Complex and costly licensing

82% of reviewers feel negative about Licensing. Users think the licensing structure is confusing and often difficult to navigate, especially with frequent changes and the shift to subscription models. Reviewers say the high cost of licenses, hardware requirements, and renewals can be prohibitive, particularly for smaller organizations. Some users report frustration with trial limitations, renewal processes, and the need for specialized knowledge to manage licensing. They indicate that licensing expenses can sometimes outweigh hardware costs, making budgeting and long-term planning challenging.

Sluggish and incomplete web client

52% of reviewers feel negative about the Web Client. Users think the web-based management interface is slower and less robust than previous desktop clients, often experiencing lag, crashes, and incomplete feature sets. Reviewers say reliance on outdated technologies like Flash and inconsistent browser support create usability issues. Some users report that the transition away from the traditional client has led to frustration due to missing features, sluggish performance, and a clunky navigation experience, making daily management tasks more cumbersome.

High and unpredictable pricing

Team Lead

The biggest issue with Vsphere, by far, is the remodelling of their pricing and licensing structure. Since Broadcom purchased the vendor, they have narrowed their desired client-base to a fraction of their existing market, meaning that many small and medium enterprises are left in a very difficult situation, having to choose between switching to less mature technologies, or choosing to maintain their current stack at significantly hiked price margins.

70% of reviewers feel negative about Pricing. Users say vSphere’s overall cost is steep, with additional expenses for advanced features and support. Reviewers indicate that recent changes in pricing models, especially after acquisitions, have made the product less accessible for small and medium businesses. They find that the need to purchase separate packages for desired features further increases costs. Some users report that the high price point and complicated tier structures make it difficult to justify the investment compared to alternative solutions.

Comprehensive datacenter virtualization

97% of reviewers feel positive about Cloud and Datacenter capabilities. Users think vSphere enables them to consolidate physical servers, streamline IT management, and improve flexibility in their datacenter operations. Reviewers appreciate the centralized management via vCenter, integration with third-party tools, and the ability to support both private and hybrid cloud environments. They say it helps reduce downtime, optimize resource usage, and provides a robust foundation for cloud computing. Some reviewers find that vSphere’s ecosystem and features make it the preferred choice for managing complex virtual infrastructures across multiple sites.

keeping downtime minimal and providing reliable infrastructure management and uptime helps VMWare and Vsphere sit comfortably at the head of the table, especially when discussing on-premise (non cloud) virtualisation options.

Administrator

You can easily add new hard drive storage to Servers or edit the RAM. With templates you can add new Server rlly fast and implement them in your environment.

ICT Infrastructure Manager

vSphere is the most known, stable and used hypervisor OS; we use it in every site for both general purpose server infrastructures and VDI solutions.

Vsphere overall remains in my opinion the industry leader in enterprise virtualisation, and absolutely still sets the standard that others are mesaured against.

Director Academic Analytics and Feedbacks

My overall experience with vSphere is that it's a highly capable and feature-rich virtualization platform that excels in enterprise environments but comes with some challenges that may impact smaller or less experienced organizations.

As a result these competitors are receiving more funding and seem to be catching up much faster than previous years (Hyper-V, Nutanix, Openshift, etc)

Engineer

vSphere servers the purpose of managing and controlling multiple VMs in an environment setup.

Systems Engineer III

vSphere is powerful and versatile virtualiztion platform that offers robust features and high performance.

System Engineer Infrastructure

I don't have much about vSphere. But now We can't download the vmware and vcenter path file in Broadcom portal.

It has a clear dashboard you can see the CPU, RAM, and Network Outage.

Server Administrator

VMotion service to migrate virtual machines in real time is amazing.

VMware vSphere is a popular virtualization platform with several advantages and some drawbacks.

Sr Systems Engineer

Having several VMS using vmware technology to take advantage of less physical hardware

Systems Engineer

For example if there are locking issues within the cluster against a fibre-channel storage array, you may need to reboot the entire cluster resulting in an outage of 100% of all infrastructure on the platform.

Network Engineer

Price of product can be high, and since the Broadcom acquisition its nearly impossible to purchase the product.

Environment is very much secure and vmotion helps in easy migration of environment.

Director

It should provide various licensing levels for the users.

The new Price politic is a rlly bad thing for costumers who bought it before.

High performance with great scalability and robust security.

Also view the resource allocation and usage.

Very simple management product for vmware servers.

The web UI makes it very easy to manage ESXi hosts and their configuration, as well as individual VM configuration.

The new licensing model implemented by Broadcom

Great product, hopefully the purchase process for this product will be simplified like it used to be.

The recent migration to Broadcom has increased pricing.

High licensing fees after Broadcom's acquisition.

vSphere has really improved my work efficiency since I am able to set up various operating systems (Linux and Microsoft servers) on my laptop for local development, testing, and automation.

Associate Professor

By employing it all the VM creation, deployment, and processing is done on the server side and all the client is responsible of is providing the VM display more or less.

Network Specialist

Reduced cost of the physical hardware used, from 24 host to 4, reduced cost of spare parts for all of them, also reduced the heat of all in the room, getting low consumption of electricity.
