Ease of Use

2018-02-15

Ease of use when importing content from Blackboard and Moodle learning management platforms.

Pros

Ability to import content from existing learning management systems, such as Blackboard and Moodle is a very nice feature.

Cons

As with all new software platforms, it will take some time to learn how to use features but is not overly complicated.

Love using Canvas!

2018-05-06

Love using Canvas! Makes submitting assignments so easy.

Pros

We went from Moodle to Canvas and it was the best day ever!

Cons

I have yet to have problems working with Canvas! It's seriously worth the money. The free programs are not worth the money saved when you can have something as awesome as this!

Canvas as a student user

2019-02-01

Compared to Moodle, I like Canvas much better.

Pros

. - Interaction with other students I think this is what differentiates Canvas from moodle and what I have used in the past.

Cons

Canvas is not perfect though if you are not an expert user or instructor. - Many times instructors said the contents are released but it wasn't - The grades accumulation does not always makes sense - Very much dependent on how the instructor has laid out contents. - Redundant information - Not always user friendly. Does take a while to get adjusted to it

I love this LMS

2018-08-28

I have worked with multiple LMS platforms building courses like Blackboard, Moodle, and proprietary systems and found Canvas to be the easiest to use for instructional designers, faculty, and students.

Pros

It's very, very user friendly. So easy to create and edit courses in this LMS. I also love the informative faculty and student knowledge bases they have.

Cons

I can't think of any cons of this software.

Excellent. Easy. Simple. Glad my university switched to it

2018-03-12

Pros

The university I take online classes through switched to Canvas from Moodle. I find it very easy to use, very easy to communicate with instructors, easy to submit assignments, and communicate with classmates.

Cream of the Crop

2017-02-07

I have used Moodle, Blackboard, BrainHoney, D2L and Canvas.

Pros

The user interface is clean, customizable and easy to learn and use. The employees at Instructure care about the product and are willing to listen and make improvements.

Cons

It doesn't offer as many features as other Learning Management Systems on the market and there are times you will be limited on what you can do. While LTI integrations are possible there are times they still need a little work to become more ingrained in education.

Great for college students.

2018-11-14

Pros

My university was previously using Moodle, however I was not a big fan of it.

Cons

The messaging/mailing system is a bit poor. I believe it could be reworked a bit, such as adding customization to font choice and text color. I also think the discussion forum needs fixing because I find navigating it somewhat confusing.

BEST LMS out there, no matter your institution!!

2015-09-22

Pros

As a small university, with less than 1000 FTE, when it was time to switch LMS's (from Moodle), I was looking for a company that would treat us as if we were a large institution and prioritize our needs - Canvas was definitely the answer!

Cons

There are no major dislikes that I can see. There are a few things about the UI that I would like to change, but it is a democratic process on Canvas Commons, and I don't always go with the crowd on updates - but that's okay. With the open source API, I can customize Canvas to almost any degree that I want.

Make sure you take a look at the helpdesk. We pay for Tier 1 Support (the highest level), which has allowed us to cut significant costs without providing an onsite helpdesk for Canvas. It has been worth every penny, and the customer satisfaction is even higher than we could provide with an in-house solution. If you can afford the Tier 1 Support - it will pay for itself in no time!

This is the new grading/class organization software for my school. It has some great functions.

2018-03-19

Organization and the ability to stay up to date on upcoming assignments.

Pros

In the past I have used Blackboard and Moodle for my grades/school software but Canvas is what my school is switching too and the IT team has given us an orientation.

Cons

The layout is nothing new. I'm not sure if the color schemes are customize-able, I would assume they are, but the one my school has chosen is a bit bland. It is a simple layout and besides the color scheme, which is over analyzing as it is, there is not much that one can not like about the software.
