Skeddly overview

What is Skeddly?

Skeddly is a cloud automation software to execute scheduled actions, such as backups and snapshots, for Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounts. With the aim to reduce costs and automate otherwise mundane tasks, Skeddly provides users with various task automation tools, action triggers and cost breakdowns per credential.

In order to automate AWS actions, Skeddly allows users to schedule and trigger actions at defined intervals with hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or other customized time frame options. For added security, Skeddly also runs periodic and automatic backup of data including EC2 instances, RDS databases and Redshift clusters. By incorporating automatic snapshots and images of instances and volume periodically, Skeddly provides a baseline from which users can create new instances. Resource tags are added to snapshots and images in order to aid with categorization and archiving.

Users are able to define their own security policies by building a custom Identity Access Management (IAM) policy and only providing Skeddly with the necessary permissions. In order to provide additional security, network connections in and out of the Skeddly network use HTTPS and SSL meaning data is encrypted between user and Skeddly as well as between Skeddly and AWS accounts.

  • Optimize costs by scheduling on/off times for your EC2 instances and running them for only part of the day. Adjust power when they are not needed, for example during the night.

  • Reduce waste with Skeddly’s automatic cleanup tool which deletes old images based on predefined criteria and age. The tool can also automatically clean up unused resources to save money.

  • Register as many AWS access keys and IAM roles as you want and assign actions to credentials. Control login access with the options of full access, read only access, billing only access and execute actions only access.

  • Create federated access using SAML from your existing Identity Providers so you can provision user accounts for team members without having to set up new Skeddly credentials

  • Skeddly includes over 70 different action types for AWS including creating EBS snapshots, rebooting RDS instances, starting WorkSpaces, modifying Amazon S3 objects and many more.
