Thanks to Github we can manage our large code base without any problems, integrating a CI/CD flow with ease. It would be interesting to try the project management feature in order to dismiss Jira, but I think that it's still to soon to do that
- Simple and clean user interface - Tons of functionality - GitHub Actions to run automated tasks - Integrated board to track your work
- More expensive than competitors like bitbucket

I believe the main thing that they have nailed in Github is the look and feel. You never have any issues with the layout, everything works and is placed where they are expected to be.
There is no incentive for me to use the paid version. I would prefer to use bitbucket for the private repos which is free. I like both github and bitbucket but if I had to pay I would still pay bitbucket due to its ecosystem.

Our team would be lost without Github, from managing current projects, and creating separate code bases and managing deployments to searching current code from other developers. A valuable resource for any developer. The Github community has evolved on its own, with other coders always willing to help
An invaluable resource for any developer, couldn't work without it.
no private repos for the free version, unlike BitBucket

- stability - easy to use - lots of features I like a lot the fact that the interface is clean and quite unchanged among the time. I like a lot the issue section and they file comparison view. insights are also interesting from a performance analysis in a team environment.
- compared to Bitbucket, for private repos you have to pay. So in general for my private projects, from an R&D perspective, I still use Bitbucket. I mainly use Github on a company level, collaborating with my employees or colleagues

my overall experience is that, is the best way to store the code, is easy, fast, safe and so popular so basically you always have support. The only thing is that the experience about the PR have a few issues.
1) Great way to share code and store projects. 2) Easy to use 3) Is the biggest code community. 4) I love that now you can have private repositories for free.
1) Make a Pull request is kind of complicated if we compare it to Bitbucket

I used GitHub for almost 2 years on a Personal Plan. Then I switched to Bitbucket.
Simple and elegant UI for managing your codebase and working with other team members. Has an amazing community of open source projects. No one else comes close in this area.
No free plan for private repositories. Bitbucket and Gitlab provide the same for free. Can be expensive for indie developers.

I've tried other git repositories (GitLab, BitBucket, Gitea) but I always come back to GitHub.
A lot of free features from the get-go: private repositories, build minutes, storage, and almost everything that a solo developer/small business needs to start.
Nothing really. If I have to say something I don't like, it would have to be the "paywall" in front of some new cutting-edge features. (Co-pilot, Codespaces, etc)

GitHub is an essential destination for all developers and most will use it regularly.
Why wouldn't you use GitHub? It's free and there is a shed load of really useful libraries on there!
Not so great for private repositories. There are other providers (bitBucket, for example) that offer more.

Bitbucket is a nice alternative, but GitHub is the market leader for a reason: everyone uses it!
- Great code search; often someone else has implemented a thing you need. - Open source collaborations made easy - License info is visible and accessible so you know how you can use code you find
- Merge conflicts still a painful experience - Would be nice to have an easier way to squash commits on the website.

We've been using GitHub for over 6 years for our community projects like Symfony instances, etc. It's a convenient tool and we did appreciate that in 2019, GitHub also started offering free private repositories.
- one of the best things about GitHub is its vast community of fellow developers - over 40 million users and over 100 million projects are using this code repository platform. It makes it possible to create such projects as Angular 9.0.0, for example, where numerous people across the globe are working as a team to create a better product. - bug tracking and code reviewing is simple to manage, which makes it easier to work on the same projects by a team - unlike BitBucket and GitLab, GitHub also supports SVN repositories, not just git, so that's an advantage as well, in case your project needs svn.
It's more expensive than BitBucket and GitLab, but it's worth it, so that's not really a disadvantage.

It is a cost-effective tool and fully free to a small team. It has a very simple and manageable interface. (for example branch view)

I have been using GitHub for more than 4 years now and I didn't find any other alternatives or reason to switch to other platforms. For open source enthusiasts, GitHub is a very good platform to collaborate with developers across the globe.
Github has a very elegent UI for both desktop as well as mobile. Thus a beginner can also use it with ease. Also it provides wiki, issue tracking in built so that users don't have to depend on other trackers.
The private repo is a bit costly as compared to other sites such as gitlab or bitbucket.

Bitbucket allowed me to publish privately some work and choose whom to share it with.
At the time I discovered Bitbucket, it allowed to created private repositories, unline GitHub, which only allowed public repos on the free tier account. I used Bitbucket to keep my private notes on pentesting and for studies of sensitive topics. Today, I mainly use Bitbucket for source code review, since it also has all important git features.
It is not as used as GitHub, so there are a lot less products being shared through GitHub.

It's fine for internal source code hosting if you have your issues tracked elsewhere.
It does the basics well enough. The UI is generally simple and straight-forward.
It lacks many important features when compared to GitHub - such as integrated CI/CD with GitHub Workflows, integrated issue tracking and project planning.

I really liked the integration with Jira where the branch and it's commits were directly linked in the Jira card. Also, for beginners it is very easy to use at first due to the friendly design and UX. Pull requests that required reviews can be easily found just by checking which one does not have any reviewers photo on the side, it is very visual and helpful.
Not so stable and lacks a strong community like Github has. Also had many issues due to permissions changes. Could provide more data like Github, showing stats about commits, traffic, such as the insights sections in GitHub.

Use it for Source Code Management and Version control for automation projects.
Easy to setup and use. Uses Git and Mercury as revision control system. Easily integrate with JIRA and Confluence. Easy to manage different code repositories. Feature to restrict access to different users per branch and repository makes it easier to maintain privacy.
Switching between different branches is not as easy as in Github. It lacks in an effective Pull Request feature as provided by Github.

Free git repo for personal private projects.
Gives you git repos, team management, and many integrations. Free for individual private plans which makes it great for solo developers and small teams.

I was mostly using BitBucket for their unlimited private repos feature (whereas GitHub used to have a limit of 5) but now that GitHub allows for unlimited private repos as well, I have fully migrated over to GitHub.
Bitbucket, unlike most of its competitors, supports non-git version control systems such as Mercurial and Perforce. That's the main advantage I'd say (and honestly the only reason to pick it over GitHub or GitLab IMO).
Here's a small list - the UI is not nearly as beautiful or snappy as GitHub's or GitLab's - the UX can be confusing, e.g. it was hard to get used to the menu bar - almost complete lack of a community presence - no wiki collaboration feature

You can make up to 3 free private Repos. Has good customer support. Very powerful VCS like GitHub and others.
