Pros

This software has the great advantage to be completely free and having the capacity to integrate other free and powerful APIs.
Inkscape surprised me positively for the number of features and more, for being free and for having open source. Creating knots, curves and modifying the lines is super easy and simple to use.
This software is so powerful, it's like a nuclear missile. I love what you can draw with it - literally anything.

Pros

It is an excellent piece of software I recommended to all of my colleagues and they are very happy with it. I can definitely recommend Affinity Designer, you will not regret buying it.
They were not only the best, but the most human and kind. And that is the kind of company I want to give my money to.
Wonderful program, easy to use, great in connection with the two other programs from Affinity, superlow price. I'm so happy I discovered these programs from Affinity.

Cons

The only problem I have had with this software is its weakness in exporting formats compatible with Latex.
It's hard for me to find something to dislike about Inkscape. I'd only say that it could use some tweaks in the interface itself, especially in the dark theme.
No option to see colors are print or screen-friendly. Inkscape lags behind premium vector graphic options.

Cons

The layers functionality was confusing. No auto trace which was the huge disappointment for us.
A few, very few, features that I would expect in a high-grade design program are missing or difficult to use.
A little confusing initially mostly because transitioning from other software.

Migliore SVG nativo Open Source

Reviewed 2 years ago

Free alternative to Illustrator

Pros

Inkscape has many features and is a pretty decent *free* alternative to Adobe Illustrator. I prefer to use other programs like Illustrator and Affinity Designer, but if you are looking for a free program, Inkscape is quite ok.

Cons

The program is not so intuitive to use and, for me, had a steep learning curve. I often had to search for tutorials to accomplish what I needed to do.

Great for free software, not feature complete

Reviewed 4 years ago

Inkscape is a great option, especially if you are a Linux user or a big open source supporter. It has great text support and general shape manipulation. The updated renderer is much improved but still lags behind most other native vector software.

Pros

Inkscape being free and open source is a huge upside. The interface is configurable and theme-able, but looks decent without modification. It supports all of my expected basic operations, and has a good workflow from ideas to export.

Cons

There are quite a few features that are found in most vector software, such as Affinity Designer or Adobe Illustrator. Some operations take a bit of time to do manually, and the performance (though improved recently) is not great.

If you really need a completely free vector app, this is it

Reviewed 5 years ago

If I absolutely could not access Adobe Illustrator or even Affinity Designer, Inkscape would be an acceptable solution - it does the job, just not with nearly the smooth intuitive feel I need to work quickly without frustration.

Pros

It has plenty of power to work with vector files, an absolute necessity for creating scalable, high-quality images for signage, logo design, etc.

Cons

Nearly everything. The interface is SO clunky. Completely non-intuitive. It's complicated and weird to figure out how to export the file formats you need.

Inkscape is a great Vector designing tool

Reviewed 2 years ago

Shape designer tools like that present in Illustrator would have been a good addition. But otherwise there not much of downside to the software. It is a great software and highly recommended. The interface seems a bit dated but the functionalities on offer make up for it.

Pros

The software is Free and offers great value and functionality. It offers powerful vector editing capabilities at par with other paid softwares in the market. It is not resource heavy and cross platform compliant and can be installed on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Cons

The interface could have been better. And also absence of shape designer tool can be a drawback.

It works, but could be better,

Reviewed 5 years ago

I'm happy that I'm able to use Inkscape on a PC for my needs, but I do find it lacking compared to the well-heeled market leader (Adobe) and the spiffy newcomer (Affinity Design).

Pros

I like that Inkscape works well for vinyl cutting and laser cutting purposes.

Cons

I'm not pleased that the Mac version does not really work. They say it works, but if you cannot get Macports running on your system (the software that makes PC software work on a Mac), then you are kind of out of luck. This shows a lack of polish that is really evident throughout.

This is a cost effective solution for graphic design for the end user. At home or professional, Inkscape will work for you.

Pros

The price and functionality are great. Inkscape functions well and doesn't take up much storage space as other designer products.

Cons

Beware, Inkscape updates can be tricky due to the amount updates from Apple but its a chance you take. The software for OS is solid but sometimes you need to avoid updates until Inkscape can catch up.

Powerful Design Tool

Reviewed 2 years ago

Inkscape was the first design software I used when I started learning design. It took me a while to figure it out, but now I love the software because you can create so many cool designs. I´ve converted many images to vectors. It was of great help. Big thanks to the creators.

Pros

All the features the software offers. From creating vector shapes, freehand, text fonts, and text features. It´s insane that such powerful software is free of charge.

Cons

The platform is complex, and its quite a learning curve if you are a beginner designer. Luckily there are lots of free YouTube tutorials on Inkscape.

Great software for 90% of users needs

Reviewed 3 years ago

I am not a professional graphics designer. But have the need to create images or logos occasionally. This meets 100% of my needs without question.

Pros

Being able to use it without any cost obviously lowers the barrier to entry. However, after having used Inkscape for a little while the functionality is what really makes this a must have piece of software. Maybe some users need to use the Adobe equivalent but unless you need it for your job I would guess you are fine using Inkscape.

Cons

Overall there is a learning curve (the same as there would be with any new software). Some users may just already be used to Adobe and not want to change.

Great, even for beginners.

Pros

I am not a graphic designer; I am a coach. I need and want to create materials for my coachee on my own (cards, images stimulating reflections, and solutions). Inkscape offers me the possibility to make all of this. It hasn't been too hard to learn the basics and create satisfying working materials. I appreciate the community that supports the newbies in learning. There are many tutorials, and the manual is well-done and organized.

Cons

At the moment, for the use that I do, I can't find negative aspects! Yes, it takes time to learn because I am not a professional graphic designer, but this is a process required for me.

Best free vector based graphics software

Reviewed 5 years ago

It allowed us to create a professional, vector based logo for use on any item for absolutely free. Inkscape has been amazing

Pros

It is a truly powerful vector based software that is free to use and will allow you to do almost everything that others that can cost hundreds or thousands do. It is truly a remarkable program that can turn you into a professional designer.

Cons

The interface is quite tough to learn. This is definitely Inkscape's biggest downside. The UX isn't intuitive and although it can do everything (or most) of what paid programs can, it is a lot more difficult to do and can end up costing you a lot of time learning and trying to get your drawing or project just right.

Inkscape: A free, feature-rich program for vector graphics and text

Reviewed 3 years ago

Inkscape has helped me design my own t-shirts, and by importing my own photos and fonts, I've made a number of different album covers for my music projects. Inkscape has saved me the expense of hiring a graphic designer, and I highly recommend it.

Pros

Besides the fact that it's free, I like how you can use layer to create visual projects in Inkscape. The program allows you to draw, paint, and add text to images just like Corel Draw, and the program offers a number of different filters to process photographs with. Fonts can be imported into Inkscape from external sources, giving the user unlimited ability to create everything from album covers to t-shirt art, flyers, illustrations and much more.

Cons

I think Inkscape would work best on newer computers, as my laptop is older and sometimes there's lag time when the program is trying to process my images.

1.0 Version Much Improved

Reviewed 4 years ago

I have been looking for quite awhile for a replacement for my Adobe Fireworks graphics program. I needed a tool that allowed me to easily manipulate graphics and create new content with ease. I'm not a graphics designer, so I don't need the power and complexity of Photoshop or Gimp, but something that will allow me to do some basic graphics manipulation with ease. Inkscape fits this need well. I also wanted something multiplatform since I work primarily on a Mac with an Ubuntu machine as my alternate. Inkscape runs great on each.

Pros

I like the fact that I can insert basic shapes and manipulate existing images with relative ease. I'm a developer (not designer) so I do get artwork created by others that needs manipulating. Inkscape allows me to resize, reformat and do basic image manipulation with ease.

Cons

I was using the beta 1.0 version previously and am happy to see the release of the official 1.0 version for the Mac that resolved a bunch of issues. I would welcome a more feature rich "magic wand" tool to select objects and be able to manipulate image boundaries. The software is powerful although with power comes complexity at times.

Vector Logos and Patterns

Reviewed 3 years ago

I can create logos for companies very quickly. By learning the keyboard shortcuts you will be able to navigate round the menu super fast. Also, this works well with my touch screen which I never thought I would use until now.

Pros

As a designer one of the best features is to import something which you find inspirational and be able to trace the outline for your first design layer. From there, you have the ability to smooth out better than the original import and create new shapes, colours and angles very quickly.

Cons

The help menu is not great and I found myself looking in Google for most of my help. However, Inkscape's online help and tutorial site is quite comprehensive and guides you based on your knowledge level.

Does the job when on an emergency, a good enough 'b plan'

I wound up only coming back to inkscape as a second option, either when I needed to edit images on the go or when on someone else's older computer. I would recommend it to a colleague who is not a professional artist or designer, or who has an old computer, but not otherwise.

Pros

Lightweight image editor, runs well even on older/weaker machines, never actually crashed or currupted files for me

Cons

Has only niche usefulness when compared to other image editing softwares, and this does not justify the need to learn a whole new different way to work, which Inkscape requires

The use of Inkscape.

Reviewed a month ago

Since I am predominantly a Linux user this program works well for me. I have used Adobe illustrator in windows on certain projects and I get just the same clean crisp duck with you could get it is much lighter on your resources so it performs faster the learning curve is very small I suggest that you actually graphic designer try it.

Pros

My experience using Inkscape started about 11 years ago I did not have the money to pay for Adobe illustrator being a graphic designer I needed a tool that would give me the same functionality. as Adobe illustrator in my use of Inkscape I found that it had several features that Adobe illustrator lacked such as plugins that would allow you to do tracing and a lot more, I have enjoyed using it I think it is a very professional piece of software. Also, the learning curve is much lower than Adobe illustrator you can open up the program and give right to work.

Cons

The cons of using Inkscape I have found are very few 1 is that when opening up a program Inkscape does not have tabs in its layout so if you start a new project it opens up a totally new window. I myself prefer layout of tabs it is a much cleaner look and it does not clutter up your desktop.

Pros

I enjoy the UI/UX of Inkscape as I've steadily learned its features over the past several years to become a somewhat dangerous novice graphic designer. Its icon buttons for various functionality makes for an easy learning curve. If you take 5 minutes out of your day to learn one new feature each week, you'll toss your Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop license out the window in a couple months' time.

Cons

In an Apple OS, you are required to download a secondary software connector to use this.

Affinity Designer

A great alternative to Adobe Illustrator

Reviewed 2 years ago

I switched to affinity designer from Adobe Illustrator. I would occasionally use AI to do vector work for graphic design or logotype, but the subscription was barely paying for itself. Switching to Affinity Designer allowed me to stop worrying about the financial side of my software, and it proved itself a very capable alternative to AI. Turns out I also much prefer it's UI as well. Nowadays it's main use is to make SVG shapes to import to Blender and Alibre CAD, though I still use it for occasional vector graphic design as well. It meets my needs and then some. I'm very happy with it. Great application, 10/10

Pros

Affordable Perpetual License Plan Very strong feature set, comparable to Adobe Illustrator Intuitive and easy to use UI, in my opinion less confusing than Illustrators UI Decent .AI and .PSD import (If saved with compatibility checkbox)

Affinity Designer

I used Affinity Designer during the open beta, and as a trial. It really is great software.

I still love Affinity. I believe it is worth every penny, especially with no background in Adobe. Keep up the great work!

Pros

Price. You can't beat a one-time purchase. That is the biggest selling point of this software. I currently subscribe to Adobe CC, and actively looking for ways to switch.

Cons

Learning Curve. I can't even begin to talk about the learning curve involved. [Inkscape] has less of a learning curve, and it is free. The Affinity team needs to work on their keyboard shortcuts and improve them.

Affinity Designer

The adobe KILLER! Finally a vector graphics software that doesn't require a subscription

Reviewed 6 years ago

Affinity Designer is a powerful tool that is easy to use, even for beginners.

Pros

Affinity Designer is the best vector graphics authoring platform I have used. I have used Illustrator for years and even tried open source options like GIMP and Inkscape. Affinity allows me to take existing .ai files, import them, edit and export in a variety of formats. Best of all, its a one time fee .

Cons

The ONLY feature this program is missing is Live Trace, and frankly, live trace is the only reason I still have Illustrator installed

Full power of creativity for and decent price

Overall I can designs faster in this software than Illustrator, finally I can work with something similar to inkscape that can work with CMYK but this one is faster than both adobe and free products, I think is the best bang for your buck for working with vectors.

Pros

- You can create and handle CMYK documents. - The user interface is extremely simple which makes it easy to pick up and learn it. - You can save files on different drives and you are capable of performing live updates on the storage file. - You have the option to generate procedural vectors and self created as well. - The effects and alterations on your designs are extremely fast, the refreshing is...

Cons

- You do not have the access to all of the Adobe programs like Premiere, Dream weaver, After effects, etc. - The tools it has are not as convenient as the shape builder form the competitor.

Affinity Designer

Better than I expected

Reviewed 4 years ago

I saw ads for the Affinity suite in the past, but always dismissed them as one of those half-baked knock-offs of photoshop that like to rope you in with "free"trials that don't let you save your files or something. Turns out I was very wrong! Affinity Designer and Publisher are both legitimate and very good pieces of software. They are feature rich, have some innovative features that aren't seen in...

Pros

Coming from Illustrator, it's very easy to adapt to, just minor differences in some workflows, but mostly it's intuitive. It can open and edit Illustrator files if they are pdf compatible, even deal with complex things like knockout groups correctly. It's also has some great ideas that I was pleasantly surprised by that made the workflow better and faster. Affinity devs listen to user feedback and regularly update their apps, so any features that it lacks it will probably get soon.

Cons

Lack of a good font manager, it just takes the fonts you have installed in your OS. No Google fonts integration or anything like Adobe Fonts, so if you're missing fonts you have to manually find them online and (buy or) download them the old-fashioned way. Some odd workflow choices, minor things that can slow you down. Like no native way to permanently reset the bounding box of an object after it has been rotated, they have a toggle that works for 1 operation and switches back to the (skewed or rotated) original. The align UI and the order of actions to chose what to align to what is strange and can waste time. Other minor things like that that I ran into, but all in all it works well and gets the job done.
