What is Pencil2D?
Pencil2D is a free and open-source software (FOSS) designed to help businesses create two-dimensional animations using bitmap images and vector graphics. The application enables graphic designers to import images, upload and save files, add layers, and add, remove, or duplicate key frames on a unified platform.
Pencil2D provides various tools such as fill, blur, or erase to add custom colors, create drawings and change the canvas size as per requirements. Designers can use the onion skinning functionality to view previous or next frames at once, create animated cartoons, and edit videos. Professionals can preconfigure settings in the preferences module to simultaneously view multiple drawings and set up their transparency level.
Pencil2D lets visual designers manage raster and vector workflows, automate tasks using customizable shortcuts, and export movies via command line. The platform allows users to enable or disable the sound layer, adjust width and height of the tool panel, and automate extension of timeline at the end of animation.
