Since I have been using meltwater for the past two year my favorite feature is the X (Twitter) analytics dashboard that gives us an analysis of mentions with demographic data on age gender and RT QT and many more apart from that the buzz alerts where in if there is a surge in mention it notified us via mail and in tool

No media database is perfect in terms of either staying current with media members and/or as it relates to media monitoring.

It really helps to cover mentions around the social media related to the brand i am working on and the sentiment anlaysis

Can be expensive in terms of number of seats and/or tools used.

Meltwater is one of the top media databases for PR professionals

It got to a point where we asked our "client success manager" to please disable our instance of the platform so our team would stop receiving the useless alert emails that were filling up our inboxes.   Despite several emails, our CSM never replied to the emails or heeded our request to disable our account.

Social listening tools are great in principle, but you need a comprehensive understanding of boolean search parameters, and although we were offered support from our account manager, this didn't actually come about

I can't think of how many times our team would look at the "alert" emails and laugh at both the quality of the results followed by the obscureness of the websites it was pulling content from.  

Their reputation monitoring tool returned highly unrelated results from a majority of click-bait, AI-generated SEO websites.  

However, it appears that there was minimal, if any, implementation and launch support and/or validation from the Meltwater team that the monitoring results were what we were looking for.

There are  lot of analytics that can be done but a bit difficult to set up exactly as I wanted the data to present.

Meltwater has a fantastic knack for laying down the information gathered in a way that is simple to understand for anyone.

The algorithm for searching each client can be difficult at first but by call your representative, they will go through the best algorithm for your client so, you can find media coverage with ease.

However, when you have a team moving at a fast pace that needs a reliable tool, this doesn't quite meet the mark.

Thanks to its interface and content, it is very easy and functional, saving time and work. And one of the plus aspects is that it's free.

Months of back and forth and threats of legal action later and I still have to pay an obscene amount of money to no longer use these services.  

The integration of media database and monitoring was a plus.

They finally responded and said we had to participate in an exit interview before they would formally close our account.

The report dashboard isn't as intuitive as I would like.

The insights for social media platforms are useful

I can also add missing articles very easily to added content for each client on the board searches.

Although it is incomplete, it gives sufficient information.

The social listening component of this management platform is top notch, as it allowed for us to search out mentions of our company (good or bad) on social without having been specifically tagged.

A lot of the times our saved searches for PR tracking would bring in irrelevant publication results that we couldn't use as actual results. When it came to using the service as a contact database, a lot of the contact information we'd come across was out of date.

Overall our marketing communications team loves Meltwater.

The more options they add to the program the more expensive it becomes - there is a lot that I am unfamiliar with nor have the time or money to explore.

Meltwater is indispensable for any startup looking to gain insights into the PR side of marketing.

Meltwater has a clean dashboard/homepage and a pretty good customer service team, but there were more cons than there were pros in my experience with the software.
