Pros

Overall, this has been a very enjoyable experience and with the ease of how Akeneo is, our Business is now dependant on how powerful and quickly we can get to market.
Attribution features are excellent. A lot of opportunities for improvement within the Akeneo product, e.g. its business rules feature.
The offered support is freaking excellent, we got the answers needed during adoption in a very reasonable time, with a very comprehensive language.

Pros

I love how it has really improved our process of finding, adding and editing information related to our products. The system is very modern and intelligent in terms of quickly adding information.
Rep. is a stand-out representative and if you have the opportunity to work with her, you are lucky. Every single person we've met, from the developers to the President of inRiver's PIM, is top notch.
I like that it's creates a great tool to house all the product data that you need to bring your products to market. It's fairly easy to use and can be customization for the business that you run.

Cons

My biggest complaint is that we used an implementation partner; after going through the setup of our environment, it seemed to me that we could handle 90% of the tasks ourselves.
Our integration didn't go all that well, so our product families were never set up correctly which caused a lot of issues with our website. That is more of an internal problem though.
URL's cannot be displayed immediately as an image in the product unless you select the "Image" which is a bit difficult to process when exporting.

Cons

Other annoying thing is that the Fieldsets not read only are; if someone changes the Fieldset, data can be lost (unintentionally). Too bad, inRiver is not sharing its timeline of the roadmap.
We no longer have to enter information in multiple locations, which is both redundant and leaves room for error.
So all products are visible for all companies. The new content segmentation feature should solve this, but we are desperately waiting for it for months.

Using PIM the first week

Reviewed 5 years ago

Is easy to teach how to use. It has a pretty intuitive UI and you can export documents in many formats that make easier the compatibility with others softwares.

Pros

PIM has a great flexibility to improve your management tasks and save time making your job easyer. I love the capabilities that pim offers to the user to manage the information more efficiently. You can unify your products information in one only software that allows you manage all of it. You can also personalize almost any field in fact to your necessities.

Cons

That what i don't like from PIM is that the learning curve isn't that faster as i thought but with a couple of weeks of study you can handle it pretty good.

A Solid Choice for PIM

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

With experience in other enterprise PIM Systems, I can say with confidence that Akeneo's interface is easier to understand and more intuitive than other options on the market.

Cons

The onboarding process was a bit clunky, primarily attributed to our Integrating partner who did not fully understand the Akeneo process.

Best PIM I could found, but hard to understand well

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

It's free, it's modern, it's fast, clean. You can perceive it's well designed and programmed. It fulfills just PIM needs without unnecessary additional features. It has a free community edition you can use self-hosted.

Cons

It's hard to understand, you must study the guides. It doesn't have a free hosted version. You need a VPS to use it.

Title of my Review

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

Drag & Drop features as well as the ease of mass imports & exports for product information. We migrated from an outdated PIM where everything was inputted manually so this program has greatly sped up our internal processes.

Cons

Our integration didn't go all that well, so our product families were never set up correctly which caused a lot of issues with our website. That is more of an internal problem though. Be sure you find the correct external agency if you do not have the internal capabilities. We're paying for it dearly.

PXM made easy

Reviewed 2 years ago

Akeneo is helping us in delivering our journey of product information and recommendation at scale. The fact that our data model can evolve quickly with just configuration instead of developments and the facility of connection to third parties are key features of the app. Principle of assets, reference entities, channels and locales are working perfectly together to manage content completion and localization in a structured way.

Pros

It’s friendly user- interface. The easy switch between channels. The concept of assets and entities providing many possibilities to manage enriched content.

Cons

The 'Simultaneous Work' that is not yet arrived and some complexity in navigating through the history of modification. This based on using it in an international context at scale with many users and markets collaborating at the same time on the PIM.

Great fit for our needs

Reviewed 2 years ago

PIM as a source of truth with one/global space to store, update product information is what we were looking for. Managing product data is much easier and product information updates can be done much quicker thanks to linked channels.

Pros

Capacity to link to ERP, internal software. To host product information in organized way with insights to data quality score. Workflows and approval process based on role & permission set.

Cons

Changing/editing attributes after they have been created is kind of headache. As well "reference entity like" feature for set of attributes would make our jobs easier.

Akeneo, the Hercules to our product issues Hydra

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

The fit for purpose towards the required PIM, commercial and syndication capabilities we need to have. The fit for purpose towards target data model (product and equipment) architecture, edge cases, current PIM gaps & limitations. Akeneo is bringing all kind of out of the box capabilities, to ensure we have a fast to market approach with good and mature enough embedded product related MDM capabilities. The flexibility and scalability towards our roadmap and future vision. Akeneo was able to leverage & showcase the interaction in a very efficient matter and brought in multiple references that have exceeded our expectations showing a proven track record that meet our complex data model and or related business / commerce transformations.

Cons

No MDM capabilities, DAM capabilities were poor however since we are going for an integrated DAM solution, this is not an issue for us.

A game changer for your products

Reviewed 2 years ago

We historically managed product data from our ERP. This resulted in weak structures and complex processes who played well at older company stages, but did not at current scale. PIM adoption has been not just another third-party component on our platform, but the opportunity to unload the ERP from responsibilities that never had to be there, as well to sanitize a degraded product data.

Pros

Helped us on establishing a healthy product data with the proposed concepts and structures. The product enrichment process turned into a more friendly and meaningful task, valuating the work of involved people. The offered support is freaking excellent, we got the answers needed during adoption in a very reasonable time, with a very comprehensive language.

Cons

The assets management and translation processes offered out of the box did not cover our current range of necessities, so we opted for integration other tools to complete them all.

PIMPoint Was Exciting, but On Prem Feels Left Behind

Reviewed 6 years ago

InRiver has helped us very quickly create a rich eCommerce experience. But the On Prem version is very far behind Cloud at this point, and that's disappointing. We feel like forgotten step kids.

Pros

I like the all-in-one nature of inRiver. We use the PIM for all our text content and as a sort of pseudo DAM, and it works great for amalgamating and tracking resources.

Cons

The Print module is extremely unintuitive and I wish I had more control over the Work Area column in Enrich.

I like that it's creates a great tool to house all the product data that you need to bring your products to market. It's fairly easy to use and can be customization for the business that you run.

Cons

There is a steep learning curve to get a good understanding of the tools functionalities. Also, not being able to customize layouts can be a challenge. With this too, there isn't a great tool for external users of the system. The UI isn't as friendly as other competitors within the marketplace.

One source of truth

Reviewed 5 years ago

After getting "buy-in" from the entire organization (which can definitely take some time), the experience is wonderful. Rather than having multiple, differing copies of information scattered around the company in different departments, we now have ONE source of truth that is dependable and easy to retrieve. We can give everyone their own sign on and not worry that information will be changed by accident, as we have control through permissions. I also love the fact that it is able to work with the ERP system and every night it does an "auto load" into PIM of certain fields. That is yet another way to be sure everything is up to date and accurate.

Pros

What I like most about this software is that we could set it up to contain our specific information. We were able to create fieldsets that matched our catalog and kept the organizing easy. Now we just keep packing in more and more product information.

Cons

What I like least about the software is not having more control over it within our own organization and having to find a partner to do changes for us.

Vendor response

We appreciate your review Kimberly and happy that your experience with us as the One Source of Truth is wonderful.

Very flexible PIM-system which is fit for the future

Reviewed 5 years ago

The major benefit is the PIM-benefit: one source of truth. We connected our website, our media publisher, our webshops to it. And we are expanding. inRiver can manage it all.

Pros

Very flexible system: you are able to fit any assortment into inRiver. Because it is relation based, you can link anything to eachother. Implementation is easy and intuitive: what you see is what you get. Changes are made quickly by Product Management, the maintenance of products is also intuitive.

Cons

I miss some way of overview of the assortment. How is everything connected to eachother? You cannot "see" it, you only experience it by clicking around. Scoping within the system is not very easy to do. We work with different companies within one license. There is (today) no way to segment the products per division. So all products are visible for all companies. The new content segmentation feature should solve this, but we are desperately waiting for it for months. Other annoying thing is that the Fieldsets not read only are; if someone changes the Fieldset, data can be lost (unintentionally). Too bad, inRiver is not sharing its timeline of the roadmap. It is a guess when what will be released.

Vendor response

We appreciate your review Froukje and delighted to be your fit-for-future PIM partner.

All in one product management

Reviewed 4 years ago

We went something that allowed more flexibility and was better fit for the large amount of data we have. Good for small datasets and simpler product structures. Would actually be a great option for a startup. Beneficial for workflow management as well

Pros

This is an all in one solution, though we experinented with it largely as a PIM. It is not the software we ended up going forward with but I still think it is a great solution

Cons

We only considered the PIM capabilities because we weren't as impressed with the DAM organization functions. And really the PIM was only so good because considering our large datasets, it would be difficult to manage. Also, We would have limited control and needed to contact them for every update or change

Vendor response

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We're disappointed inRiver was not the right fit for your organization, but we appreciated the opportunity to talk about your needs. inRiver is truly the only enterprise-level PIM that includes syndication. Your assessment in our DAM capabilities are absolutely correct. The inRiver platform is more built for organizations looking to consolidate data sets out of the DAM and optimize their configuration for the benefits of suppliers, distributors, retailers, and online marketplaces. And we're pleased to say we've also made vast improvements in recent months in our ability to import and export large amounts of data for global organizations. We wish you luck with your selected solution and hope to have the opportunity to stay connected.

Reviewed 5 years ago

Overall, this system will be very beneficial to our workflows. It is much easier to access product information and have everything current and in one place. We no longer have to enter information in multiple locations, which is both redundant and leaves room for error.

Pros

Cons

The only thing that's a little difficult to figure out is the "queries" for searching.

inRiver PIM... Our single source of truth.

Reviewed 6 years ago

Nothing short of awesome, in every capacity. Our relationship with the entire inRiver team only began with the sale of the PIM. They have been there for us every time we've needed business questions or technical development questions answered. They've become friends along this journey. Rep. is a stand-out representative and if you have the opportunity to work with her, you are lucky! Every single person we've met, from the developers to the President of inRiver's PIM, is top notch. No question, we made the right choice...

Pros

From our user's perspective, who are accustomed to working with spreadsheets, inRiver's ability to download product/item related data into a spreadsheet, allow users to modify their data, and then ingest the spreadsheet, updating the PIM. From the technical side, as business evolves and critical information needs to be captured, you can easily add additional data and use it as needed.

Cons

That's a tough one... I'll let you know when I come up with something!
