Jira is my favorite project management tool I’ve used (trello, zenhub,  pivotal tracker),  it has great features for running projects in agile and it also provides great reporting capabilities

Jira - Agile, Scrum and Beyond

There's only one situation where I think Jira is a good choice - you're working in a large corporate where task / project management requires highly controlled workflow management and process control, in a waterfall methodology. In any other situation, I'd choose any number of other solutions such as Pivotal Tracker, meister task, trello, Asana.

JIRA is a very robust tool with a steep learning curve.  We have individuals on our team that could pick it up fairly easily, but others that would need extensive training.  So it's not the solution for us.

This is preferable to merely listing what you are working on in a dev environment, though it's not as in-depth as jira.

From  a developer standpoint, it's straightforward.

We had to shift to a more configurable solution like Jira after few months but overall the product is good for teams who don't know much about project management.
