What is Chapar?
Chapar is a free, open-source, native desktop application built with Go for testing HTTP and gRPC APIs. Available on macOS, Windows, and Linux, with installation options via the Apple App Store and AUR for Arch Linux users, it operates entirely offline with no cloud component. All data is stored locally on the user's device, with no data transmitted to remote servers, no telemetry, no usage tracking, and no advertising frameworks.
The application supports a full range of HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, PATCH, HEAD, OPTION, CONNECT), content types (JSON, XML, Form, Text, HTML), authentication methods (Basic, Bearer, API Key, No Auth), and body types (Form, Raw, Binary). Workspace and environment management allow developers to organize variables and configurations across multiple projects. Dynamic variables, including random UUIDs, current timestamps, Unix timestamps, and random integers, can be injected into requests. Environment variables can be set directly from API responses using JSONPath expressions. Configurations are portable and can be saved and shared as files.
Chapar targets individual developers and development teams who build and test REST and gRPC APIs across any industry vertical or organization size. Secrets encryption and zero-telemetry architecture make it suited for workflows where data privacy and offline operation are requirements. Dark mode support and import/export functionality round out the feature set for day-to-day API development use.
