Total Uptime Web Application and API Protection overview

What is Total Uptime Web Application and API Protection?

Total Uptime Web Application and API Protection (WAAP) is a security platform that protects internet-facing web applications and APIs by intercepting and blocking malicious traffic at the network edge, before it reaches servers or data centers. Deployed on a globally distributed anycast network spanning hundreds of network providers with native IPv6 support, it is available as a fully managed cloud service or as a self-hosted Web Application Firewall (edgeWAF) for on-premises, private cloud, and hybrid infrastructure environments. Target verticals include SaaS and technology companies, healthcare organizations, and businesses with PCI-DSS or HIPAA compliance requirements, scaling from small businesses to large enterprises.

Total Uptime Web Application and API Protection operates on a positive security model that enforces correct application behavior based on HTTP industry standards and best coding practices, without relying on attack signatures or pattern matching. This approach delivers zero-day protection against unpublished exploits and provides complete coverage across all 15 OWASP vulnerability classes, including SQL Injection, XSS, CSRF, Cookie/Session Poisoning, Buffer Overflow Exploits, and XML-based attacks. Deep content inspection performs bi-directional analysis of all application traffic, including full header and payload inspection, semantic extraction of application objects, and traffic sessionization. An adaptive learning engine automatically learns individual application behavior and generates human-readable policy recommendations that security managers can selectively apply. Multi-layer cloaking conceals server type, database technology, OS, and internal domain naming from potential attackers, while origin stealth keeps origin IP addresses hidden behind the WAAP network. DDoS defense stops volumetric attacks, SYN floods, teardrop attacks, fraggle attacks, and zombie connections at the edge.

The self-hosted edgeWAF option is offered in two tiers: edgeWAF Essentials, covering core Layer 7 controls, basic threat protection, and core rule sets; and Enterprise Security powered by Check Point, which adds global threat intelligence, automatic cloud-driven updates, advanced behavioral protection, and zero-day threat coverage. Information disclosure prevention covers predefined data objects such as credit card numbers and Social Security numbers, with support for administratively-defined custom objects. Country blocking and Layer 3 ACL support custom rules based on port, protocol, and IP range. Role-based access control, real-time reporting with detailed logs, and a REST API providing access to nearly all platform data and functionality round out the feature set for teams requiring automation and custom integrations.
