This is my second (and will be my LAST) year using ProConnect Tax Online. After the first year I had numerous software-related problems and struggled with inadequate and untrained software support. I was assured that this very issue had been addressed by Intuit for the 2018 filing season, and was talked into giving PTO another try. So far, I do not see any changes from last year, and will not be returning to PTO for the 2019 filing season.
The software is very much like Intuit's more powerful and robust program Lacerte. It is fairly user-friendly, making it easy to just pick up and use without going through tutorials or training.
Software support personnel are not provided with any training related to tax law or basic tax return preparation, which makes for a frustrating experience as a tax professional. When consulting with support to assist with software and program issues, they give incorrect advice which does not align with the tax laws.

The software is easy to use and a quick setup solution if you need something to file quickly or to look at planning options for a client.
ProConnect is easy to use, especially if you are familiar with Lacerte products. It offers a straightforward workflow with a table of contents that is grouped by area. It connects to QuickBooks Online to make return creation and import of trial balances easy.
Some inputs like depreciation are hard to get to and don't line up with the rental or business sections in the individual software. The cost isn't as low as some other options for even a small number of returns.

I have no issues with the functionality. It actually works nicely and has steadily improved over the years
ATTENTION USERS!!!!!! THEY JUST STARTED CHARGING FOR PRIOR YEAR TAX RETURNS. PRIOR YEARS RETURNS HAD ALWAYS BEEN PROVIDED FOR FREE LIKE ALL OTHER TAX SOFTWARE PROVIDERS. THEY QUIELTYL CHANGED THAT STARTING WITH THE 2019 TAX FILING YEAR. THEY HOPE YOU DON'T NOTICE.

My overall experience is great and I like the integration with Quickbooks so it saves time on manual entries. The pay per return is more expensive if you are not doing a lot of tax returns but it is more efficient than some other tax softwares that I have used.
I like that it imports my Quickbooks online data directly into the tax return. It also imports most W-2's and 1099's so you data entry errors are reduced and saves time.
I feel like the document collection link could be better. When my clients had issues with uploading their documents, I could not help them because I could not see what it looked like on their side.

Earlier accessing all client accounts at once place and integrating the same with verified calculations was a tedious task. However, with ProConnect tax this issue is resolved and it serves as a genie for all your and your client tax needs at one place. The ease of execution is commendable.
The interface is very good and calculations are accurate. It incorporates various time saving features like Docusign/8879 e-signature, K-1 import etc. Further detailed worksheets are available to understand the exact calculations. Its a time saver and best tax cal buddy in the available segment.
The pricing is a bit on a higher side and compared to it's competitors it seems costly. Further a better customer/user support is required. A promt response is what we expect as a user. Some improvement needed.

I wanted a more professional and reliable software option vs just utilizing Turbo Tax, Tax Act, H&R Block, etc. I truly think that if I can find a way to justify the expense, ProConnect will be the choice for me. It is straight-forward yet extensive and allows me to feel like I'm offering a more professional and useful product to my clients.
I appreciate the straight forward and no "fluff" aspect of the software vs other options that are more common like turbo tax and h&r block. Those options hit you with all kinds of unnecessary info and then on top of that if you don't know what you're doing you are liable to miss tax breaks and refund growing credits.
I'm still trying to find a reliable and similar option to ProConnect because I dunno if my small clientele will be enough to justify spending the money to own the software. I would be thrilled if they offered an option that charged per filed return or something along those lines.

For the most part, I have liked the software, but I have found quirks that I have to work around or get past sometimes (like with most Intuit products). I wish it was easier for tax preparers to adjust and fix things on their own without Intuit causing roadblocks. Intuit support with ProConnect has been FAR better than other Intuit products I have used.
I like the search feature so that I can easily find forms. I think it's a very clean software to use.
I think it's not the best for advanced tax returns. I have some business clients with multi-state returns and I don't feel like ProConnect meets those needs well.

I love it. It is very easy to use and user friendly.
I like it that is online, I can access my client's accounts from anywhere, anytime. There is no need to be in the office off season in order to see clients' tax returns.
The only thing I feel needs improvement is the direct deposit window, I would love to have a confirmation line for the account and routing numbers. That way the risk of accidentally typing a wrong number will dramatically decrease.

Software is very easy to use. I am able to save significant time by saving and returning. I am also able to archive old data, making overall use much easier.
Wish there were some easier tools to searching for answers to specific tax questions/criteria as your filling out your forms so you make less mistakes and do not have to backtrack. I also wish the fee was smaller.

Overall, I think this is the best product out there for remote tax preparers and consultants. I love it and accept it for the minimal flaws I've seen. I also know that they are constantly working on updating and improving the software, so complaints are taken seriously.
I LOVE that you can perform tax projections for free before committing to purchasing anything! I also love that it is a cloud software you can access anywhere online and it is super fast. One more thing that is a great feature is the connection to Quickbooks Online so you don't have to enter the P&L by hand! It will pull in the data straight from the software (they talk to eachother!)
All intuit products will randomly log you out without warning or saving your work, so you have to be saving things constantly. I also don't love that you have to pay in bulk based on the amount of clients you expect to have - I'm a new business and don't really know how many clients I'll have yet :(

ProConnect is the best online tax preparation software I think available in the market right now. This professional software has several time saving features including built in Docusign/8879 e-signature, K-1 import, W2 import, and multiple 1099 and 1098 import functions. Very easy functionality to add and remove team members within the practice. Can be accessed from any internet connected device. There are also robust diagnostics which are ran on every return which has saved us time and also helps us prepare the most accurate returns. Easy side-by-side year over year comparison to catch any other mistakes. Detailed worksheets are printed with return to understand how software is calculating things.
They use a hook and bait technique where they lure you in with a very competitive price but then later double and triple the price from what you first paid. Intuit really needs to add a flat pricing structure, especially for smaller firms. I started out paying something like $20-30 per return and this past year they were wanting to charge $90 per return. That is simply not sustainable if someone is wanting to grow their tax practice.

Overall, the software is good value for money, tech support is readily available. Good product overall.
Software has a lot of great features. The functionality is pretty good, however, the Intuit Link can be a bit frustrating at times. Software includes many features designed compliment and encourage a paperless and online (virtual) environment.
There were instances where certain updates appear to result in diminished functionality. particularly with the Intuit Link. There was a time when users could download all client provided documents with one click, a couple upgrades later, that feature was removed. In my opinion, the Intuit Link functionality does not address the fact that our client base includes users who are still not comfortable with technology use. It is not possible to send paperless copies of business returns to clients, this just irks me. Some of the tech support folks need a lot more training in the product, and too many of them do not have any understanding of tax preparation.

My overall experience with Lacerte Tax is that it is very efficient and user friendly. I started using Lacerte as a recent college graduate, and I caught on very quickly to how all of the input screens work. It is also very helpful with all of the diagnostics it provides. This helps you ensure that you are providing accurate information to the IRS.
Lacerte Tax is very user friendly and even easy to use for recent college graduates. I feel like this is very important when you are just learning how to file tax returns. All of the input screens are laid out well as well. One of my favorite features of Lacerte Tax is the diagnostics feature that provides information about things that could be incorrect & also about tax laws, etc. This helps you know that you are filing each tax return as correctly as possible.
My biggest complaint with Lacerte Tax would be all of the updates that it requires & the glitches that happen if not updated when each update is available. However, I realize that these updates are just to ensure that the system is up to date with tax laws, etc.

I don't think there is a better option for tax professionals who also plan and provide services to business and non-profits
This software is better than others near this price range because it has logical and simple input options, and form views, and also provides notes and better diagnostics for accuracy. I also really like its customization options and integration.
Intuit. I really just in general dislike them. They're not as bad as Thompson Reuters but are a close 2nd. Any good software that comes on the market they buy up and ridiculously inflate the price. They also hook you with low-price options and trials and then double the price once you're invested.

Over the years the quality of the support staff has degraded. Some are fantastic but some are severely lacking. If I wasn't so close to retiring I would change to another software company and wish I could go back 30 years and use another company.
After so many years I know what to expect and it's easy to use.
It's very expensive and they don't respond to suggestions. For example, I've made the same suggestion for four years: When printing the client letter I want the client's estimated tax schedule to print but I don't always want the vouchers to print because many of my clients pay electronically. Lacerte has no option to suppress the printing of the vouchers unless you suppress the printing of the estimated tax schedule on the client letter.

Overall it is a great software with lots of amazing features. There are a few glitches that need to be worked out, but it's still a good option for preparing and filing tax returns.
It is easy to find input screens in the software. There is a control totals check to compare data. You can see a comparative to the market sector worksheet which is very useful. Diagnostics are simple to understand and correct.
There are a LOT of updates. I feel like it updates almost every time I login which takes quite a bit of time. Sometimes I get unknown errors and glitches which can be very annoying especially in tax season.

I work with several different software programs each year (ProSeries, Lacerte, TaxAct) and would choose Lacerte over all of them. The few things that Lacerte does much better than the others is the state integration, K-1 export/import and Kiddie tax integration (no separate input needed). The K-1 auto export/import is amazing.
Lacerte does very few changes each year (outside of tax calculations). You can depend on not needing to relearn how to use the product, rely on features, rely on consistent accuracy. This is the best product on the market and the increase in price is worth every penny.
Customization of cover letters, organizers, engagement letters is limited. Works well, just limited.
