Speare overview

What is Speare?

The big challenge with writing is capturing and organizing all your ideas as you write. Speare helps you find your big idea and helps you develop it out with greater flexibility and freedom.

Key benefits of using Speare

Whenever you sit down with the goal to write, you're starting with a basic concept in mind and among other things tangential and potentially random ideas. Although these ideas may not turn out to be the big idea you set out to communicate, they are a great place to start. With the following natural process, you'll soon see how you'll be able to filter the best ideas to the top, find your big idea, and merge it seamlessly into a document that clearly communicates your main points. Here are some subprocesses you'll experience in a very natural way:

Flow: your ideas guide you as they become encapsulated in building blocks as you write.

Split: when you see diverging ideas or a bottleneck, you'll naturally want to split the content off into its own thread and you'll experience more freedom to move the idea forward.

Filter: your best ideas will generally come into view in their respective threads as you position boards in the workspace.

Focus: zero your writing in on the ideas until they no longer diverge or bottleneck and they become complete parts in and of themselves.

Title: carefully consider the captions for the ideas expressed in the boards as they are potential headings for the outline.

Outline: arrange the board titles in the outline as they should logically be presented.

Manage: toggle board visibility to remove extemporaneous content and nest content as necessary.

Merge: toggle to document view to merge the ideas together into a document.

Navigate: explore the navigation of your document to see if it logically flows and exposes your main points.

Review: add markdown to format your document for easy reading, revise and edit your document where necessary.

Again, the bullet points above are not steps in a process, rather subprocesses that in and of themselves are available to the writer in a natural way as the UI exposes them. It's the ability to freely move between these steps that enables you to turn the writing process into a superpower that works with your strengths.

For example, if you are generally predisposed to writing a single draft without an outline, the UI will naturally expose the outline to you so that you begin organizing ideas in it without hardly noticing it. If you prefer to just sit down and flow and only slow down as content builds, you'll naturally separate the content into separate threads and zero in on the content that needs to be fleshed out. New patterns will emerge that you be able to explore and turn into powerful processes that allow you to turn writing into a superpower.
