GibbsCAM overview

What is GibbsCAM?

GibbsCAM is a computer aided manufacturing software solution designed to program CNC machine tools across a spectrum of metal cutting operations. The platform delivers comprehensive capabilities for lathes, milling centres and turn mill centres with sliding headstock lathes. The modular structure of the software accommodates simple two axis milling through advanced five axis machining within a single interface. GibbsCAM serves the aerospace, automotive, medical, energy, consumer products and general manufacturing industries where complex geometries and medium to high production volumes are present.

The software comprises dedicated modules for GO Milling, GO Turning, GO MTM, GO Swiss, GO five axis machining and GO wire EDM. The milling module generates optimized toolpaths with high speed machining strategies. The turning module supports lathe operations with feature oriented programming. The multi task machining module supports multiple spindles and turrets with any axis orientation. The Swiss style module addresses sliding headstock lathe programming and the five axis module enables simultaneous multi axis control for complex contours. The wire EDM module automates the creation of electrical discharge machining instructions.

GibbsCAM incorporates feature recognition technology to identify part features from CAD models and updates toolpaths when model revisions occur. The system simulates toolpaths and machine dynamics to detect collisions and validate machining sequences. The VoluMill engine removes material efficiently with adaptive strategies and the multi part machining function programs several components in a single setup. The platform integrates with all major CAD file formats including models from SOLIDWORKS and Autodesk Inventor. The library of more than ten thousand postprocessors generates precise G Code and can be customised for specific machine controllers.

Integration extends to tool management systems and to automated programming workflows with production monitoring. Vericut Optimiser and performance tools enable cycle time and process refinement. An open application programming interface allows bespoke integrations and postprocessor development to meet specialised manufacturing requirements. Professional support services include online and on site training, implementation consulting and postprocessor development assistance.
