It handles large projects well and offers plenty of options for customization. Once you know your way around it, it can be very efficient and precise.

Trados Studio is a very capable tool with strong translation memory and termbase management features.

The additional app that allows to manage and create termbases is of great help too.

It's quite beginner-friendly, although there are some courses available (for purchase on the website) to learn additional features more in depth.

I used to update to each new version (no longer wasting the money), hoping they would have taken care of some of the bugs. But they never do. And then there are new ones.

It has lots of options that allow you to do practically anything you want.

The possibility to handle almost all file formats you may come across while working as a translator, which allows you to use it for virtually any client and kind of project. Besides this, being the most popular software in the translation industry, it's essential if you want to work with agencies - so it's an investment that pays off.

In particular, it handles formatting better than any other CAT tool I have used (in the sense that it reproduces formatting accurately without inserting an excessive number of obtrusive tags into the test), including when using external MT engines.

The software is so stupid that it made itself so complicated to use.

You purchase a license and might think that's it - but no, two/three years later, you should upgrade because the support would run out.

It`s hard to combine all this into one tool and here are some thoughts for Trados (owned by the RWS group these days) to right the ship:

I expected much from the product as it is very popular. But the price is way too high and what it offers is not something we can`t find in other similar products.

I spend more time when translating using TRADOS than when I use Memsource.

Adding/fixing tags is totally unintuitive.

If TM is huge, it is necessary to have powerful PC.

The QA is so compley and cumbersome that it should be overhauled immediately.

This company is just so unbelievably dumb!

Another issue is that this CAT tool is not for beginners.

It can be a little overwhealming for begginer translators with so many features, but nowadays is almost mandatory that every translator learns how to use this software, at least on the free trial.

It has many likeable features which are updated frequently and work very well.

A translator might feel like a money-making machine for the company.

We're a translation company and our clients ask us to use this tool.

Even for power users with many years of use, this software never ceases to confuse.

The feature to create new glossaries from already translated documents is perfect and really useful.

Even if somebody never touches translation directly, it's important for them to know and understand how Trados works and how our software can integrate with it.

They made an investment in Trados Studio years or even decades ago and they are reluctant to change.

It might seem difficult to use at first, but it is a true powerhouse with so many features...

The software can be very powerful once you have learned to master it.

Trados is the quintessential professional software - it is not exactly elegant (or resource efficient), but it gets the job done better as well as or better than any other.

The sheer amount of file formats it can work with.

They also come out with new versions every two years, which you need to pay extra for.

It is very easy to understand and to use.

There's no Auto-save feature. If the software became unresponsive or PC suddenly went off for any reason, all work done will be erased and couldn't be recovered.

That would depend on what features they need and whether they could afford the high price tag.

The truth is I can get much more work done, but I also have to be extra careful when it comes to using specific terms in specific content. When you translate from English to Spanish there are way too many words in English that might have very different meanings in Spanish.
