Big improve, make that massive improvement over Vertex. In fairness, the move to Netsuite solidified the Avalara move.
For daily use, the Walk me Through help feature, and the great wealth of help articles and FAQs, make it easy to find the answer to any questions.
Overall, I've had a great experience. Ve got a great customer service rep who has been nothing but helpful throughout the entirety of my experience with Avalara.
Pros
We conducted testing and worked with our M.S.R. to resolve each issue so we're hoping for a smooth Q1 in 2020.
It is a much better tax program than our old software,and we are able to get better reporting from this software as well.
Intuitive interface and robust help menu means that even if you don't know how to complete something you can figure things out fairly quickly.
Cons
Reminds me of the old Microsoft model (maybe still current model?) and it can be very irritating. If you have a tax problem, the last thing you need is more costs and a wait time.
We were only able to check theses datas as "avoid", but they were considered in the number of transactions we pay in our annual plan. So we were paying for this mistake.
I would not recommend going with Avalara due to the horrible customer service and the fact state agencies hate working with them (and that is a quote from 5 different states).
Cons
Threshold reporting for various jurisdictions is a must and is missing.
I have noticed a large number of errors in calculating sales tax, had too many issues with the implementation team.
To many groups and the hand off from one group to the next is dismal.
