Amazon Lumberyard overview

What is Amazon Lumberyard?

Amazon Lumberyard is a cloud-based game development platform designed to help businesses and professionals build games and grow and engage their community inside and outside of their games. The AAA game engine lets developers operate, deploy, and scale session-based multiplayer game servers in the cloud, build a multiplayer backend, monitor game and player activities, automatically scale up and down to meet player demand, and maintain real-time records of available server capacity.

Key features of Amazon Lumberyard include Twitch Metastream, Amazon GameLift integration, component entities, gameplay editing, robust networking, modular gems, and weather effects. The Cloud Canvas tools enable users to build online, real-time game features that can access a variety of AWS services, including Amazon S3, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Lambda, Amazon SNS, Amazon Cognito, and Amazon SQS.

Amazon Lumberyard is integrated with AWS SDK for C++, which allows teams to access the vast storage of the cloud to connect to large communities of fans across online multiplayer experiences. The application also enables organizations to create high dynamic range and near-photorealistic environments and stunning real-time effects.

“As the game engine is still in its initial stages, and is pretty much restricted to AWS scenario, it is a bit difficult to use it as a primary tool for game creation.”
