Spreadsheet Compare & Merge Tool for Excel overview

What is Spreadsheet Compare & Merge Tool for Excel?

Twelve regional offices send their monthly figures, and no two spreadsheets look alike. One calls the column Name, another Full Name, a third abbreviates revenue to Rev. Someone has to merge Excel files like these by hand, row block after row block, and then a revised version of the price list arrives and the whole team starts hunting for what changed. Spreadsheet Compare & Merge Tool for Excel was written for that kind of week.

The program reads the workbooks itself. It does not open Excel in the background, so it runs on a PC with any Office edition or with no Office at all. Files are processed on the local disk and written next to the originals. Nothing goes to a web service, and there is no account to create.

Typical jobs it takes over:

Month-end consolidation. Merge Excel files from a whole folder of branch reports and get one sheet ready for a pivot table, or one workbook where every branch keeps its own tab.

Data from systems that export in chunks. Forty CSV pieces from a CRM, or TSV files from a warehouse system, can sit in the same batch as XLSX and XLSM workbooks, so you can merge Excel files and text exports together.

Version checks. When you compare Excel files, two grids scroll side by side and the legend shows changed values, changed formulas, added rows and deleted rows in their own colors.

Splitting in the other direction. A master table can be cut into parts by row count or by the value in one column, with the header repeated in each part.

🚀 How to start

1. Install the program and open the Combine screen.

2. Add files one by one, or add a folder.

3. Set the order with the arrows. That order is the order the rows are written in.

4. Under Columns choose By column name when headers differ between files, or By position when they are identical.

5. Type the output name. Ending it in .xlsx or .csv selects the format.

6. Press Combine to merge Excel files in the list, then open the new file.

For a comparison, go to the Compare screen, browse to the old file on the left and the new one on the right, and click Compare two files. Prev. difference and Next difference step through each change. Export saves an Excel copy with the cells filled in, a CSV list with one line per change, or a PDF or HTML report.

👥 Who it is for

Bookkeepers who combine Excel files into one at the end of every month. Purchasing teams comparing supplier quotes between revisions. Store and depot managers sending weekly stock counts to a head office. Analysts and IT staff who keep configuration tables for test and production systems and need a diff they can feed to a script. In short, anyone who now opens fifteen files to build one, or anyone told to merge Excel files before a deadline.

❓ FAQ

How do I merge Excel files into one sheet? Choose Into a single sheet before you press Combine. The header is kept from the first file and the data rows of every file follow in list order.

Will the result break if a file has an extra column? No. Matching by column name builds a union of all titles, and files without a column simply get empty cells there.

Can it align rows by an ID instead of by position? Yes. A key column such as SKU pairs the rows, so a sorted or extended table is still compared correctly.

Is there a size limit? An Excel sheet holds at most 1,048,576 rows. If a merge would go past that, the program stops and tells you instead of writing a cut file.

🎁 Trial

The free trial needs no sign-up and runs every function, but it writes only a limited number of rows into a merged file and lists a limited number of differences. A lifetime license, a one-year license, a monthly plan and a business license remove those caps.
