BugDrop overview

What is BugDrop?

BugDrop is a free, open-source website feedback widget licensed under the MIT License, designed for developer-led teams and software projects that use GitHub as their primary issue tracker. Installed via a single script tag on any website, BugDrop converts in-app user feedback — bug reports, feature requests, in-app surveys, and board ideas — directly into GitHub Issues, complete with screenshots, annotations, browser metadata, and system information. No separate triage dashboard is required; all feedback lands in the GitHub Issues workflow where development teams already operate.

BugDrop supports both hosted and self-hosted deployment. The hosted option routes feedback through BugDrop's public Cloudflare Worker endpoint and GitHub App, while the self-hosted option allows operators to run their own Cloudflare Worker and manage credentials independently, giving teams full control over data flow. The widget features Shadow DOM isolation for style encapsulation and is fully stylable to match any host product's design. Privacy controls include automatic masking of sensitive fields such as passwords and credit card inputs, as well as developer-configured redaction for additional data governance requirements.

Beyond basic bug reporting, BugDrop includes in-app survey flows with ratings and follow-up questions, and an embedded feedback board (BugDrop Board) that supports authenticated upvotes and mirrors submissions to GitHub Issues. A JavaScript API trigger option supplements the default widget UI, giving developers flexible integration patterns. BugDrop targets open-source project maintainers, SaaS product teams, internal tooling developers, Next.js developers, and web agencies managing client staging reviews — serving as a lightweight, self-hostable alternative to dedicated feedback platforms.
