Compared to MySQL both are very similar. Would slightly prefer MySQL server because it a little easier to manage.
Extensive documentation and excellent community support from other users. Very rarely have any issues.
I primarily use 'Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio' to manage databases locally and the software is lacking in some core features like data export which are handled much better through PhpMyAdmin. Could also benefit from some good online database editing tools which currently seem to be lacking.

Switching to MySQL has improved our overall database experience
The interface is easy to work with and can get you up and running fairly quickly.
Some functionality can't be turned off which leads to connection issues in our applications

I have been using SQL Server for the past 20 years or so, and it is one of the easiest and best for database purposes, and will always recommend it for middle order businesses.
The best about SQL Server is its ease of use, intuitive GUI, best support available from Microsoft and online support from community etc, which is lagging in for e.g. Oracle or MySQL.
Its quite expensive licensing options, per core based etc. compared MySQL and all.

Overall experience has been amazing. I believe all our .Net applications (Close to 50) use Microsoft SQL Server as the database.
It is undoubtedly one of the best database in the world and Microsoft has just given quite a lot of features to help query out data from this tool
The cost is something which is on the expensive. Alternative options is MySQL.

Its really fast and have more features as compare to MySql. good support.
what I really don't like about it, is it's a bit difficult as compare to MySql. Has some restrictions while fetching data using programming language like python

I used Microsoft SQL Server for my customers website to work with developer team, it is handy but it is quite expensive and hard to use if you don't understand SQL programming.
Microsoft SQL Serves has many feature inside, you can use if you are SQL developer but it might be hard to use if you are not developer, just an marketer.
Microsoft SQL Server is really expensive when you compare it with MongoDB or MySQL.

Security features that are built-in are top-notch. There is enough documentation to get started with on-prem installation on your own. Also, encryption is enabled by default and we do not need to handle it separately.
With the PHP ecosystem, it is more convenient to use MySQL. MS SQL Server integration can be way better here. Also, MySQL is free so SQL Server license pricing does not make sense for a lot of products.

Overall it is great for windows platform but a but expensive as compared to MySQL
It is a good RDBMS by microsoft it provide a good stability and has all the required features which are required for todays world
The least thing is if we go for a shared windows hosting plan of many different hosting provider they only gives 200MB of database storage which is very low as compared to MySQL which they give 1GB.

Overall I prefer it for developing apps for Windows, otherwise I'll go with MySQL or Postgres.
SQL Server is great if your app is developed in .NET (C# or VB) and you're ok with running Windows servers. It supports foreign keys, has a granular access rights system compatible with SQL standards, it is highly compatible with Visual Studio. It is easy to install in Windows, it is easy to configure. The SQL Management Studio is probably one of the best GUIs for managing databases.
It's expensive, both in terms of hardware requirements and in terms of licensing. While they support Linux it really only runs well on Windows. Other database services support many operating systems and have better hardware requirements, more server side script options and support more languages.

Microsoft SQL Server is a Relational Database Management System which helps us to organise data in a tabular format. It uses MySQL as a language to create database, tables, procedures, functions etc. Users can also retrieve the data from database. Basically, SQL server provides us Platform to perform all these functions.
Users must need training to use Microsoft SQL Server. Users should also have knowledge of MySQL language.

Overall for security stand point Microsoft SQL Server is really good especially if data compliance is concerned
Built-in functions which reduce the overall length of query make the development really quick
Some functions are missing as compared to MySql which if present could make the language even better

Not my first choice if it's about relational databases but i really like it's stability, scalability and gui for management. If you'r from Microsoft world it's definitively database that you should chose. Right now you can even run it od linux!
If your used to open source databases like postgresql or mysql pricing could be shocking at first.

Microsoft MySQL is great. I definitely suggest it to anyone seeking a robust and user-friendly database programme.
I recently tried Microsoft MySQL and was very impressed with its performance. Installing and configuring the software was simple. The documentation made it easy to start using the product. Microsoft MySQL was powerful and feature-rich. It offered everything I needed to set up a database quickly, and the assistance was great. Complex searches on massive datasets ran smoothly.
Microsoft MySQL is good, but some has disappointed me. The interface was slow and poorly documented. The information was dispersed and hard to find, so I had trouble answering my simple queries. Microsoft MySQL cost more than a generic database. Technical support was also poor. My questions were answered slowly and generically. It required time to explore and solve problems on my own.

- Far easier to use as compared to Oracle database. - Has better replication support as compared to MySQL or Oracle
- Very expensive - Some of the features are only available in Enterprise edition - Complex to learn as how SQL server works internally. - Every new version comes equipped with lots of changes, making upgrade process cumbersome.

Microsoft SQL server powers my company's applications perfectly. It's robust and capable of dealing with a heavy workload.
For smaller applications, you're better off going with MySQL which is free and will have a lot of the features.

sql server is a complete solution to store / persist data. It is complete and reliable and allows to focus on the application and not how the data have to be saved.
* it have a "sql express" edition that allows to use it free * (mem and cpu limits) * it allows to have a backend data service to retrieve information as you need it * It have Sql management studio that is a complete suite to make querys, stored procedures and create tables/stored procedures/views/etc
it is propietary, not like mysql or firebird that are open source,. It cost money if like the enterprise version

Reliable; relatively easy to administer; huge amount of paid and free books, videos, blogs, forums, third-party products available; actively being improved by Microsoft. Free Express edition for desktop and small server databases up to 10GB.
It can be pricey SQL Server often challenged to due to limitations of integration to 3rd party software like MySQL etc.

I've used SQL server since version 7, which is more than 20 years ago, and still use it every day (Although, not version 7!)
If you are using C# / .NET on a Windows server, then Microsoft SQL server is the natural choice. The free edition is fine to get started, and once you out grow it, you can afford the license fee (hopefully!)
It's very expensive, given that there are free alternatives like MySQL. CSV importing is a pain, when it doesn't need to be.

Not as robust and scalable as oracle and not free like MySQL. It has documentation, but again, it can be wordy from Microsoft.

Switching to MySQL from Microsoft SQL Server has been a great experience giving more reliability in our software package
It's easy to set up and get running without a lot of effort and runs relatively clean without a lot of system resources needed.
Some of the commands require a higher level of knowledge to work through than other products however these are typically not needed very often

A fully working relational database engine.
Offers everything you could normally want in an SQL environment. You are getting almost the same thing as Microsoft SQL Server, but for free, and works with a variety of open-source programming languages.
Sometimes the syntax is slightly different than that of Microsoft SQL Server (for example, we have to use NOW() instead of GETDATE()), but this is not really a huge obstacle.

I got out of being forced to use Microsoft SQL Server and I did it without having to pay for anything since it is open-source.
It is open-source so it is free to use. I liked how easy it was to install. Everything seemed pretty natural for someone who knew little about using SQL prior to installing MySQL. Seemed to have a lot of features for being a free solution.
Some of my coworkers did have some issues installing it on their workstations and I am not sure if it is available on many platforms besides Windows. Also, ran into a couple of very minor bugs in the process of using it (nothing that affected the real usability of the software though).

In a handful of our microservices application databases, we use MySQL. We picked MySQL because it is simple to use, has extensive documentation (both official and unofficial), has a big userbase, and is simple to maintain and install with little configuration. The final element is likely the most critical for us right now since we need something done soon to make our application available to the user.
It is simple to grasp. It is compatible with the majority of popular programming languages. It outperforms and is less expensive than other relational database services on the market.
In comparison to PostgreSQL or SQL Server, it lacks sophisticated functionalities. For big databases, it does not scale as well as PostgreSQL or SQL Server.

It's free! It's hard to say no to a free database platform.
It just feels sloppy and unpolished. After using Microsoft SQL Server for many years, it just feels difficult to use. The graphical tools are confusing to use.
