issues with InDesign for converting to print media.

Pros

Cons

- Not as feature rich as Adobe Illustrator. - Not as compatible with other software because it saves as .SVG

Is free, open-source, and allows you to do Illustration work just fine, has a lot of options not as much as Illustrator, but this is free, if you can take time to learn how to use Inkscape you can do almost any Illustration with it.

Pros

Has a lot of options to do Illustrations, you can do drawings, logos, icons is a really powerful application.

Cons

In Windows runs kinda weird, on Mac and Linux is great, There's a learning curve if you come from apps like Adobe Illustrator, which doesn't have the advanced options of Illustrator.

If it's what you got, it'll work just fine

Used Inkscape on computers we had that could not or did not run Adobe Illustrator. It works well and does the job, and for the price is very reasonable value. It's not my top pick for GD work, but when it's what you have, it works just fine.

Pros

Successfully replicated many of the vector and image based functions of Adobe illustrator at a very reasonable cost.

Cons

Unlike Adobe Illustrator, I found the User Interface for Inkscape to be less intuitive and also generally less appealing to look at and work in.

Great for vectors and 2D images overall

Reviewed 5 years ago

Great app that helps me a bunch with vectors in general, and quite powerful (specially if combined with GIMP and others).

Pros

First of all, can't beat the price – totally free. It's a great alternative to Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW for most things image drawing and editing. Also, it allows you to open (and edit) Adobe Illustrator and PDF files, which is a plus for a free app like this, and it's got a vast array of features.

Cons

The developers apparently haven't given much thought to UX fundamentals, as the interface is sometimes complex to understand; there are way too many options, so there's some getting used to, but fortunately it's customisable. Also, there are some things that are simply not available, no 3D; no cloud services; some tools work quite different from the way they do in other apps... but overall, and specially when combined with GIMP and some plugins, it gets almost as powerful as the 'fancy' apps out there.

Inkscape

Fantastic free alternative to Adobe Illustrator

Reviewed 4 years ago

Overall experience is very good. I've been using Inkscape for over a year now and would highly recommend it to anyone who's looking to get a start in illustration and graphic design. I've been able to create lots of fantastic designs for print on demand clothing sites like Teespring and Printful as well as graphics for my websites and blogs.

Pros

Just as good as Illustrator when it comes to making logos and designs. Very similar to Illustrator in features and functionality. Whatever you can make in Illustrator, you can also make in Inkscape with relative ease. Fantastic alternative to Illustrator since it is open source, actively developed and free! Working with gradients is much easier in Inkscape. Inkscape is also far less CPU intensive than its Adobe counterpart, whereas Illustrator is a beast and requires some intense GPU power.

Cons

It is much easier to work with text in Illustrator than it is in Inkscape. Inkscape can be a little messy here sometimes. Another con is that Inkscape doesn't currently allow you to output files with a CMYK color profile, which is inconvenient when it comes to designs for print.

Adobe Illustrator allows for complex, and detailed illustrations.

Reviewed 6 years ago

Illustrator helps a LOT with several projects at six flags, because of the web banners we design, it's hard to create a picture without an illustration program. Overall, I'd say it's one of the best albeit costly drawing programs out there.

Pros

Has to be the versatility. Adobe Illustrator outclasses a lot more of the other, lesser illustrators out there, but there are definitely some competitors to it. InkScape for example, is a hefty enemy to Illustrator, because of the raw power it has over Illustrator. There is very little, if not nothing that Illustrator can do that InkScape can not.

Cons

The price is a little steep for a drawing program. InkScape is free, but Illustrator has dropped the outright purchase option for a subscription service, that gets even more expensive without creative cloud. Although, it does have the best looking logo of all the Creative Cloud services.

Adobe Illustrator

It is worth paying for IF you are using it often

Reviewed 5 years ago

Very reliable and feature-rich software. It does have all you need with a million of tutorials and how-to videos ALL over the internet. Your only question here is whether it makes sense to pay for their license. The free alternative is Inkscape.

Pros

Probably one of the best tools out there for working with vector graphics. All features you need in a well-known Adobe interface. There are tons of youtube videos if you ever get stock with something.

Cons

It does cost something. If you are working with vector daily it definitely makes sense to pay for the license, otherwise, Inkscape is your next option.

Adobe Illustrator

Requires some tuition but once grasped is easy to use.

Reviewed 6 years ago

The main benefit I get is being able to create graphics from scratch. Also, it is a program I will never feel bored with as I'm constantly discovering new things it can do.

Pros

Having used illustrator for many years I still find new things it can do. It is easy to use but would require some tuition if you have never used similar programs. There are plenty of books and videos available showing how each aspect works.

Cons

The main con is the price especially when there is a free opensource program available -Inkscape. It would also be difficult for a complete beginner to grasp.

Adobe Illustrator

The best vector editing tool

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

Illustrator has been and continues to be the best vector editing and design tool. I have tried Inkscape and other tools but they don't seem to have the compatibility and the features that Illustrator has.

Cons

Can be fairly pricey to use for individual use and since the user interface is so simplified it can be difficult to find the more advanced features you are looking for.

Adobe Illustrator

Too dissimilar (for me) to Adobe Photoshop

Reviewed 5 years ago

If you know Illustrator already, it's a great tool. If you're new in the vector-based world, try Inkscape (free,Open-source) or Sketch (Mac-only, 1-time purchase).

Pros

I like having a vector-based product available in the Adobe CC suite.

Cons

Having been a long-time Photoshop user, I found the tools in Illustrator to be extremely clunky and dissimilar compared to PS. I have tried multiple times over the years to use it because I prefer vector-based to raster for ease of scalability. But so many of the shortcut keys are different or absent that I have never been able to use it productively. I think Adobe takes for granted that most Illustrator...

Adobe Illustrator

For serious graphic artists

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, I've been able to create amazing logos from Illustrator as well as original art. It may not be my favorite program to go to due to its learning curve, but really, I have not used anything that compared to the quality.

Pros

The big upside with Adobe Illustrator is that you can create vectors from scratch which makes it perfect for logo design and developing original graphics. I tried using Inkscape in my past, and it didn't cut the mustard.

Cons

It's not very user-friendly. I had used Photoshop longer and was able to get the hang of it without too much stress. Conversely, Adobe Illustrator's interface is more confusing, it's difficult to know what does what, and the ease of use just isn't there. In my opinion, it's for someone serious about graphic design. I hope in the years ahead, they help transform Illustrator to become a better place for beginners to advanced artists.

Adobe Illustrator

The industry standard vector graphics editor

Reviewed 5 years ago

Adobe Illustrator fills a gap in our creative pipeline for editing and creating vector art. I use it as I have an Adobe Creative Cloud license, though if I didn't I'd probably look at using InkScape.

Pros

Illustrator tools are useful and precise for creating custom typefaces and vector graphics. If you're already paying for the Adobe Suite, it's a great tool to have whenever you need to edit vector art files.

Cons

From time to time when I'm working up close on font faces, points will snap to unexpected places off the grid, even with strict grid snapping set. This can be annoying when you're working on precise art.

It is great

Reviewed 7 years ago

It's quite possibly the best vector editing program in existence.

Pros

Illustrator is simply the most powerful vector art program available (as far as I know...). There may be other options like Inkscape, but there's nothing that compares to the features and function of Illustrator. Bite the bullet and get the genuine article.

Adobe Illustrator

Hard to learn but useful to have

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

I like how Illustrator mainly designs in vector files. I often lasercut foam airplanes and it's very often that I need to edit the plans to make them work on the laser. The basics are easy to use and are what most people need in a vector program.

Cons

While Illustrator has many features it can be very confusing and time consuming at times. The cost also compounds that as simpler programs such as Inkscape can accomplish the basics in Illustrator and can be aquired at a much lower cost.

Adobe Illustrator

Best vector illustration program on the market

Reviewed 5 years ago

There's a reason Illustrator still holds the throne when it comes to vector illustration and graphic design work, and has become my go-to for personal projects as well. Inkscape can't even begin to hold a candle to it.

Pros

Illustrator is very easy to learn once you understand how it differs from Photoshop, and is very easy to work with as well.

Cons

At first, Illustrator seems completely backwards compared to Photoshop and it can be a bit confusing to complete beginners.

Adobe Illustrator

Professional-grade vector software that isn't worth using for the price.

Reviewed 6 years ago

Once you know where the tools are and how they work, and how the interface behaves, it's fast to just pick your tablet and create complex illustrations on it. Otherwise, however, I prefer something like Affinity or Inkscape for making your vector-works.

Pros

Pretty feature-rich, with the capacity to create many kinds of illustrations and graphics in the way one wants. Quite a lot of toolsets to work with. Good pen-pressure support. Good for making comics. The Fill-tool is pretty convenient, creating vertex points in comparison to other softwares.

Cons

Buggy. Unintuitive, with tools being pretty hard to find or taking up too much space when open for access. Lack of Linux support. But then again, the price as well as the subscription model also keeps me away because I can just as easily rely on other alternatives to get the same job done. Also, Inkscape's trace Bitmap feature is better.
