Will never revert back to Google Classroom!
Much easier to navigate and personalize than Google Classroom. Gives all aspects of managing content as well as very detailed analytics of students use and progress.
I have not found anything that I cannot do with this product. At times there is a learning curve, but there are plenty of resources to find how to do things.

It was a great tool while I was still a teacher and I would recommend for others.
I loved that canvas served as a primary hub for my students when I was in the classroom.
It took awhile to get adjusted to after leaving Google Classroom

Ability to upload assignments, work, resources, videos, and assessments into discrete modules. Quite user friendly. Can easily transfer previous classes and departmental shells.
Love this as my LMS. At times I like this better than Google Classroom.

No benefits. Please encourage your teachers to use Google Classroom.
We found no pros. Everything could be accomplished in Google Classroom. Canvas was just an added hurdle to online learning.
Canvas made online learning torture. All of the other classes streamline with Google Classroom. The added complication of Canvas makes the online learning unapproachable. Figuring out how to open an assignment, complete it, and turning it in is a complete headache for the student. This is especially challenging for students with needs.

Very positive, many features that Google classroom is missing.
This is a standard for learning management systems in Kansas, it is used by many institutions this helps students adjust to other schools and higher education.
Links to Skyward system can cause errors, typically the issues honestly seem on Skyward more than Canvas

This had more features than using Google Classroom which was nice.
What I liked the most about using Canvas as a teacher is that once I frontloaded the assignments, readings, quizzes, videos, and tests, I was able to provide a work at your own pace environment for my classroom. This enabled the classroom to be a flipped classroom of sorts and have students work on things in class instead of the traditional sense of homework. I think that this gives students the ability to learn in different ways.
The hardest part wasn't really with the software but with the time it takes to frontload everything. There could be easier ways to go about this but I am not sure what it would be.

I love the quality of the final product. It looks so professionally made when I am done creating!! The added bonus....I got it free since I am a teacher!!
I really like the many options this program gives me as a teacher. I can make worksheets, certificates, Google Classroom banners....the opportunities are endless. I can also directly post worksheets right to Google Classroom!! WOW!!
This program takes some time and effort to figure out how to use its features like adding font, pictures, and files, a bit cumbersome at first!

I have been using CANVAS this year instead of Google Classroom. I like that I can organize everything upfront.
I like that it is easy to post assignments. I also like that I can see the assignments that are turned in and give feedback through the program easily.
The only thing I can think of was that there was a bit more of a learning curve for my students than I thought there would be.

I used CANVAS in the first school district that I worked in. At the time, it was fine. I didn't utilize it to post much because it wasn't the smoothest system to use. It wasn't until I moved to a district that used Google Classroom that I realized how bad the experience actually was. Google Classroom is 100 times easier and more intuitive to use.
I liked the ability to use the Calendar to push notifications out to the students.
It wasn't very intuitive or easy to create assignments.

Canvas, while a good software that integrates very well with other programs like Dropbox or Google Drive, also has it's downsides. Students using this program can be easily confused by the complex layout of the LMS. All in all, the program can and should be used in classroom environments, but some complex features should be explained by the instructor.
Canvas when used by a teacher is a very useful program with lots of options. Compared to alternatives like Google Classroom, Canvas has a lot of customizability in how a virtual "classroom" looks or feels. For example, teachers can make exciting home pages that have personality, which many other LMS softwares simply can't do.
While Canvas is a good experience for the teacher, the students using them can often be lead to dislike the program. Many things that are good for teachers like the ability to make modules separate from assignments backfires on the students using them. These customizability options can often lead to confusing pages with hidden assignments, causing lots of frustration that could be easily avoided by using more simple alternatives like Google Classroom.

I could not run my classroom without Canvas. It is the most powerful tool in my classroom toolbox.
Canvas is an incredibly robust Learning Management System. It provides invaluable tools for educators such as quizzes, discussion boards, and excellent course management tools. The most useful for me is the quizzes. Quizzes can be auto-graded, have controlled access, allow multiple attempts and has a large array of question types for your students.
Canvas does have a bit of a learning curve. It can be a bit daunting for those just starting out. This makes the product slightly unapproachable but there are a lot of tutorials for the common features.

As a teacher having technology like this to organize the entire class and all the resources is great both for the teacher and the students
The ability to use add-ons is great (but still relatively limited). The ability to export classes between organizations is great. Integration of assignments, turn in, grading, quizzes is great.
Organization of classes can only be done by an administrator so that means that as a teacher I cannot use if for clubs/events/etc. Google classroom works comparably for free. Errors in connection to gradebook often.

Overall, it gets the job done for an online course or to have your assignments and grades in one place. It is not perfect in the grading or user interface, but you can complete your class just fine. It is the most common virtual classroom too for higher education (besides maybe Google Classroom, but usually younger levels use that).
Schools provide it for free to run courses. All of your curriculumn, syllabus, assignments, and whatever else the professor would like to include is in one place, which is nice, and you can even receive grades.
The interface is not the most visually appealing. It looks like a beginner website. I have used Canvas for years, and have always wanted a sleeker, more professional looking website.

Overall, I think that Canvas is a useful tool for students and helps facilitate online components of classroom education. I like the way that the classroom is laid out by week, and extra resources and assignments can always be found on the site.
The product is good for facilitating and organizing school schedules. The layout helps make sense of school assignments and schedules. Using the layout is easy for students of all ages.
The live classroom streaming is not ideal. You cannot see other members of the classroom while on Canvas classes, which makes it difficult to focus. The teacher can see student pictures, but the student cannot see others.

It is very good. And it helps very well to download all classroom materials properly as it provides a folder option. Also, it is great since we can directly comment and have some kind of a chat with a lecturer in charge of the particular course.
It's easier to use and most importantly it has newly updated functions available. Students can very easily access their classroom materials and it creates a very good outside classroom environment.
Sometimes, when uploading the classroom materials, it makes some issues. And students can't access those files. Some lecturers are facing these issues often. They can not put their files in the folders as the system does not allow them to do that even though they have all the administrative rights and all.

Overall, a good system for simple file uploads and homework submission.
Basic, simple, and easy to use learning platform for students, especially in K-12. Comes standard with typical educational google accounts, which makes it an easy integration.

Google Classroom does the trick and helps get your message across, but it's really nothing special. If you have the budget, invest in Canvas instead where you can really customize the experience.
I've used google classroom in my classes in the past and one now. It gives you the basic feartures you need to have an online class platform, but nothing more. You can post documents, have discussion threads, and have dropboxes for students to turn in work.
As I mentioned, this software covers the bare minimum. It's free so it's a good option for a low budget, but it has far fewer capabilities than Blackboard and Canvas do. If you are looking for any functionality above the basics, this is not the classroom management tool for you.

Much like other google products, for free it isn't a bad program. Other software offers more features however it will cost.
With Google Apps for Education Google Classroom is a solid free online platform for our teachers to use. While we do use Canvas for most everything, we have some teachers that still use Classroom because of ease of access.
It can be a little muddy for new staff members to get use to how Classroom sets up and making assignments.

Teachers loved how easy it was to use, and how it links up. Parents also thought it was easier to use as well which is a plus.
Like all google products very intuitive and pretty easy to use. I have very few support issues with this software for fellow teachers. Teachers seemed to love using it and was easy to assign class work and Test. They loved how it links up with the rest of the google software and google drive. Big surprise there but worth mentioning.
Teachers never had any complaints with the software other than it didn’t link up with their grade book software like Canvas does but it just wasn’t setup for that. Not sure if it can be done.

Google Classroom is currently making is possible for students across the nation to attend classes remotely while "safer at home" due to the emergency order initiated as a remedy for COVID-19. Students are able to interact with their teachers, peers, and submit assignments as well as improve their grades, all from the comfort of their own homes.
Depending on what type of academic setting you are, (i.e. elementary, middle school, high school, college, graduate study, etc.) CANVAS or Moodle may be more practical. It all depends on what functions will be used most.

I like that Google Classroom is easy to set up and use, much easier than Canvas. I like that assignments can be made and then viewed once the student completes and submits it. It's a nice and easy system to use.
I didn't really have anything that I didn't like, but since a "Con" is required, I would say that setting up assignments can be a little tricky. Figuring out what has been completed by a student took a little figuring out, but it wasn't difficult.

It's great for starting teachers and school but when you get serious with wanting kids to learn, you need to move to something else and pay for a good LMS if your school is serious about preparing kids for college. Kids do not use Classroom in college. They do use Canvas.
It's easy to use. And its' free. And that is great. Easy to post content and easy to grade it. Easy to pull student in if you are a Google school.
The list is long. It is not a true LMS. It make getting access to data super hard. Analytics? Good luck? Learning data? Nope. Unfortunately its so easy that most teachers will sacrifice learning opportunities to use it because it's the "free" tool or that is what schools push because it is free. Integration with outside platforms is not great. There are so many limitations when compared to something like Canvas.

It is an excellent tool for middle school or high school classrooms where technology is commonly utilized, however for higher education it would be best to implement premium, similar software.
It is an easy way for teachers to implement an "electronic classroom", in the sense that they can have assignments handed in online, send announcements, etc. On top of this, it is free, making it an excellent choice for teachers in systems that don't use/mandate other similar, more expensive options(such as Moodle or Canvas).
While it is free software, it is also quite bare-bones. There are very limited options outside of text announcements and assignment hand-in. Beyond this, any file formats outside of Google products (Docs, Slides, etc.) don't play nice with the service.
