Pros

I have been with Xero for many years. I love the sense of community and i LOVE that I am not being asked to upgrade or upcharge the way some other companies do.
I love the app and gives me accounting on the go. Helps me track invoices and profits with ease.
The ease of use and reputation are by far the greatest part of this product. In addition to this, the range of potential integrations is fantastic.

Pros

It's a user friendly service with great customer care, wonderful service if u have a small business.
Fields to fill and perfectly links the data from one end like ap and AR to the bank reconciliation. Great reports on transactions for the month or period if interest.
We love that it helps us streamline efforts, is easy to use, and is easy to train others on. QuickBooks Online has definitely been one of the best technology pieces of our administration.

Cons

There are no delivery notes/packing slips. They tout a "workaround" but be warned, it's exactly 10 extra clicks so it's really not an option if you need this feature.
Our main complaint is that Xero stopped doing payroll in 2018, so now you have to pay an additional fee to a payroll processor such as Gusto.
Changing accounting software from Xero is a horrible experience. They make it very difficult to pivot to other software.

Cons

This is extremely unprofessional and unacceptable from the company that is supposed to have your books.
The problem is that doing your own taxes online becomes risky the more you have to account for.
Other than tracking my expenditures, the whole system is a pain. Error messages constantly received because "there's a message from your bank" bla bla bla.

More powerful than QuickBooks Online with a better user interface.

This is a cloud based accounting software. It is extremely easy to use and the customer support and software updates are top notch. I have used this software in the past for a small business and I wouldn't recommend any other software.

I wish I'd just started with Quickbooks.

Pros

Honestly - not much. It's not intuitive to use, it was only a little less expensive than Quickbooks, and ultimately, not worth it when Quickbooks Online provides so much more value.

Cons

Everything is really difficult to navigate. Payroll (when it used to be offered) did not have direct deposit, 941 taxes could not be paid electronically, it was just a huge time suck for me.

An OK alternative to QuickBooks

Convenience from the cloud with a lower price tag than QuickBooks Online if you don't need many features.

Pros

Staff is friendly and helpful, learning center has useful tutorials and classes, the educational videos on how to use the features are concise and useful. I recently explored Xero as an alternative for my clients who are dissatisfied with QuickBooks Online due to price increases and other issues. Xero's offers more pricing plans which makes it easier to customize for your needs and increases the odds that you'll find a plan that will save you money over QuickBooks.

Cons

For those that have been used to QuickBooks, switching to Xero requires a learning curve as the layout and terminology are different and not as intuitive. I wasn't able to just dive in and figure it out as I go, instead, I had to spend time on tutorials familiarizing myself with features that I needed no training to figure out on competitor's software.

Save yourself the hassle

Overall a good product that used to be competitively priced, but is now the same price as Quickbooks Online, which is a far superior product. Save yourself the hassle and go with Quickbooks.

Pros

Clean design, and very intuitive controls and layout

Cons

It is no where near as powerful as competitors - e.g. Quickbooks online. It is also very buggy. I have a bank feed that hasn't synced for 3 months, and support has been useless. They keep telling me that it's on their list to figure out, but seriously 3 months and nothing? The thing is it was working for 4 years, then just stopped when they updated their software. Without this main operating accounting syncing, it makes the software useless to me.

My overall experience is that there are more cons then pros for me. I feel that to complete a simple Accounting tasks takes me longer in Xero because of the way it is set up.

Pros

The PO feature is nice. You can create a PO from an invoice. You cannot do that in Quickbooks online right now.

Cons

As an accountant, I do not like that all expenses have to be entered as a bill. I do not like how I cannot drill down on the P&L on what total expenses are, etc. I do not like it that I cannot see the GL impact of a transaction easily.

I switched from Quickbooks to Xero because Xero integrates with so many more online apps EASILY. Sure you can make Quickbooks Online work with some apps, but integrating them isn't nearly as easy or smooth as it is with Xero. And in the world of cloud computing, having quality tools that all work well together is huge.

Cons

The mobile app is currently very limited in what you can do. It would be nice if I could create and view invoices on the mobile app.

I was a Quickbooks Pro Advisor for five years and relied heavily on an expensive and inconsistent server to share data with clients. Pros

- Ease of use: Understandable menus- navigation is a cinch - Cost: a fraction of the cost of Quickbooks Desktop + a server and on par with Quickbooks Online - SaaS integration- Have a software you need connected? There is likely an API for it

Cons

No job costing, in depth inventory without using a third party app Reporting is limited Both of these cons will be addressed this year, likely and there are SaaS add on solutions present.

Although it has some cons of the software, but i am using the same since several years, its pros overcomes all its cons

Pros

XERO is very smart and intelligent online accounting and book keeping software. Below are the features and pros of the software. Overall design and user interface is excellent. It some very useful features like auto bank statement upload, automatic back reconciliation, automatic bill payments, create purchase orders, multi Currency support with hourly foreign exchange rates etc. Whether its small business or mid size business XERO is one of the best software

Cons

Software is somewhat overpriced. QuickBooks online has also several more features that makes XERO a less competitive product. It has purchase order facility but has nkt facility to make sales order.

Competitive Bookkeeping Software

Xero is an excellent option for small businesses, with many integrations and excellent acquisitions that will expand its usefulness over time. A breeze of a company to work with, their training is also simple and pleasant.

Pros

Clear, simple layouts; many app integrations; consistently good customer service; excellent focus on research and development of new features. More robust than softwares like FreshBooks or Wave.

Cons

Less aesthetically appealing than QuickBooks.

Financial and expense reporting.

Pros

Xero app send instant alert when there is disparity on invoices, POs and accounts when paying vendors.

Cons

Mobile app isn’t highly customizable compared to Quickbooks.

Xero has a nice clean and intuitive interface. It is easier to use than quickbooks online. As CPA who uses the software regularly, i find the reporting to be excellent. The inventory module is easy to use as well.

Xero for non profits

Now that I am up and running I really like it. The nominal structure is very different to Sage Line 50 but the principles are the same. I was advised by multiple accountants to choose Xero or Sage online above Quickbooks

Pros

Online means that we can share information across the team as we do not work from a central office.

Cons

I did need an expert to help me set up Xero and make sure all the data was imported correctly. We bought in around 10 hours of expert help to get us started.

Pros

Navigating this system and setting up my business was less complex than quickbooks. It also helps that you’re able to transfer your business from quickbooks

Cons

I don’t have any negative issues with this system as of right now. Set up was pretty easy for me. So far so good

Xero is an all-in-one accounting software ideal for smaller business that needs reports on the fly and can't rely on a CPA on a monthly basis. At the most basic level, Xero allows users to create and send out invoices and reconcile bank feeds, ultimately creating P&L statements, balance sheet, and cash flow statements. It's relatively easy to learn although there is a steep learning curve.

Challenging to Use

Overall I find Xero very difficult to use, it doesn't seem to reconcile well and the reports are hard to customize or run properly

Pros

I currently cannot think of anything that I like about Xero, I always have things that I am wanting to do but either cannot do, or find it very hard to do with Xero (such as reconciling properly or pulling different reports)

Cons

I find this software very challening to use. I primarily use QuickBooks Online and Desktop with my clients, we have one client on Xero, and find that Xero is very difficult to use, and does not have the functionality that I am used to with QB.

Good software, terrible support and company

General use of the software is good. The company and technical support made me consider going back to Quickbooks online. Instead I switched to Freshbooks. Great technical support. They answer within 4 rings. Very knowledgeable and patient. 10 out of 10 for support.

Pros

I previously used quickbooks pro, but found their product too expensive and the support was also not very good. I switched to Xero, because of the price and the quality of the software

Cons

Support is only via email. They initially respond within the promised time frame, but 9/10 times the answer is not relevant to the question asked. It's like they don't read the question, or the initial techs are inexperienced. So after wait on average 4 hours for a response, you have to wait long for a reply to any subsequent answer, which is 9/10 times not relevant to the question. So, in my experience...

Very popular, but not the best.

It's decent, but there are better platforms out there for small businesses. I prefer Xero.

Pros

I like that they give accountants a free version to work with and practice before accepting clients. That was absolutely necessary for me when I first got started.

Cons

Their billing system is terrible. I personally have had issues with it and also I've had clients with major problems. Their merchant services caused big cash flow problems for one of my clients and was completely unfair to the user.

Quickbooks is the industry standard BUT it needs some work

I would recommend a more flexible program like Xero that has better-developed APIs.

Pros

For accountants, making journal entries and copying old entries is a breeze. QB does have good accounting controls as well and you can limit which sections of the website each employee can access.

Cons

It's the most used product in the industry which makes it difficult to find a replacement. The financial reporting export tool does not format financials and it just spits out a CSV file. I also find their UI/UX to be clumsy and difficult to navigate.
