ENVI-met overview
What is ENVI-met?
ENVI-met is an interdisciplinary program used to simulate climatological factors in cities. The app creates 3D micromodels for this purpose. ENVI-met has been developed over 30 years for use in urban planning, architecture, and climate research.
ENVI-met simulates the interactions between the climate and the city. The program creates three-dimensional microclimate models with a resolution of 1:10 meters, covering periods of one to five days. Among other things, ENVI-met can simulate short- and long-wave radiation influences, reflections, and multiple reflections. Furthermore, the program maps evaporation and heat flows to show their influence on plants.
Other functions include the calculation of surface and wall temperatures on buildings or roofs. ENVI-met does this using up to three layers of material, which enables greening to be included in the simulation. The program also records water and heat exchanges in the soil, displays trees in three dimensions, and determines biometeorological indices such as mean radiant temperature, PET, or UTCI. ENVI-met uses Python to visualize and evaluate data.
