Linux Mint overview

What is Linux Mint?

Linux Mint is an operating system, which enables businesses to run a variety of free and open-source applications. It provides long-term support (LTS) releases, which lets users maintain a stable release of computer software for longer durations than the standard edition.

The Linux distribution system allows software developers to share source codes with other users and close networking ports using a firewall system. Linux Mint helps administrators detect other operating systems and create a boot menu to streamline system booting processes. Professionals can use the package manager to download additional software by adding a source to the source file in the system directory.

Linux Mint offers a variety of pre-installed applications such as LibreOffice, Pidgin, Thunderbird, Firefox, HexChat, VLC media player, Transmission, and more. The platform is available in the form of an ISO file, enabling users to make a bootable DVD or USB stick.

“If it weren't for the lack of availability of certain software packages crucial to my line of work, I genuinely would have switched to Mint as my main OS.”
