A very intuitive tool for classroom use!

2019-04-15

I have experienced Moodle in the form of a student. I enjoyed the interface.

Pros

Moodle allows teachers, parents, and students connect online in an ever growing world. It provides the tools to teachers and administrators so they can create class sites that collect, publish, and share work. I really appreciate the simplicity of the site. This allows teachers at all levels to take advantage of the offered tools. The templates are very user friendly.

Cons

They have fallen behind others like Schoology and Canvas.

The bestest LMS with the mostest

2016-01-14

It really has the most capabilities -- I have used Blackboard, Blackbaud, Skyward, Renweb, and Schoology. Moodle has the most flexibility and sophistication, and the most appropriate for a real classroom teacher.

Bloated and outdated

Have a look at Schoology or integrate Google Drive if you want to save time and expenses, would be my advice for now.

Communicate, Question, Appreciate

2015-11-09

Pros

We previously used Moodle, and our setup was not uniform.

Cons

The product is young and still catered towards the K12 environment. The language, the features, and the community of users are primarily K12. While that's not a big deal, it can often make community events or new features irrelevant to the higher ed environment. The only other downside is that there are not many settings for students with special needs. It is often clunky to create workarounds to accommodate students who need more time in quizzes or struggle to access media content.

Recommendations to others considering Schoology

Communicate, question, appreciate. I overcommunicate and it's well received. Schoology values email correspondence and timeliness, so I know that if I have a need or situation that I can email and expect a response. I've even, in a crisis, had the privilege of exchanging personal numbers with my previous Account Manager so that I could connect with him throughout the situation and get real time updates. As a result of that, our emergency was handled in less than 24 hours. As I communicate, I ask a lot of questions. About the future of the product, about how things work internally, about how to use Schoology to its greatest potential. All of my questions are graciously answered and respected. I am never turned away and get results. Lastly, I make sure to always tell them how much I appreciate the work they are doing! We are using their product for our institution. I know what it means to have my work appreciated, so I try to treat the vendor according to the Golden Rule. Following these three steps has made our relationship with Schoology really healthy and provided us a consistently professional and excellent experience.

-Enterprise version is worth the cost for integration with SIS but free version works great too! -Pairs well with Notability app for paperless users

However, it is not...repeat not.. a mature LMS, though it is certainly prettier than moodle or canvas.
