Pros

Articulate Rise is currently my favorite tool for simple web based training development. Very easy to build beautiful and responsive courses that flow well and are easy to navigate.
Articulate Rise is so easy to use and build out courses. Storyline is much more challenging but the ability to create fun, engaging, interactive and interesting courses is endless.
Customer support is excellent and the community that Articulate has created with E-Learning Heroes is a wonderful resource.

Pros

Couple the ease of use with responsive technical support, and post-sales support, and your company will have a successful eLearning partner.
This past two days, the awesome support team has managed to solve my issues. I really do applaud the support team for their great service.
ISpring is still the best. Easy to understand, easy to use and plenty of awesome features.

Cons

As a graphic designer, I utilize a Mac every day and only being able to use this program on a PC is maddening. And the company has no plans to creat a version for Mac.
Perhaps my biggest pain point is in regards to logging in. Sometimes, I receive errors while logging on.
Our LMS toes the line, hard, on SCORM and the incompatibility caused me misery.

Cons

Not a real failure, but more of a dislike: You have to test everything before bringing it online.
This software is very unstable. I constantly have problems with it.
Quiz with math problems are difficult. Pen does not have colors.

Articulate 360 is a $weet $uite

Reviewed a year ago

I use Storyline 360 most days, and find it very user friendly. It has a lower learning curve than Captivate or Lectora for sure. The online community at eLearning Heroes is amazing, and Adobe's support is excellent.

Pros

The suite includes everything an elearning specilist might need to create great elearning: Storyline 360 (authoring tool), Rise (authoring tool), Review (a tool that works to capture feedback from reviewers for both Storyline and Rise), Replay (video-reording tool for capturing screen activity), Peek ( for recording screencasts), as as a large content library, and live online training. The suite is award-winning and very popular.

Cons

The suite is quite expensive for a single elearning developer.

Power, flexibility, and support!

Reviewed 10 years ago

I've used Adobe Captivate, iSpring, and Articulate Storyline. We used to use only iSpring and Captivate, but I convinced our department to begin using Storyline because if it's ability to control variables and triggers. It opened up a lot more options for the types of courses we were building (test prep courses). By far, Articulate Storyline was the most powerful and gave us the most flexibility. Not long after I began using Storyline, I discovered their awesome user forums and community. I found so much support there that I never wanted to turn back.

An all-encompassing learning creation platform!

Reviewed 6 years ago

The best e-learning development platform on the market, and I've used Captivate and Lectora.

Pros

Articulate 360's suite of learning authoring tools are best-in-class and allow for the creation of truly impactful learning programs. Storyline 360, included in the suite, is the industry-standard for creating e-learning and the program is created in such a way that one is only limited by their imagination.

Cons

I am not a fan of the subscription model for software. Sometimes, I may go months without a paid gig as a freelancer, but in order to stay up to date, I need to opt for this rather expensive software.

Articulate 360

A very powerful content creation tool

Reviewed 5 years ago

We get asked a lot by our clients about different tools to use to create content for their courses (we sell an LMS platform), and the ones we reccommend the most are iSpring and Storyline. Storyline is very powerful, maybe a bit harder to use, but it integrates well with our LMS and has very deep customization options allowing our clients to create really engaging and complex learning experiences.

Pros

Its a very powerful tool that allows users to create complex and engaging learning material. Quizzes, graded assignments, self evaluations, and more. It's great that it can create non linear paths so interactions get more complex. It also has great export options that allow good integration with out LMS.

Cons

Even if the UI is similar to most Office products, which would make it familiar to users, it's a bit harder to get started with because it has so many options to customize it that some users get overwhelmed. However, for our english speaking clients, there is a big community of storyline users who always helps. For non english speakers...its a bit harder to get help.

A solid suite of tools with stellar support

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

Of all the Elearning tools on the market, Articulate has the best usability and support The tools and templates offered in the suite allow you build some amazing Elearning.

Cons

The one weakness is a few of the offerings is the tradeoff of usability for flexibility. The highly templated nature of a tool like Rise limits the options for layout, functions and interactions. Some tools have a lot of flexibility (Storyline) but others may feel limited due to the target user it is designed for.

Ease of use

Reviewed 8 months ago

Having worked with both Adobe Captivate and Storyline I must say I am extremely impressed about how easy the software is and how many options are available to develop content right out of the box.

Pros

Articulate 360 comes with many tools available, including video capturing and rapid eLearning development. I use the authoring tool Storyline mainly from the suite and it meets all my requirements - powerful, customisable and easy to use. Being able to use javascript adds additional options behind the scenes. To their credit they are constantly updating the software and from time to time introduce new features. The community "ELearning Heros" is great with lot's of support and members sharing ideas and troubleshooting. The review process is incredible and makes it easy to keep track of changes that are required.

Cons

Suggestions to enhancements are slow and sometimes are ignored for years. Needing to pay full price for a full suite of products also makes it expensive for small teams , e.g. I didn't even consider suggesting Rise to our community of SMEs because it requires a full license even though they're only using one small feature set of the Articulate 360 suite. A BIG NEGATIVE for me is no native Apple Mac support. This is a serious problem for me and many other members of the community

Its obvious that Articulate are really listening to the market and continually improving.

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

Expands on the offering, creating an overall suite of features and potential. For example, the content library lets you grab media where you needn't worry about royalties and searching endlessly. Allows for constant upgrades and improves to each component of the software. This is a growing suite and updates are released regularly. Unlocks potential for greater and more in-depth solutions, rather than standalone content. For example, object collision allows for game creation. Addresses QA issues, with the fantastic review feature. You can see exactly what and when the reviewer is experiencing issues.

Cons

Price point may be prohibitive for freelancers, but this has been addressed with normal licence availability. Studio and Replay seem a bit unnecessary now and could perhaps take efforts away from the more useful components of the suite.

Articulate Storyline 2 Review

Reviewed 8 years ago

I find the entire suite of Articulate products to be user friendly, easy to navigate for users that just enter the eLearning development space up to advanced users. You can pretty much design and develop any project that you can think of.

Pros

The product is simple to navigate and all features are just a mouse click away. The general Microsoft "PowerPoint" feel makes it easy to adapt storyboards and convert it to eLearning. The publishing features are quite extensive, allowing publishing to most types of devices and platforms.

Cons

The costs of upgrading and version updates are excessive.

I have been using Storyline for over 6 years.

Pros

The best product in this learning suite is Storyline. You can do essentially anything you want with this Storyline in terms of eLearning. From animations to simulations to videos, this product is an excellent partner when developing online courses.

Cons

Rise, which is also a product in this suite has a ton of potential, but there are some major flaws. For example, you cannot copy or move individual screens to a new lesson. It is also not very great if you want to add audio to screens. You can import individual Storyline screens into a Rise project, but at that point, you may as well just build in Storyline. I see its usefulness for novice developers as its very easy to use, as opposed to Storyline which is very technical to use and really made for professional developers.

Best authoring tool

Reviewed 3 years ago

I started by using Captivate and was not happy with the results. I found that the training I created and articulate looks more professional and was much easier to author.

Pros

Articulate has a suite of products that will serve any training needs. For a quick training with interactive elements, RISE is what you will need. For a more complex robust training, STORYLINE is best suited. Assets are robust and very numerous.

Cons

The price point is a little high for an individual license. That being said, if that is the only drawback, it is very well worth the price.

The #1 Custom Interactive Learning

Reviewed 2 years ago

I love it! It is by far the #1 authoring tool for many reasons, but on top of the list is the ease of use.

Pros

I have been using Articulate 360 for 5 years or so. I love everthing about it. Starting from Storyline to Rise. We have built a lot of interactive & engaging learning experiences using it. I also love the continuous updates.

Cons

It is kinda expensive. If I thought of buying a license for ny own use, i really need to secure income to justify the price. I know you are getting a lot as part of the whole 360 suite. Yet, having a customized pricing could solve a lot.

Articulate 360

Suite indispensable pour la création de modules e-learning

Reviewed a year ago

Storyline has come a long way

Reviewed 5 years ago

I started out on Storyline so it holds a soft spot for me in a lot of ways, but I'm expecting some big updates for Rise in future.

Pros

I think Articulate have worked really hard to develop as full a suite of tools that most e-learning professionals will need on the job - including Storyline, Rise and Review. I do like the Content Library for the most part but when you work in a specialist industry, it becomes very limited very quickly.

Cons

Rise is missing a lot of features that would make it more desirable than using Storyline in these days of rapid development. Storyline development is just too slow to work with regularly in my day-to-day work so I rely on Rise more (though this is due to working with another piece of software in another job that was similar but far superior however for agnostic device development, it's useful) - they...

Articulate takes a big step into the future

Reviewed 8 years ago

Articulate has taken my favorite authoring tool to a new level by building it into a suite of tools for an elearning developer. Being cloud based allows for frequent updates, in fact an update came out just today. My favorite new tools are Rise, a fully responsive development app, and Review, an online tool for collecting comments/feedback from SMEs/clients during the development phase.

Pros

There is much to like about the software but I'd say the support community that Articulate has put together is unmatched. Staff and community members are just phenomenal.

Cons

It's a suite of products, basically everything that Articulate makes, and it's all or nothing. While it is still possible to buy some of the original products as standalones and Articulate is promising support for these you can't get the cloud-based apps ala carte. I wish they offered a model like Adobe does with its Creative Cloud where you can purchase the whole package or just select the specific ones you're interested in.

Articulate 360 logo

Articulate 360

Perfect tool for avid developers

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

I love how intuitive the UI is - very similar to the familiar Office suite. Tons of triggers, animations, and media types to make great elearning. Especially useful is the layers function, which makes it easier to create rich media and manage the source files. Lots of my clients really appreciate the review site and our communication there, and it makes it easier for me to manage feedback!

Cons

You definitely need to be an expert in order to make the most of this tool; while a novice may be able to create objects and basic animations, you've got to dive pretty deep to use all of the features. You'd be surprised that the elearning courses you've taken before which look like they are built by the most creative developers and designers are actually done in Storyline. It's also insanely expensive and make it cost prohibitive for most.

Great tool when L&D is not your only job

Reviewed 3 years ago

It is easy to get up and running, just difficult with branching, media, and sound control issues.

Pros

I like how easy it is to learn to use iSpring.

Cons

Branching not as easy as Articulate 360, Sound edit not as easy as Camtasia, and it is a pain to download assets and templates.

Vendor response

Hi Karen, Thank you so much for reviewing iSpring here on Capterra! We appreciate it greatly. It's wonderful to hear that iSpring fits your needs just perfectly. Hope it keeps serving you well :)

Um, amazing.

Pros

So far, I am very pleased. I have used Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360, and Active Presenter for eLearning authoring, and I have to say that iSpring has been the most enjoyable. Rapid development. High Quality. Amazing end-to-end eLearning development tool. The support is amazing as well. I feel that this was built top to bottom with the end-user in mind.

Cons

Nope, it's all there. I honestly can't think of anything that it hasn't been able to do, that I have wanted it to.

Vendor response

Hello Jared, Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts about iSpring products and service. We very much appreciate it. It's great to hear that you are happy with the iSpring solution. Buyer Beware

Reviewed 4 years ago

Because I cannot get any support from them unless I subscribe to their latest version for nearly the full price of the software, I have to give them one star. No support = no customer service. No customer service = bad policy.

Pros

The options offered for engagement and interest level.

Cons

If you do not repurchase this software yearly via their maintenance program, you get no support. No chat, no email, no online knowledgebase. I can't even begin to describe how disappointed I am. To me, that is unethical. A company that does not support all versions of its software does not deserve to be in business. I checked my copy of Articulate 360, and they provided support to Articulate 13 released in, you guessed it, 2013. My version of iSpring is less than 2 years old. I'll be converting all of my elearning lessons to Articulate360 BECAUSE of their amazing support.

Vendor response

Hi Eileen, Thank you so much for your detailed review of iSpring products and service. We appreciate your taking the time to submit it here on Capterra. As per your Cons, let me please note that for those who do not wish to continue with the Maintenance plan, we have a vast collection of helpful resources available online, such as video tutorials, help docs, articles, webinars, FAQs: https://www.ispringsolutions.com/support. We also have social media pages where anybody can ask our community any question about iSpring. Those who do have maintenance plan, however, get immediate support via chat, phone as well as 24/7 email assistance. Hope that helps!

Simple design and development of eLearning courses.

Pros

The functionality of iSpring is very similar to Articulate Storyline, thus I had a smooth learning transition between the two eLearning software companies.

Cons

Some functionality of iSpring is limiting when it comes to the design and development of eLearning projects. But, that's improving and will eventually be on part with today's industry leaders.

Pros

Easy of use; PowerPoint plug-in makes rendering HTML5 a breeze. iSpring makes it very easy to create interactive modules for your LMS/DLE or as stand-alone web pages.

Cons

iSpring Cloud is very expensive. The product does not have as many sophisticated features as Articulate Rise for example, but the trade off is the ease of use and simplicity.

Full-featured Course Authoring Software

Reviewed 6 years ago

We provide online training in leadership and project management and iSpring has many interactive features that make it suitable for interpersonal skills training. We've been in the training business since 1981, and this program is the best we've found.

Pros

I've been using Articulate for about 10 years. I decided to try iSpring a few months ago and am very pleased with the performance. I have been able to create a new course and test it on desktop, Android phone and tablet and it works well.

Cons

It can only be activated on one computer without getting permission. I need to use it when I travel as well as in my office. Most software companies understand that you need this capability. I hope iSpring will make this option standard.

Vendor response

Hi James, Thank you very much for your sincere review of iSpring. Happy to hear iSpring made it to being a part of your toolbox! Keep up the great work! :) As per your request, thanks for sharing, we'll forward it to our PD team!

TalkMaster is a great simulation software

Reviewed 7 years ago

Referring to TalkMaster an extremely high efficiency. I guess It takes me about half the time to develop a branched scenario compared to captivate.

Pros

I have to admit that I so far just use TalkMaster, the built in software simulation. I am astonished of its ease of use and the visual display. It makes it a lot easier than if you would try to do something similar in articulate storyline yet in adove captivate.

Cons

In ISpringSuite it would be great to have a dedicated software simulation functionality as captivate or storyline offers.

Our school is a new user of the iSpring Suite Full Access products, and so far we are pleased.

Reviewed 6 years ago

Rapid creation and deployment of eLearning content and quizzes.

Pros

It is easy to use, and will allow you to create beginning eLearning content along with an embedded quiz very quickly. It also offers features a number of very useful features that allow more complex content and quizzes with a little practice and effort. The iSpring support team has been very responsive to guide us through the questions and problems we have experienced as novice users.

Cons

There are formatting restrictions that other products do not impose, such as Adobe Articulate, however this is less of a 'con' than a trade-off. Often times, ease of use requires a reduction in granular features, and this particular trade off was acceptable to our school.

Vendor response

Hi Kirk, Thanks SO MUCH for you sincere review of iSpring products and services. We greatly appreciate it. Hope iSpring keeps you well :)
