AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) overview

What is AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM)?

AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) is an access governance and policy management web service that enables businesses to control access to AWS services by managing user, group, and access policies. It allows staff members to utilize attribute-based access (ABAC) methodology to automatically scale fine-grained permissions based on multiple attributes, such as job roles, department, and team names.

AWS IAM Roles module enables administrators to manage and delegate temporary access rights and security credentials to specific resources, production environments, and applications. With the Access Analyzer tool team members can automatically generate fine-grained policies and required permissions based on access activities captured in the log. It also lets supervisors track last-accessed information to remove unused access rights, optimizing the permissions management processes.
