CustodyComms overview

What is CustodyComms?

CustodyComms is a local-first desktop application for Mac and Windows that imports messages from iMessage, Android SMS, Gmail, OurFamilyWizard, TalkingParents, AppClose, coParenter, WhatsApp, and CSV files, merging all sources into a single chronological timeline keyed by original timestamps. A SHA-256 hash is recorded for each source file on import and re-verified before export, with a chain-of-custody log capturing every import and export action. The Evidence Edition produces a Bates-numbered PDF, a per-file SHA-256 manifest, an audit-trail log, and an FRE 902(14) certification template, giving attorneys a court-formatted evidence package without requiring litigation-support staff.

CustodyComms targets individual parents in child custody or high-conflict co-parenting disputes and the family-law attorneys who represent them. A patent-pending Incident Finder scores messages against approximately 400 words and phrases across 18 keyword categories, including Coercive Control and Scheduling Conflict, grouping nearby high-scoring messages into ranked incidents. Each incident receives an AI-generated title and short summary. Desktop users can choose between Quick AI (on-device, no data leaves the machine) and Deep AI (opt-in per incident, sends only the selected incident text to OpenAI after showing the user exactly what will be transmitted). A browser-based Message Review tool at custodycomms.com requires no installation. A read-only iPhone companion app provides offline access for up to seven days, secured by PIN, Face ID, or Touch ID.

Case sharing is handled through on-device encryption before upload; attorneys open shared cases in the app at no cost and no subscription. Multi-factor authentication via TOTP authenticator app with one-time backup codes protects account access. Private notes and editable write-ups are stored separately from original imported records, which remain unmodified. A free tier supports up to 350 messages and five detailed AI analyses per month; the Evidence Edition unlocks unlimited AI analysis and the full court-export package on a month-to-month billing cycle with no long-term commitment.
