I have used KeyCreator for 15 yrs and one of the most important things to me is the ease of translation importing and exporting file types and how fast the program allows me to work.

The feature generation and documentation (drilled and/or tapped holes, fasteners, etc.) is mostly an imported functionality set from the old Draftpak suite they imported into CADkey years ago.

We have found that using a non-parametric 3D CAD modeling software in our custom tool & die work is preferable in most instances to using a parametric modeler like Solidworks.

Inputting bend allowances and corner reliefs is simple and allows easy exportation of flat DXF files to use for manufacturing.

There have been a number of times we have received Solidworks or geometry in other parametric formats from our customers, and when they made a minor change to something it screwed up other aspects of the geometry because they didn't have their constraints set correctly.

We make parts both little, 0.125", and large, 15", it depends on the size of the printer.

I do wish that the KeyCreator development team were more approachable with bug fixes and functionality improvements, and that some of the issues I have reported through the years would actually see improvements rather than being completely disregarded.

I am probably using about 30% of it’s capabilities, but that’s OK because I can get things that I need done, done quickly while only occasionally utilizing many of the available features.

The fact that it's non-parametric removes the worry that by changing one feature I risk screwing up other aspects of my geometry unintentionally.

The online support, examples and tutorials are great, they need to be expanded into the fringes of the software where reside some very powerful tools.

Designing in 3D and being able to see my projects from all aspects is critical to my business.

Like most software these days, the documentation and help system are terrible, and often haven't even been updated to match the current version of the software.

We cannot make continuing section views except from a main view (you cannot section a section view).

The support is excellent when needed and they have a great option to submit customer requested features.

It is capable of importing many mainstream file types and is very dependable.

There are several bugs that have not been addressed over multiple different versions.

They have done very little to improve it, it's pretty buggy and there are some large holes in the way it works.

A day of "teaching" where to look and getting the proper mind set would definitely help but is not necessarily needed.

For the most part, KeyCreator fulfills that mission, with a few glaring gaps.

Large or small, one can draw whatever you need to.

I started with Alibre Atom, and after a year of use, liked it well enough to upgrade to Alibre Design Pro; I only had to pay the difference in price between Atom and Design Pro, to get the upgrade package, again very fair, essentially getting credit for the Atom package I had bought a year before.

It is in daily use for general mechanical design, 2D workshop drawings, and an ever growing number of 3D printing jobs.

Meshcam Pro for Alibre provides an entry level CAM capability which is suitable for my hobbyist workshop without costing a fortune.

The value to me for a complete 3d design solution, is very attractive and , like I said, export capabilities to other design platforms allows me to create E-drawing models for customers to view.

Second, having Alibre transferable among computers means that I can have it at home and then transfer the license to my laptop for travel, and then back to my home computer again upon my return.  

It's not so much what I like least, but more of a wish list item, in an area where your obvious competitor, Solidworks, apparently also offers nothing in the following area: It would be great if I could control a sequence of views from a .csv file, so that I could more readily generate animations of sequences of images, for instance coming out of flight simulation software that I've developed.  

We use it for its solid model design capabilities and also to reveal X/Y coordinates needed to construct CNC machining programs.

In Alibre, you have to meticulously define the exact boundaries of the space; not even lines that go past the boundaries of the hatched area will work; all the lines and arcs must connect to each other seamlessly.

The addition of PDM has provided a central location for the storage of all design files and part libraries.

I would really like to see Alibre offer a "Finder's Fee" for reporting reproducible bugs; this would help make Alibre a better product, by soliciting and utilizing very specific user feedback.

So far, lacks nothing, still experimenting with the pdm (vault) feature, seems like a good setup for alike parts and assemblies, and it gives a form of parametrics to deal with similar part profiles.

Sometimes the motion in the assemblies get corrupted or disconnected pretty easily and I have to go back and either completely reassemble or spend quite a bit of time repairing and issue.

In a world where we're all getting sick of subscriptions, online-only software, forced cloud storage, and AI learning, Alibre is a huge breath of fresh air.

I can pretty much design anything I that can imagine at this point, and the workflow progression feels very natural and efficient.

I’ve sent them ‘packages’ with problems I’m been having and they get right back to me with helpful solutions to how to use the various tools built into Alibre to accomplish what I’m attempting to do.

Occasional glitches on radii or chamfers, which I can eventually get them where I want them, just have to do them individually most of the time.

One drawback for me with Alibre Design is the 2D drawing package. Though it is very capable even when compared to more expensive packages with such features as exploded views, bill of materials and ballooning, etc. , the workflow is not as intuitive as it could be.

I would like the ability to customize view controls using keyboard shortcuts, i.e. Zoom to Window, Zoom All, View Orientation, etc.

Like myself, most retired individuals can't afford thousands of dollars yearly to maintain a subscription and this package delivers the best for anyone who is retired but still does some development and contract work.

The rendering is very limited, would like to manipulate color palette, light sources, and have realistic texturing capabilities.

Also wish they had a 2d parametric only version... though I can use just a simple sketch for simplistic scenarios.

With v29, Alibre intends to remove their Windows dependencies and consider other operating systems in the future!

I do miss the export in DXF since I do a lot of plasma cutting machine parts.

One in particular is just better images, I seldom feel the need to go into photo-rendering software to get a great screenshot that conveys my ideas to others.

Slight changes to how it works in v28 vs v26 (clicking on activate 2d no longer shows a simple 2d surface--I get a cluttered 3d image that is hard to edit on a 2d surface).

Lastly the pricing is perfect for those of us who use the software both professionally and personally at home. As an engineer having my own commercial use licence lets me consult and design when I need to, as I need to.

Having had experience since high school (in the F1 in Schools Program) with CATIA, SolidWorks, ProDesktop and ProEngineer and having used Inventor at university, AlibreDesign Expert was a 100% seamless experience - no learning curve at all - doing the common things were much faster with the cleaner interface.

I like Alibre because: Easy to learn, help is always there, fits my needs 100% and allows several options to export files.
