PowerDesk overview

What is PowerDesk?

PowerDesk is an award-winning SaaS power trader's dashboard for intraday and day-ahead markets. Offering intelligent visualisation of real-time P&L and market connectivity from one central place, traders are empowered to optimise revenues from generation assets faster. PowerDesk provides a route to market for traders looking to adopt the latest algorithmic trading practices..

Key benefits of using PowerDesk

The market challenge:

The Green Energy Transition is driving decarbonisation and decentralisation of energy markets at an accelerating rate, leading to the rise in renewables trading. However, power generated by renewables is very difficult to store and intermittency disrupts the conventional methods for planning the daily operation of the electric grid. Their power fluctuates over multiple time horizons, forcing the grid operator to adjust its day-ahead, hour-ahead, and real-time operating procedures. As a consequence short-term power trading is on the rise. The emergence of several flexible asset types generating power means that trading desks need to analyse and manage far higher volumes and sources of data than 10 years ago. To capture opportunities quickly, traders need to analyse huge amounts of information constantly changing including market prices, bid/offer data, net open positions, output of generation assets and transmission systems operator notifications.

The traditional ETRM systems which were installed for long term trading across multiple commodities are not suited to the demands of short-term power trading. Utilities need to re-assess how best to equip their existing trading desks to participate effectively in short-term power markets. New entrants such as oil and gas companies investing in their renewables business and renewables asset developers who previously relied on 3rd parties to sell their power are looking to set up new trading desks.

Benefits of PowerDesk:

Brady has developed a cloud native front office trading tool, designed specifically for the short term power market. Working with traders, asset developers and traditional utilities, we have patented a unique approach to the modern trader dashboard.

With a best in breed modern technology stack, we are not binding traders with the limitations of the legacy ETRM. Our data driven and dynamic SaaS platform, with intelligent visualisation of live P&L, net open positions and market connectivity sits on top of your ETRM and helps traders secure opportunities faster to make the most revenue out of dynamic renewable assets.

Key features:

- State-of-the-art platform designed with the trader's user experience first and foremost.
- PowerDesk as as a 'Trader cockpit': Screen usage is reduced by 75% from traditional prompt trading desk set ups, whilst maintaining all critical intelligence needed.
- One central place for trader’s strike prices and volumetric positions, coupled with market views means no need to cut and paste data into alternative systems. Enables quicker time to market.
- Ideal platform from which to launch a rules based automated trading strategy
- Lower cost of operating the service compared to traditional power trading desk set up and go-live possible in weeks
