I love it for standalone use. The menu arrangements are better than the Microsoft products, it crashes far less often, and it is OUTSTANDING for opening older documents such as from WordPerfect.

LibreOffice is a great substitute for MS Office if cost an issue. It's completely free software (and I believe it's open-source as well) that includes all of the features of the most expensive alternatives.

In some circumstances LibreOffice can solve your problem fully. If you have limited computer power or doing some simple office tasks LibreOffice would be best choice. In our case, some of our single board computers which is designated for simple tasks required to read and edit office files. But if your work needs advance office tasks with bigger files, i do not recommend this program. 

Not bad for Linux distributions 

I am using LibreOffice rather occasionally, mainly when I receive a document made in LibreOffice, when I need a portable solution for my text editing, or when I am using Linux. It is not bad, far from it! The Microsoft Office is just better (and it cost money).

The only time I open up MS Office is by mistake. Libre office is and has been my go-to office suite since the day I downloaded it. Very robust and a great, free, opensource replacement for MS Office. Highly reccomended.

Free substitute for MS Office

I really like it.  I cannot use it for everything, but it is quite useful and can be a true substitute for the proprietary counterparts so long as you don't have to convert or import from/export to other file formats.  It's useless for anything requiring standard legal tables of authorities (e.g., appellate briefs), but if you don't have those to worry about, and are not passing back-and-forth documents with a lot of formatting, the suite is full-featured and you can do almost everything you can do with the commercial product.

My experience has been one of pure joy. Using Libre Office to make documents, spreadsheets and presentations is made so much easier with this application, especially when working in a Linux environment.

LibreOffice is an inexpensive alternative to Microsoft office and I would recommend it if you do not have dedicated software. Great for small businesses or start ups.

In my opinion, the only flaw in WordPerfect is its inability to handle Unicode character sets and double-byte characters (ie Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Japanese, etc).
