What is Lluminy?
Lluminy is a cloud-based, web-based automated documentation tool built for Python developers and software development teams. It generates docstrings across entire Python codebases within minutes using an LLM-based algorithm, converting undocumented functions into clearly documented, maintainable code. The algorithm operates exclusively on docstrings, leaving original source code unmodified, which guards against logic alterations caused by LLM hallucinations.
Lluminy integrates directly with GitHub, allowing teams to connect their accounts, select repositories, and generate documentation with a few clicks. Results are delivered automatically as pull requests, removing the need to manually copy and paste documented code. Teams can choose to document all functions in a project or target only those missing docstrings, giving precise control over documentation scope across single files or entire multi-file projects. A GitHub bot, currently in development, will extend this capability by continuously scanning incoming pull requests and suggesting inline code comments.
The tool addresses a common bottleneck in software development workflows: time lost to manual documentation. By automating docstring generation at the project level, Lluminy supports ongoing codebase maintainability, reduces friction in team collaboration, and allows developers to redirect effort toward shipping features.
