Tidewave overview

What is Tidewave?

Tidewave is a web-based development toolkit that runs a coding agent directly in the browser alongside a live web application, giving the agent and developer a shared view of the same UI state, runtime exceptions, and error pages. Designed for full-stack web developers working with frameworks including Phoenix (Elixir), Ruby on Rails, Next.js, React, Django, FastAPI, Flask, and React + Vite, it integrates the browser, terminal, database, logs, and source code into a single local environment. The agent can autonomously inspect UI elements and trace them back to controllers, views, and templates; query the database; monitor logs; capture screenshots for visual regression detection; and record video of its actions as proof of work. Tidewave does not run in production and does not require handing over ownership of the local stack.

The toolkit supports multiple external AI coding agents, including Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, OpenCode, and GitHub Copilot, as well as any agent implementing the Agent Client Protocol (ACP). It also supports OpenRouter, OpenAI API keys, and 75+ LLM providers via OpenCode integration. Developers use their existing agent subscriptions. Core capabilities include a point-and-click UI element inspector, agent-driven browser testing, real-time code review, Git integration (branch switching, push/pull, pull request status, CI failure resolution), a task board for planning and tracking agent work, an accessibility pane that forwards live content-based checks to the coding agent, Supabase integration for performance diagnostics and security advisors, a built-in terminal emulator, custom MCP support, planning mode, slash commands, and the Tidewave Toolbar for building visual prompts. Tidewave Connect links external coding agents to the web application context.

Teams are served through a dedicated plan offering centralized configuration and unified billing. The open-source package is installable via CLI, keeping setup lightweight and compatible with existing local development workflows. Individual developers and development teams working locally on their own machines are the primary audience.
