JAWS (Job Access With Speech) is a Windows-based screen reading solution that converts on-screen text, menus, dialogs, and controls into synthesized speech and refreshable Braille output, allowing blind and visually impaired users to operate computers fully independently. Designed for deployment on Windows desktops with remote access support via Citrix and Terminal Services, it serves students, working professionals, and organizations across education, banking, government, public sector, NGOs, and corporate enterprises in India and neighboring countries.
Core functionality includes a customizable scripting language and Script Manager for adapting nonstandard and proprietary Windows applications, configurable verbosity and punctuation settings, a Graphic Labeler for assigning text labels to icons and menus, and a Flexible Web feature for filtering ads and isolating main page content with per-site or per-page rule sets. Keyboard Help mode, Tutor mode, and screen-sensitive help hotkeys support navigation across Windows applications. Compatibility extends to Microsoft Office Suite, Internet Explorer, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Finacle, SAP, Corel WordPerfect, MSN Messenger, and Java applications, with automatic column and row title reading in Excel via the Define Name feature.
JAWS (Job Access With Speech) includes region-specific capabilities for the Indian market: an Indian-accent voice (Sangeeta), an Indian-language dictionary with support for adding Indian words for accurate pronunciation, and full Hindi and Marathi language support. The FS Reader, included at no additional cost, enables access to DAISY books and files. A Tandem feature supports remote e-learning and coaching by allowing a tutor to take control of a student's computer. Built-in Basic Training Tutorials in DAISY format with text and audio instruction allow beginners to learn Windows navigation independently, including through a fully talking installation process requiring no sighted assistance.
