Ziperase Device Link for Macs overview
What is Ziperase Device Link for Macs?
Ziperase Device Link for Macs is an automated erasure and testing station for refurbishers, IT asset disposition companies and enterprise IT teams that process Macs in volume.
The operator connects the Mac, starts the sequence and follows on-screen prompts for the few steps that need attention. Device Link uses HDMI video capture with keyboard, mouse and USB emulation to boot the Mac into recovery, check firmware and Activation Lock, erase it using Apple's recommended, most secure method for the device, collect system information and reinstall macOS from the included USB install media. The Mac is left at Apple's first-setup screen with no user accounts, ready for its next owner. Where a reinstall is not required, the Recovery Hardware Test sequence completes in about 7 minutes.
A single station handles MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro and iMac, on Apple silicon (M1 through M6) and Intel (T1, T2 and Legacy), running macOS 11 Big Sur through macOS 27 Golden Gate. 14 Mac sequences cover full processing, erase only, macOS install only and startup security setup.
R2v3 hardware testing guides the operator through keyboard, trackpad, screen, webcam, microphone, speakers, battery, USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth checks, with an optional e-Stewards battery test and an enhanced keyboard test.
Each Mac produces a tamper-proof, digitally signed certificate with its serial number, model, specifications, security lock status, asset ID, battery health and cycle count, erase method and result, hardware test results and operator sign-off. Extra fields capture custom asset IDs, customer details and cosmetic grades, and a Dymo label can print automatically when each Mac finishes.
Reports sync to the Ziperase Customer Portal, where licenses are also managed, and can be pulled into ERP and other systems through the REST API or the Makor, Razor and webhook integrations. The same station can also process Chromebooks with Device Link for Chromebooks.
Device Link for Macs holds ADISA Product Claims Level 4 certification and supports NIST SP 800-88 R2, IEEE 2883:2022, R2v3 and e-Stewards.
