Our commitment
Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

Lightrail overview
What is Lightrail?
Lightrail is an open-source desktop application for OS X and Linux that provides software developers and engineering teams with a unified AI command bar for executing LLM-powered workflows across multiple development tools. Activated via a global keyboard shortcut (Cmd/Ctrl-Shift-Space), it connects to tools such as VS Code, Google Chrome, JupyterLab, and SQL databases without replacing them, pulling live context from active applications to construct more relevant prompts and deliver more precise AI outputs.
All functionality is delivered through an extension framework called Tracks. Built-in Tracks cover VS Code integration, shell script writing and execution, local filesystem access, SQL database interaction, Chrome browser integration, and a chat interface. Developers can build custom Tracks using TypeScript or JavaScript with a provided SDK, distributing them as zip files installable from URLs. A Tokens system injects dynamically generated context into prompts, while an Actions system sends prompts to an LLM and executes functionality based on responses, including proposing code, creating files, and navigating software. Tracks can function as narrowly scoped LLM agents, enabling repeatable, workflow-specific automation.
Lightrail connects to OpenAI models (gpt-4, gpt-3.5-turbo, gpt-3.5-turbo-16k) either through a lightrail.ai-provided gateway or a user-supplied OpenAI API key, with the active model selectable per session. Prompt history and nickname support allow reusable inputs across workflows. The open-source codebase and SDK-based extensibility make it suited to engineering teams that require customizable, locally run AI tooling integrated into existing development environments.
